After using booking.com for over a decade, I would like to share my first negative feedback on my recent experience at Lealea hotel in Taiwan. My family and I have always appreciated Taiwan for its warm and welcoming people, as well as its delectable cuisine. This was our fourth hotel stay in Taiwan, and we arrived at Lealea hotel around noon. Upon arrival, I politely approached the front counter and explained that due to an early morning activity to watch the sunrise at Alishan, we had very little sleep. I kindly requested if it would be possible to check-in a bit earlier so that we could rest before continuing with our day. Unfortunately, I was informed that the standard check-in time is at 3 pm, and the rooms would only be available after thorough cleaning following the departure of the previous guests at 11 am. Despite the situation, no alternative solution was provided. Following the check-in process and payment for the hotel stay, we were unable to access our rooms as the fumigation was scheduled for that day. Consequently, my aunties, mom, and uncle faced difficulties in breathing and had to leave the premises. Eventually, after overcoming these challenges, we checked into room 706, which was advertised as having a lake view. However, we noticed that approximately 35% of the so-called lake view was obstructed by nearby buildings. Furthermore, even though the hotel claimed to have cleaned the room between 11 am and 2/3 pm, we discovered mold in the bathroom and the air vent was filled with dust (photos of the room are attached). The free one hour bike ride per person was also unavailable to us during our stay. To be fair, in other hotels worldwide with available capacity, we have been treated with greater flexibility regarding early check-ins. Had the front desk displayed a similar level of understanding, this negative review on booking.com and Google would have been unnecessary.

Location was really good - short walk to all that Itathao had to offer and easy to get to on the tourist boat -most people are doing sightseeing trips but some do take suitcases on board, note that you have to stay on the boat from Shuishe as Itathao is the second stop. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and included scrambled eggs which was a huge plus for me! I enjoyed the short walk up the road to breakfast, pleasant way to start the day

The location was perfect. Super easy walking to night market and the dock. They were very nice to hold our bags for us. Breakfast was great.

Honestly everything was good.

We arrived early and the room was not ready yet. We leave our luggages at the lobby and went for a boat ride to explore sun moon Lake. When we came back to the hotel, the room is ready and our luggages had been sent to the room (very happy with this service). Our room is on the 7th floor which is the highest floor. We booked Lake view room and the view from the room balcony is amazing. Room is clean and has all the basic necessity. Please note that the hotel is not directly in front of the lake, there is a shorter building in front and if your room is on lower floor, the lake view will be partially blocked by the building. Breakfast is served at the nearby hotel (richforest Hotel). Decent enough spread and quite typical of hotel breakfast in Taiwan (mostly local fares). There are other facilities at richforest Hotel that you can make use of but we did not try any so no comment on that. Excellent location with plenty of eateries + night Market nearby. Most shops started to close up around 7pm on weekdays. The Sun Moon lake ropeway that can take you to Formosa aboriginal village is 10 mins walk away. The hotel provide free coupon for bike rental but we did not make use of it since everything we need is within walking distance. We are very happy with this hotel and will consider staying here again when we visit Sun Moon Lake.

The lake view is partially blocked by the building in front. Our room is nearest to the lift and we can hear people talking when they passed by the room. The room can get cold if you leave the balcony door open and there is no heater in the room.

Bed clean and comfortable. Aircon strong. Breakfast good. Good service. Near eating place and sea.
