Dar Hi is an exceptional building located on an exceptional site overlooking a courbeil/valley of palm trees and the small town of Nefta. It is a stark architectural proposition that aims to redefine a hotel stay as contributing to and reflecting community life. Whether it succeeds in doing so is difficult to establish. We were the only guests in the hotel. It is however a great ambition. The staff was very welcoming and kind. The breakfast buffet was wonderful with fresh fruit, pancakes, cheese, eggs etc. The evening dinner simple, fresh and tasteful.
It was the beginning of December and the temperature was a bit too cold to use the outside pool. The communal spaces have exceptional views and so have the rooms. My husband very much liked reading while lying on a lounge bed overlooking the courbeil. We both liked sitting in front of the open fire in the communal area. the bed was comfortable and the shower great. We think it is great for small group stays while exploring the region.
Would we have come here if we had not been recommended the place by friends, I am not sure. We walked through the courbeil and felt that it was rather badly taken care off. This is not a responsibility of Dar Hi, but it shows that the overall ambition to contribute to the community may not be met with equal enthusiasm. We were not sure what the attractions in the region were, but then we were not there to go on any of the desert trips and just took a few walks through the town. But for those interested in architecture this is definitely a treat.

One of the nicest and most interesting hotels that I had a pleasure to visit. I loved the architecture and design of every part - from rooms and furniture to pool and hammam. The staff was very friendly and helpful with everything. The views are breathtaking. The music choice amazing. Would love to come back again.
The only thing I would improve would be the food. Breakfasts were good, but dinners totally not worth the money. Getting a bit of dry couscous and a couple of pieces of grilled vegetables and a plain banana for dessert for 16€ is quite a joke looking at other places in Tunisia, where you can get amazing food for less than half of this price. The other night we got pieces of fish, which was literally the worst that I had - unedible for humans, only cats seemed to be happy. Taking into account how great this place is, it’s really a shame to serve such a bad quality food.

Dar Hi was a huge surprise. I haven't seen many places like this and the architect of the hotel deserves a big award. Incredible views of the city, gorgeous interior, really excellent cuisine and all this complemented by a really attentive staff. The icing on the cake is the hammam and heated pool. I regret that we could not stay more than one night.
Don't be put off by a slightly more complicated arrival - finding a hotel is a bit of an adventure. But that just adds to the experience.

Central location for the movie filming locations that we wanted to see. The staff was very attentive to our needs and the food was excellent.
Finding the front entrance was a little challenging since it was down a narrow street.

Amazing facilities, unparalleled views/ architecture, staff are incredibly welcoming and warm.
I think there is great room for improvement in terms of food offering. The culinary culture of the region is super rich and that is unfortunately not fully reflected on the breakfast/ dinner menus.
During our stay, only one type of rosé/ red wine and local beer were available to drink.
The other potential improvement is the pool. Although I understand that the water cannot be changed/ filtered as frequently since it’s a natural spring, I still think the pool floor should still be cleaned from algae. It was a bit gross/ slippery.

The hamam was not as hot as it should be.

The view was stunning. Dinner was good.
Be careful with the drinks prices, "apparently" they don't have a menu with the price list so they charge whatever they want. I had a bad experience because I was told one price at the beginning, and at the end of my stay I was charged double. The receptionist just said he forgot the prices. The room had an awesome view but unfortunately, the windows were so dirty. In my opinion is not worth the money.

This really is an oasis of calm in a real oasis!
I was pleasantly surprised that our room was ensuite even though booking.com stated it was a shared bathroom.
We had one of the high rooms. There are also lower rooms in a berber troglodyte style.
Our room had a very comfy bed, 2 sinks a separate toilet a huge walk in shower with 2 shower heads. The towels were big and fluffy. Pool towels were also provided for the natural pool which we unfortunately didn't have time to try out. We had robes in our room which are suitable for petite people not us lol.
We were welcomed with fresh sweet lemon juice and kept supplied with plenty of bottled water. The evening meal was plentiful and delicious.
Breakfast was self service and good. The coffee was the best we had in Tunisia.
In addition to the bed our room had a large raised bed/sofa area with huge windows overlooking the oasis town.
During our stay we went on a 4x4 tour through the desert to various filming locations from the likes of star wars and the English Patient. Although we booked this separately I'm sure the staff here can help you arrange that.
The communal areas of the hotel are beautifully designed and very relaxing.
There wasn't anything I didn't like

Lovely breakfast, lunch and dinner, great very helpful staff, very relaxed vibe all around, and amazing views over Nefta and the desert. Also surprised about the hammam facilities in the middle of the desert!
Very big and hard pillow which gave me a sore neck, and the bed was very low, hard to get out of. Also the AC was not working properly, even when it was cool outside the room itself remained warm and stuffy.

Wonderful, inspiring design of the hotel- rooms.and communal areas. Great view. Great pool.
No kettle in room.and limited beverages/no snacks available during the day.despite what we were lead to believe at check in. Breakfast adequate but expected more at the room.rate price. No lunch offered at hotel.which is a shame as its a great place to hang out all day (and seems to be designed for such) but I'm.not sure what they expect you to do for food?
