Our favorite hotel, so far, on this trip, and one we would love to return to. This fourth generation family run hotel has true charm, character and elegance. The setting is inspiring. It fully lives up to the high standards of Relais et Chateaux hotels. The restaurant is beautiful and offers fine traditional french cuisine. The breakfasts were spectacular-in the sense that there were plenty of home made breads and pastries, freshly squeezed juice and superior coffee. The latter two are becoming a rarity. All through the hotel, there is attractive art work, furniture and rugs reflecting the history of the establishment..

The lighting system in our room was a bit fidgety. The elevator wasn't working, although we were able to manage the steps and staff brought our luggage up to the first floor.

Bar prices very expensive and bar service quite poor. Breakfast also expensive.

We had a perfect stay at Hotel de la Plage. It was more than we expected. It is a beautiful house in an amazing area. Dinner and breakfast at the hotel's restaurant were both fantastic. The staff, especially the head waiter were very friendly and competent. The beach with its sunsets and sunrises was great. We are back for more.

This beautiful old family hotel is located right on the huge beach at Sainte-Anne le Palud. There's a low stone wall bounding a patch of lawn and then the huge, wild beach! At the back, there's a sheltered courtyard with a few shady tables where you can have a simple lunch or a coffee or afternoon tea. Inside, this is a cocoon of comfort that isn't at all ostentatious but is just beautifully comfortable and well appointed. The restaurant - worth a detour in itself - is stepped down in tiers toward the beach, so everyone has a view of the sunset, and the food is really fresh and delicious. Naturally, with a lot of seafood. Rooms are spotless, stylish, mixing modern and vintage furniture, with a lovely spacious bathroom. Breakfasts are a lavish buffet and in the same bright room as the restaurant. Yes it costs an arm and a leg, but it's absolutely lovely. My wife and I don't normally spend much time in four star hotels, but I can certainly see why people do.

The section of beach with lifeguards is quite a walk away, if that bothers you. The wifi is good but the internet is very slow: but hey, you're at the beach, chill out and enjoy it. Surf the waves, not the Net!
