The Gardener's Cottage sits on a gorgeous 1000-acre estate. It seems that the owners may still be in the renovation stage. The kitchen, bedrooms, and one large bathroom looked brand new. The small upstairs bathroom needs an upgrade. That being said, it was spacious and comfortable for our family group of 5 adults and two grandsons (10 and 12). The setting was more isolated than we had imagined. You had to drive to go to town. But the grounds were conducive to long walks, beautiful scenery, vast open spaces for the grandsons to play soccer when we needed them to expend some of their energy. We would absolutely stay there again. Roderick, the owner of the property, was welcoming and gracious, even when our grandson locked himself in the bathroom and we had to call Roderick for help one evening.

We have no complaints except that in other self-catering places that we have stayed there were a few more amenities. We needed to buy extra toilet paper, paper towels. and extra dishwashing soap. There was one bath towel for each of us; a few extras would have been nice.

Fantastic old cottage oozing with character. The owner Roderick was very friendly and greeted us at the main house on arrival and showed us to and around the cottage. The cottage is located on a large historic estate with interesting walks and a Templar Castle from the 12th Century, all of which we were able to explore during our stay. It is a very relaxing cottage to stay at and makes a perfect base to explore the surroundings. Sligo town is just a 20 minute drive away and Ballymote is just a short drive away to get any provisions.

The laneway up to cottage wasn't fit for cars to drive on - one of the double rooms had mould on the wall - the pictures on booking.com are old cause cottage doesn't look the same I.e. nice & neat

The family enjoyed coming back to the cottage after our days out and sitting in the living room being heated by the log fire as it is a novelty to us. When I asked for more logs for burning Roderick was only too happy to give us more to use. Temple House is a wonderful place to visit where you can go for long walks and walk around the old ruin castle. It was great that we were a load to use the boats on the lake which we have happy memories of.

Needs new kitchen windows fitted, as when we had a very heavy rain fall there would be some rain leak into the kitchen surface through the window frame which did wet some of our food we had sitting on the surface.

Gorgeous surroundings: fields of lush green, rowing on the lake, playing with Echo the dog. Lovely sunny aspect to the kitchen in the cottage. It was great to be able to sit out on the grass, cuppa in hand.

Small things really - bottle opener didn't work, shower nozzle in top-floor bathroom didn't move.
