The breakfast was good and for one night we were satisfied

All was ok

Everything from the decoration to the atmosphere, cozy homy feeling , good breakfast, attentive staff and specially Corinne, smiling and communicative ( not everyone speaks English)…owner / manager also always on the premises saluting guests. Excellent location to park the car ( with blue disk) right in front of the hotel. Rooms in the attic/third floor are charming and spacious, grand bathroom with ( oh! What a luxury!) walk-in shower. Ammenities ( liquid soap and body lotion ) amazingly good.

Nothing to do with the property - the eternal tolling of the church’s bell !!! Every 15 mns during the whole night… and special “symphony “ at 6 a.m You better get used to it in Switzerland ‘s small towns! Or don’t forget your earplugs if you wish to sleep the night thru without interruption…

Our stay at the Romantic Hotel was a perfect first experience in Appenzell. The staff was very friendly and responsive to our questions prior to and during our stay. We would absolutely recommend it and most definitely will return!

Nice hotel good location, nice comfortable room

The location of the hotel was great. Close proximity to the all hiking trails. The food at the restaurant was excellent and staffs were friendly and attentive. We loved the eggs menu on breakfast but found the sweet options limited. There is a sauna in the hotel too but no parking. You would need to pay for CHF8 per day parking nearby.

There was no free water in the room nor options to make coffee/tea. Pillows were a little too soft too.. had to request extra pillows.

We had to ask for more soap and more tissues, this shouldn’t be necessary

Hotel is charming, the staff are all excellent, our room was lovely (both the bedroom and the bathroom). Dinner at the restaurant was great (though for a 3-course meal with wine, expect to pay at least 100 CHF per person); the hotel had the tables well spaced for Covid & masks/hygiene were well respected - you can eat here and feel comfortable that they make the environment as safe as they possibly can.

The Appenzell church bells ring loudly every 15 minutes, right through the night, so it's impossible to sleep!! We averaged about 2 hours sleep per night and left exhausted, desperate to go home. We realise this is the town's problem, not the hotel but it's a real issue. I wouldn't recommend any hotel near the centre, if you want to be able to sleep well. Breakfast was ok but surprisingly poor choice of fresh fruit for a 4* hotel & the muesli was watery. Great coffee though. One of the reasons we chose the hotel was for the sauna: however it was never available except late at night, as you need to book a 2 hour slot well in advance (this is probably due to Covid and therefore understandable) but we wish we'd known that beforehand. The bedroom had a minibar but no tea/coffee making facilities, surprising for a 4* superior room. Again, that may be due to Covid, but then it would be good to have this explained.
