We had an amazing vacation staying here! The house is beautiful and had everything we needed for a great stay. We spent a lot of time in the yard, laying in the hammock and taking in the breathtaking views of the ocean. We spent a few days at the beach and the owner also had everything we needed including chairs, umbrella,cooler, sand toys, and body board! This truly was a dream vacation!

What a great stay! Our family (incl 2 teens) vacationed at the home for 10 days. The photos don't do it justice. You can't really appreciate the location until you are actually there. It's amazing. Truly tropical paradise.
Arrival was easy. Driveway comes up quick, so we drove right past and had to make a u-turn, but after the first time, we knew to anticipate it. Home was clean, well-stocked, as described in the listing. The view from giant picture windows was fantastic. Beds were a little soft for my liking, but my family thought they were just fine. We had everything we needed at the home- beach towels, boogie board, SUP, etc.
My husband and I loved the location, away from the chaos and people of the downtown area. Yet downtown was only 30 minutes away, which my teens really liked. We went downtown to shop and meet up with friends. Even closer to the home was Hawaii Kai and Waimanalo town. We went there to eat and shop for basics. Did DoorDash a couple of times, and it was not a problem.
The beach right outside the home is a combination of sand and rock. You can sit in the water, but I wasn't comfortable going in deeper. Down the beach to the left, a short walk away, is the Magnum PI/Obama beach with sea barrier to create a lagoon-like swimming area. Further down is Waimanalo Beach, but we didn't go that far. The lagoon was wonderful to swim and just stand around in. Not crowded.
I would highly recommend this home and would stay here again. We had a couple of small hiccups, but the owner was super responsive super fast, so the issues were resolved very quickly.

Amazing!!
We recently stayed here with our two children as well as my parents and we all loved it! The house was very clean and very well stocked with things for us to use which was a big plus. We did a lot of snorkeling which was nice to just be able to jump in the water right at the house. We are already trying to plan our next trip that we can come back to this amazing house!

So relaxing!
This property is beautiful! We wanted to stay away from the hustle of Honolulu and this location was perfect. Very quiet and peaceful and we were able to drive about 20 minutes to Kailua for restuarants, shopping, etc. I loved always being able to hear the ocean waves rolling in. We reached out with a question after check in and received a quick response. The beach in front of the property was very nice and I snorkeled out along the pier and saw some fish. Great stay!

Finally a real vacation!
What a wonderful getaway! Waking up hearing the sounds and smell of the ocean, being able to walk right out to the beach, going for an outrigger ride with Mike, going on nearby hikes, eating local food and staying in more of a real Hawaiian home are what made this experience special and hard to come by on Oahu. Best Rental property on island!
This place is unbeatable! Best in the island! Super clean, comfortable, and ON the beach! Beach is super mellow! Perfect for little kids! The owner Mike lives next door. Super friendly local guy! Even gave us a ride on his boat! Trust me when I tell you if you’re coming to Oahu this is the spot/area you’ll want to be in! They don’t have the two twin beds pictured but they ARE in the living room up against two giants windows giving you top notch views during your stay!

A magical spot!
Our stay at Makapu'u Hale was beyond our expectations. The ocean practically comes right up to your feet as you relax on the porch, hammock or in the hot tub. The wave sounds lull you to sleep every night. And easy beach/water access is available right on the same property (not to mention the pier that is so refreshing to walk out on and enjoy the ever changing sea views). Great snorkeling right from your own beach is an amazing benefit that we didn't realize we'd use so much!
The house setup with renovated kitchen & main bath, is fantastic and quiet high-quality air conditioning is much appreciated on those nights when the temp or humidity calls for it. Beds were very comfortable and TV, Wifi, etc. all worked great. We worked remotely from this beautiful spot many days during the 2020 pandemic quarantine period. The entrance is a driveway immediately off the main road, which is great to get anywhere you need to go. You might go by it and have to turn around the first time, but it's easy once you have some visual landmarks figured out. A new driveway has been added in the past year or two, which is not currently shown on Google satellite. This makes entry/egress even more convenient than in the past, and some of the old comments about figuring out where to park are now outdated. The location is about the same driving distance from Hawaii Kai and Kailua, so all of the amenities in either of those spots are readily available, with Honolulu not much further of course.
Kalama & Mike were tremendous hosts. Immediately helpful whenever we had a question, but not intrusive in the slightest.
If you're comparing this property to any other property that's NOT on the water (assuming the size fits your needs), don't hesitate and just book it. If comparing this property to other oceanfront, it's a terrific choice. If you love swimming & snorkeling, it probably beats most other locations for ease of access. There is plenty of beach to sit out on (& chairs provided), but not an expansive deep beach area if that makes a difference to you. Beachfront quietness & privacy is likely superior here to most spots in Lanikai or Kailua due to there not being any public access spots very close by.
As you can tell, Makapu'u Hale is an amazing choice for your stay!

A little Slice of Heaven
Our family stayed here for a week and we are in awe. Getting up each morning with a cup of coffee (coffee was already in the home) and sitting on the deck watching the sun rise and listening to the ocean..... Access to the beach is private, you will only see people that are just walking up and down the beach which was not often. House had everything you needed for the beach, chairs, towels, body boards and all the snorkel gear. The owner is a couple houses down and has a boat that he likes to go out on when he can, if you are joining him a tip is a very nice jester. The boat rides were some of our highlights of the stay, just indescribable, what a magical place to stay. Thank you for everything

Great house for my family
The house was great. It is a little difficult to find since the directions are different that what’s there. We drive right past it 3 times since red markers on the check in instructions weren’t there. However the house is great. The property itself is wonderful. I enjoyed coffee on the private pier each morning.
The location of the property doesn’t seem to be the best. A homeless encampment is across the road and another is down the road about a mile or two.
Overall we would stay there again.

Little Slice of Heaven
Wife and I stayed here for the 1st 4 days of our trip before the rest of the family flew in. If your looking for a simple quiet place to stay this is it. View, sunrise, hot tub, swing and hammock were all amazing. Only recommendation to the owner would be a new set of fry pans, the teflon Is pealing off. We certainly would stay here again.

AMAZING
This property is so beautiful. Right on the ocean, watched a beautiful sunset every morning from the pier. Had a little confusion on parking upon arrival but was able to talk to someone right away to help us figure it out. Great kitchen had all the immensities we needed. Bathrooms were awesome. My favorite part was eating breakfast on the open patio every morning. Would highly recommend.

Can’t find a better place
This place was magical. We are in Hawaii for two weeks but only stayed here for a couple of nights. I would have been happy spending the entire two weeks here. I can’t believe this place even exists. Might seem pricey at first but it’s actually an amazing value for what you get. I will always pine to return!

Amazing
I could write such a long review about how much fun we had here but I will keep it short for you all reading this. You can not go wrong with renting this property. It has everything that Hawaii is suppose to be about. Waking up to sunrise over the beautiful ocean and Rabbit Island. Having morning coffee on the pier. Easy access everywhere. Country Hawaii living. Beauty beyond belief. Even the friendliness of the neighbors and local fisherman.

Beautiful home and relaxing location. LOVED this place!
The home is just as shown. Expansive views and great amenities. The small beach with a short stair access was perfect for a private swim. Hot outdoor shower and hot tub round out the experience. Owner Mike was around in one of the other houses, but not intrusive. Instructions to the property were very accurate. The only criticism I might have is that the front door code and lockset are a bit fiddly. Also, the door lock does not automatically lock when closed.

Being right on the water so close to snorkeling was a dream. Hot tub was perfect and crystal clean. Beds were comfy. The house and kitchen were spotless and had everything you could need. The location couldn't have been more perfect. We can't wait to return.

Staycation
Initially I had a different image of what the layout of the property/house looked like but when I got there it was more then what I expected! Beachfront was just awesome and the house was just as good if not better then the view! Very spacious but yet simple home with a lot of room which makes it great for a family or some friends looking to just get away for the weekend! My kids loved the jacuzzi and the fact that they could see all the fishes and turtles from the pier! Couldn't have picked a better place for our little getaway! Will definitely be coming back!

Wonderful Family Vacation at Waimanalo Beach
Our family had an absolutely wonderful stay! We took advantage of Mike's willingness to take us out on his sailing canoe on the most perfect of days. We split our week between here and Waikiki, and this by far, was the better part of our first trip to Hawaii. The view, the secluded feeling, and the snorkeling, right in front of the house, were the highlights. Easy access to some great beaches, places to see, hiking, and the Luau at Sea Life Park was so nice. My only negative feedback is that a couple of beach chairs were in need of replacement. Thank you!

Extraordinary and Beautiful
Makapu'u Hale is a secret garden perched over a gentle, turqupise slice of the Pacific Ocean. Surrounded by a beautifully maintained garden, the house is cozy and immaculate. The outdoor living room is a gorgeous backdrop for meals and relaxing. Makapu'u Hale was the perfect spot for our family vacation and we would love to return. Mahalo!!

This home is absolutely beautiful!
My Ohana loved this home! It was perfect for our family staycation. It had everything we needed from things as simple as dish soap to things as extravagant as a washer and dryer. The outside amenities are such a bonus...swinging bench, hammock, hot tub & table for the evenings outside together eating dinner. Truly a blessing and we surely didn’t want to leave!

This home is adorable and possibly the cleanest and most organized vacation rental we have ever stayed. Agree with other reviewers that the kitchen is well-stocked and the appliances were also very nice. We found the beds to all be comfortable. The back room did suffer at times from road noise; however, the front room enjoyed the lovely rhythms of the ocean. The A/C worked well for all spaces in the home which was important to one of the members in our party.
Our time outdoors at this home was the absolute best... we were able to access the water and enjoy use of the water toys we found in the homes outdoor storage. We even spotted a turtle while snorkeling to the right of the pier! A short walk from the home toward the left, we found Pahonu Pond... (check google earth)... you feel like you are in a huge swimming pool and the historical aspect is interesting. We also learned while there from other tourists that this location was used in filming Magnum PI!
Home configuration notes that may or may not matter to your party: The larger (king) bedroom with gorgeous ocean views does not have an attached bathroom... this room will use the huge and gorgeously updated bathroom (double vanity) across the living/dining space and likely shared with anyone sleeping on the living room day beds. The smaller, darker (also king) room in the back does have a much smaller attached bathroom (single vanity), but the toilet is separate from the sink and shower/tub and shares space with the washer and dryer. The sink and tub/shower space has a door for privacy; however the toilet/washer/dryer space has only a heavy curtain for privacy from the bedroom.
For our group of my husband and I, our young son, and my mother, the space worked well. We thoroughly enjoyed the location and the meticulous care of the home, and we appreciated the help and sincerity we got from both Laycie and Mike when we needed help! Many thanks!

We loved our stay! Everything was perfect and spotlessly clean.
Our favorite parts were hanging on the lanai reading books, sitting in the hot tub, seeing stars with little light pollution, the friendly wildlife (geckos!).
The location is perfect. And the drive to the house is probably one of the most spectacular views I have ever seen.

I can honestly say with zero doubt in my mind that I picked the perfect place to stay in Oahu. I narrowed it down to a house on the North Shore and one just south of the Polynesian Cultural Center. I am so glad I picked this one. It has everything, including location, location, location!
The view was stunning. The water was gorgeous with great snorkeling. The house was the perfect size for our group of 4. The location provides easy access to all over the island. Great restaurants are within 6 miles in either direction.
I already sent the house web link to several friends who are considering a trip to Oahu.
If we ever return, this is where we will stay.

This house is right on the water. Perfect for morning coffee, BBQ and sleeping with the sound of the ocean surrounding you. The kitchen is roomy, somewhat spartan supplies. Nice bathrooms. Air conditioning helps with sleeping at night. There are three rentals in this compound. The wedding group in the big house was loud a couple nights, so many people staying there...18 at my count. But they were nice and left during the day most days. Owner, Mike, is an expert sailor and took everyone but me (I blew out my knee the second day) out on his Polynesian designed catamaran ...Rabbit Island and surfing the waves. So great...so nice to provide this for us. Note on the knee, Castle Medical is fabulous just up the road 15 minutes. Waimanalo is great, a little gathering on the highway, country feel, mostly away from the crowds of Honolulu and Hawaii Kai. Nice to have access to all services, while staying in 'the country'. There was more contact with the owner than we are used to. But he is interesting, and that catamaran was fabulous, even meeting a famous artist he brought along for the sail.

The home was beyond expectations. The home was clean, nicely appointed and equipped with the basic tools needed to prepare meals.
We especially enjoyed the home for it's outdoor seating overlooking the ocean. The views were awesome! The location was very peaceful and provided us a place to look forward to return to after a day of sight seeing.

We couldn't have had a more spectacular time in Oahu at this lovely beach house. Everything about check-in went very smoothly. Our kids played for hours on the tree house and swing overlooking the ocean. Enjoying a glass of wine on the swing after a day of sightseeing around the island was another highlight. The kitchen and bathrooms have recently been redone and are very nice. The kitchen is well appointed and had every utensil we needed for cooking our own meals while there. One bathroom has a very new washer/dryer set that we put to good use! The outdoor shower was also wonderful for washing off after time on the private beach. The location of the beach house great too - very close to Kailua/Lanikai, an easy drive into Honolulu, just down the street from the walking trail up the peak to Makapu'u lighthouse. My family wanted to stay here forever. Mahalo to Laycie and Mike for everything!

This property was a dream come true!!! The view is amazing and the house comes with everything you will need!! Laycie was awesome and answered all my questions quickly. It is very close to many scenic landmarks and yet when you are there it feels like you are at an exclusive getaway!! Loved it!!!!!

My husband and I booked this property as it was close to our wedding location down the road. The location was absolutely perfect and the property was directly on the water with million dollar views!
The home is a 1960s plantation bungalow style and there are several homes on this property close to one another. This particular home was the furthest home from the drive and had beautiful red ginger landscaping that added privacy to the front of the home. The kitchen is decked out with all the modern amenities and we spent every meal out on the patio. There is a hot tub on the porch which has views to the ocean as well as a hammock. The owner's pier was a nice place to go out and see the sunrise each morning as well and there's a mini sand beach. Views from both inside and outside the home were breathtaking. The home has two full bathrooms that have both been modernized, which was an added plus. The property manager offered great communication all through the process and answered questions promptly via e-mail after our arrival.

Wonderful place to stay, great access to all the amenities of home, and plenty of extra luxuries that make the Makapuu Villa a dream vacation. Many things we knew to expect from the booking, such as the hammock, the fully stocked kitchen and the barbeque. The pleasant surprises were the closet full of water toys, the outdoor Jacuzzi, the rice cooker, and a straight up view from our yard to steep mountain peaks. Priced similar to some of the major hotels on Waikiki, I'd pick this vacation home over a luxury hotel without question.
