We loved staying at Elk Valley Ranch. Such a beautiful and comfortable place. Well appointed, private, and relaxing. The views are lovely, and we enjoyed sitting in the gazebo each evening watching the stars come out. About 15-20 min to Capital Reef NP.

We loved our stay! The kids rotated who slept on the couch, so that wasn’t much of an issue. Pickleball in such a beautiful setting made sleeping on the couch worth it!
Make sure to double check the address with the owner. VRBO had the wrong address, so we had to contact the owner in order to find the house. Tim responded quickly and helped us find our way.
Most of the roads, including the scenic drive, in Capitol Reef were closed. This made exploration challenging. We chose to do one short hike in the park, Hickman Bridge, and spend the majority of our time in Fishlake National Forest. Our whole family loved canyoneering with Capitol Reef Adventure Company!
If you need more than a few basic groceries, it’s worth the drive into Loa to a main grocery store. Chuck Wagon General Store was great for a few quick items and boxed lunches to take for a full day hiking.
We’d love to visit the area again when more of the park is accessible and wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Elk Ranch again.

We all loved this property! Tim and his wife were very responsive when we contacted them with questions prior to our arrival.
Comfortable and stocked with everything we needed.
We all loved watching the Mule deer herd prancing by the front yard on both of the mornings. There were at least 30 of them…
We all would highly recommend staying.

The property is in a great location as it is in remote location which we like but close enough to the Capitol Reef Visitor Center. The only issue we had was the property had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. The host responded to us immediately when we informed him of the issue and came right over to take care of getting the property cleaned. We went into the park while the house was being cleaned. Due to the quick cleaning that was done the property was not as clean as we would have liked it to have been. We liked everything about the property and had a good stay.

We had a very enjoyable stay at this large, private, well appointed home in a beautiful bucolic setting. It was wonderful to have a comfortable bed, shower and kitchen as an alternative to car/tent camping. The location provides access to Capitol Reef NP, Escalante NM, Dixie NF with varied and innumerable hikes.
We look forward to returning in the future to continue exploring the area.

Definitely one of the top couple of VRBOs we have stayed in. I can't think of enough positive words. It's spotless - it's large - perhaps 12' ceilings. Filled with European style furniture that given it an Old World flavor. The three piece sectionals cushions must be three feet across - so comfortable. If you love nature and peaceful surroundings its on a ranch and you can see cattle in the field across the entry road. For stargazers - clear nights are incredible. Beds are so comfortable. The owners encourage you to walk around the ranch and enjoy...and its only about 20 minutes from the Capitol Reef Visitors Center. Really hated to leave. Its a 5+.

This place was in a ver remote place but the directions provided by the owner was perfect. The place was clean and very peaceful. We had a great stay.

This is a wonderful property. The decoration is first class, and the property is setup very well for a comfortable and relaxing stay. the night sky is incredible.
We had an issue of locating the ranch, as it is well off the beaten path. Apple maps only gets you in the ballpark. We finally (after several unanswered calls) got a hold of Tim who led us into the property.
Overall, a lovely place to stay.

We loved the gorgeous, peaceful, pastoral location that was close to Capitol Reef. Playing pickleball with the sounds of cows lowing in the background was unique and special. If we're ever in the area again, we will return.

This property, which is located down a dirt road on a ranch, was really amazing. The house is well-cared for and the yard and surrounding areas were impressive. The property was very quiet and had a lot of wildlife roaming around. Would definitely recommend.

We (four adults and a 1 and 1/2 year old grandson) spent three lovely, peaceful nights here. We spent one full and two half days in the NP and a half day driving scenic route 12 to small, but very interesting Anasazi State Park in Boulder. Each night we returned to Elk Valley Ranch to cook dinner in the well appointed kitchen, relax on the comfortable couches, clean up in the sparkling bathrooms, and sleep in the comfortable beds. Following the directions sent by the owner, we had no difficulty finding the place and loved the deep quiet and beautiful views. Our grandson loved the birds and the bunnies in the yard and on the dirt road. I would return to Elk Valley Ranch and highly recommend it.

What a gem. This listing particularly the barn was a step back into a movie set for Bonanza or perhaps more currently, Yellowstone. Beautiful antiques, well appointed and supplied, this was a restful surprise from National Park trecking.

Beautiful home; beautiful setting
This was a fantastic rental house. It’s in a secluded valley with rock cliffs, green pastures, and friendly horses. The master bedroom was easily large enough to fit a king inflatable mattress for our girls. The house itself was well appointed and attractive. The big kitchen was great for meal prep. The gazebo was lovely for grilling and using the fire pit. Tim, the property manager/owner, was responsive and very helpful. The only trouble we had was originally finding the property. Do NOT click on VRBO’s link for directions.

Capitol Reef Gateway
This well maintained and secluded property provides all the comforts of home with beautiful views and easy access to Utah 12. Located a short drive from the main road the home is a cozy 2 bedroom with a well equipped Kitchen. Our family of three had ample room and the home could accommodate twice as many comfortably. Hosts were attentive and responsive to communication - this is a highly recommended location if you plan on touring Capitol Reef for a couple of days. We plan on returning for another Llama hike (google it) and we will certainly be staying at this property again.

Quaint, quiet and clean
We had a great two nights at this off the beaten path ranch. The property description and amenities were as advertised, and the home was very clean. Watching the deer jumping over the neighbors fence, grazing in their yard, along with the cows in the pasture, made for a unique, pleasant experience. Would definitely stat here again

Beautiful surrounding and beautiful house !
Stayed for 2 nights, enjoyed both the house and the Capitol Reef NP as well as the surrounding area. House, or ranch, is spacious, tastefully decorated and well equipped. After a day's hike and scenic driving, we returned to the house and it was so relaxing and enjoyable. Property manager is prompt and responsive to any inquiries, gave perfect directions as to how to get there, highly recommended.

Great spot for exploring Capitol Reef
The two bedroom, two bath home worked well for our two couples of almost retirees. The view was serene and lovely. We enjoyed watching the horses, cattle and deer out the large windows. The kitchen was well equipped, beds were comfortable and the home was beautifully decorated. Everything functioned well. A favorite stat for us.

Beautiful Quiet Views
This property is tucked approximately 2 miles off the stunning rt 12. The road in is a bit rough. We were trailering motorcycles to ride the area so Sandy found us a place to park close to rt 12 so that we could ride - since traversing the 2 miles was more than we were comfortable with. The property(s) itself is in a beautiful valley with little to no noise. Their horses and cows are enjoyable to watch. We alaosaw some Elk one evening.
The house is comfortable and clean. It does not have air, as another review said, but there are ceiling fans and personal fans that, once the evening cool starts, provide a nice sleep. (We're more window people, so we did not care). There are sharp knives, which seems to be a rarity. I also think that any house that costs more than $200 a night should have a good coffee maker (not the cheapest one you can find at Walmart)...but that's just us.
We are outdoor people, and typically don't use too much in a rental home except the beds and showers which were both great. But being outdoor people our review focuses on the outdoor. We like to cook outside and eat outside, so the grill being approx 30 feet away in the gazebo was not handy. There also is not an outdoor table. The attached small porch held 2 chairs that were not made to spend much time in. The gazebo that was in the corner of the yard had comfy chairs, but once 6pm came was in full sun (we usually never made up late enough to enjoy those chairs in the shade...lol). I mention this for the outdoor people, many won't care about an outdoor table or even how far away the grill is, but the outdoor space is probably more important than the indoor space to us. I mention this for those who are like us.
Utah is stunning (my favorite state) and the property is beautiful, we just kinda would have liked a little bit more comfortable outdoor space to sit outside and enjoy those beautiful surroundings.

Great property and scenery
Very clean and well presented given our circumstance. Only disappointment was no ac for the hot period. However, the boys and hubby enjoyed family time at the fire pit and a graceful walk around the ranch. Must be breathtaking in the winter.

Quiet, beautiful location - great for a Capital Reef visit
The location is so peaceful. Woke up to 9 deer in the field next door. Playing pickleball with the family was fun. It was about 25 minutes to the Capital Reef visitor center. We loved the big front room, the back porch, and quiet firepit in the backyard. The property owners were very responsive to all our information requests. Will definitely consider visiting here again.

Outstanding!
This house is beautiful, comfortable and well-equipped for a stay in a beautiful area. The furnishings were lovely, the house had everything necessary to prepare meals, including an outdoor barbecue and picnic table, as well as a washer and dryer and a large garden. The house has an open-plan kitchen/dining/living area, a large master bedroom with en-suite bath and a smaller bedroom with a bath across the hall. I would recommend this getaway for any small group.

An oasis to return to from our visit to Capitol Reef park and long hiking days. Very comfortable beds, well outfitted kitchen, beautifully appointed common areas in which to sit and talk

Beautiful property
This is a lovely property, and the house is just as pictured online. Being out on the ranch was delightful....SO quiet!! The location was close to Capitol Reef National Park, which made daily trips there easy. Sandy (the owner) was available, responsive, and very pleasant to deal with. We highly recommend this property.

Beautiful Secluded Ranch
This home was very clean, the kitchen was stocked with all the necessary supplies, and the property was gorgeous. The pickle ball and basket ball courts were a game changer for our family. The wifi worked well enough for some remote work we had to do. The nights were beautiful and we enjoyed the best star gazing. Capitol Reef National Park is only 15 minutes away. If possible, I would bring your own groceries as the local store didn’t have a lot of options. The only reason I gave the “accuracy of online listing” 4 stars instead of 5 was that the listing said it slept 6. There were only 2 beds (a king and a queen). I think they were counting the couches as beds, which is fine, but I would have liked to know this before hand. Overall, the home was wonderful and the location just perfect. I would stay there again.

Beautiful home, stunning location
My husband and I stayed for two nights at the Gatehouse property at Elk Valley Ranch en route from Nevada to Colorado. The house had everything we could possibly need. We have stayed at many rentals and this home was more comfortable than most. We thoroughly enjoyed playing pickle ball on the property with beautiful views of the surrounding land and mountains. The reservation and check in process was seamless. We hope to return again in the future.
