Our favourite Guest House in Nepal! Beautiful historical building with great rooms. Excellent restaurant. Perfect location!!
I loved everything about this place!
4.6
Great location and building! Love that the old architecture was kept. The staff was also very attentive. The owner helped when my partner was feeling ill.
Bathrooms could use updates. They were clean but a bit small, outdated.
4.6
Great historic building and a super location and staff. food was also really good!
If you are taller than 180cm, be prepared. you cannot stand up straight anywhere in your room.
4.6
We loved how they have maintained the history of the architecture but also made it a great place to stay. It was good location in a Heritage site with many historical temples and building easily accessible. We had one dinner, breakfast, and a snack - food was very good. Staff was excellent.
If you're tall (I'm 1.9 meters) you need to watch the height of ceilings and doorways to avoid hitting your head.

Loved how old this hotel is. Beautiful woodwork, old style rooms, tiny corridors and staircases - full of atmosphere and character. Getting to our room was an adventure in itself! All was good. Food was excellent at restaurant and staff were both courteous and helpful. Location on the square was perfect and interesting to watch from our windows. The noise from square abated at night but would recommend earplugs if you are on the Square
all good

The hotel is on a 700 years old building, very charming. Great location, in one of the main squares of the city. The breakfast was very good, and the food options on the restaurant as well. The team was friendly and helpful
People should note that building is very old, and they tried to conserve the original architecture, so the ceiling is very low, and installations are rustic, this is charming, but some people might not like it.
Our room was facing the street, so a little noisy.

The whole stay was brilliant - beautiful location on the Dattareya square, Arun, Zee and the team were great hosts, the breakfast was amazing - had the fab Bhaktapur special yoghurt, customised it for a vegetarian, the Mayur restaurant had lovely meals, they arranged my sight seeing, transfers, guide -Vikram who was super and I had a brilliant time. Highly recommended. Beautiful restored Newari home.

the people of the hostel are extreme nice. the room was really beautifull and clean. the building is beautifull old authentic. the location in the old city is great.
4.6
Old building with bucketful of character. Good spot for exploring the sights of the old city. Enjoyable stay but you need to have the right expectations for such a historical building e.g. noise/heat insulation. Embrace the uniqueness of the environment and you will have a great time.
If you have a room at the front you are exposed to early morning noise from the temple in the square outside. Low ceilings are a hazard in any old building and a particular challenge given i am very tall. The building is not well suited to anybody with mobility difficulties etc given narrow/steep staircases.

beautiful old building, filled with history and culture.

The hotel is beautiful
The service isn’t great and the staff is rude.
The bus they booked us on to Kathmandu kicked us off by the side of the motor way and we found out later the overcharged us hugely for the ticket - so just be careful if you book travel with them

- very traditional building. wow
- super nice and friendly owner
- best breakfast and coffee in Nepal
- great position
a bit cold for western standards. But it’s normal, can’t ask any difference in such traditional building

Was recommended Peacock Guest House by a friend who travels to Nepal frequently. It's unique, charming and comfortable. It's in a great location, easy to walk to a lot of attractions but also allows you to see a lot of local life. The staff make you feel very welcome - happy to answer my questions and help with other travel arrangements. Their support was really appreciated since I'm a female solo traveler. Stay here and you won't regret it.

Beautiful room (201), lovely staff and good food.

The lodge is juste super. a piece of art and history.
staff is really helpful and nice.
we are really lucky to stay there for 2 nights !

I had the top room with view over the square and loved it. The room was large with lovely furnishings. The electric blanket was welcome as the room itself wasn’t heated. Lovely under cover seating area out on a private terrace. The restaurant downstairs had the best food I’d had in the whole 3 weeks I was in Nepal.
Room wasn’t cheap (just under AUS$100) but worth the money. Quite a bit of noise from the square at night but died down by about 10pm. Rooms at the back of the hotel probable quieter.
4.6
fabulous old heritage building, such a privilege to stay there! great location. nice dining area and food. there was a massive festival on when we arrived!
we stayed 3 years ago and the electric blankets didn’t work ( it’s very cold) and they STILL don’t work. the really beautiful room with a view of the square is lovely BUT very cold and noisy. we arranged airport pick up but no one came for us.

Space of Architecture and Location so good

A wonderful place in a fantastic town. The house is perfectly renovated, the atmosphere is kind of magical. The room was super clean and comfortable and super quiet. The restaurant is very good and the staff is so kind and available at all time. They ve been really helpful to organize my trip. I loved the atmosphere of the hotel and the area. I had a wonderful time there!

Right off of the square! What a treat. As soon as you walk in you are transported to another world. A world in which you could imagine yourself forever! We loved it. Food, menu and drinks were fabulous. Room was spacious, comfortable and very clean.
4.6
Warm atmosphere, perfect location and excellent restaurant. The building is like a museum and even alone is worthwhile, with the carved wood everywhere.
4.6
Central location. Heritage building
We could not stay as there was an overwhelming smell and feel of damp in the room to an extent that it affected our breathing. The bathroom did not have windows and so all moisture flowed into the bedroom.
There were no tea/coffee making facilities or bottled water in the room. The bathroom did not have suffient shampoo/soap - the small vessels were not full.
Accessibility was limited with low ceilings and steep steps due to the hotel being an old building with low ceilings. This was not mentioned in the hotel/room description.
The hotel is vastly overpriced compared to other accommodation in Bhakapur.
Service levels ranged from polite to indifferent. The hotel did agree to accept cancellation due to the risk to health.

Breakfast was great! The owner was very friendly, helpful and kind. Love the location of the guesthouse as we were right smack in the middle of the festivities of Darshain!
A small suggestion to add mosquito netting on the windows to keep out mosquitoes.

The Peacock Guesthouse is a historical Newari house in traditional style full of typical woodcarving art, Newari are famous for. It is situated right at the Dattretraya Square with its temples and the famous Peacock window. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Breakfast and food delicious. Also the cafe is highly recommended.
My favourite room is the Baithak with the beautifully carved wood balcony!
The true historical rooms have lower ceilings than todays modern buildings. So very tall people need to watch out for the ceiling beams.

The Peacock Guesthouse is a historical Newari house in traditional style with beautiful woodcarving art right at the Dattretraya Square and the temples in Bhaktapur. The service team is very friendly and helpful. For me, especially the Bhaitak room is the most beautiful I ever had in Nepal.
During festival times the Dattretraya Square can be a little bit noisy - but only in the front. And Bhaktapur festivals are fun!

We came for one night and stayed for 5 days!!! Amazing place, authentic and beautiful. The staff was nice, friendly and helpful. Food is delicious!!!!Such an amazing experience in old city of Bhaktapur.

Lovely room with carved columns and lattice windows overlooking an old plaza with temples and shrines. Very atmospheric. Restaurants nearby and gentle live music from the temple into the evening. Little clanging bells woke me at 6am.
My room was up 3 flights of steps like ladders (literally) and then down one flight. I didn't mind but it would be difficult for some. Not all the rooms would be, but best to check, if this is a problem for you.
4.6
Beautiful restaurant, lovely Asian food menu that is a little different from only Nepali food, and very polite and thoughtful staff.
low ceilings
