Let me start with the positives, the interior was clean, the bed and linens were comfortable, it was roomy for our four generations family of eight and the location was convenient to the various parties we attended in Charleston and throughout mount Pleasant.
The kitchen was adequate for breakfast and lunch, even though the lights seriously dimmed when you used the toaster and microwave at the same time. The water and ice dispenser did not witk in the refrigerator so be prepared to bring lots of water and ice.
The whole vibe was rustic second hand, but at least nothing was broken or torn. The exterior was extremely neglected and gave a horrible first impression.
The main reason for my review is to warn anyone with accessibility issues of the limitations in this property. Prior to booking I detailed our limitations (mom uses a walker, and my husband, an above knee amputee uses crutches. I confirmed the one bathroom had an easy step in shower with a grab bar and wide opening through the glass door. I also confirmed the front door was accessible. However, I was not warned that there are two interior steps without handrails that provide the only access to the bedrooms. Also there is not a hard surface that leads from the allowed parking spaces (rutted spots on the uneven lawn) through the long front yard. Only a narrow bumpy brick path with many angles to navigate. I was denied permission to deviate from their parking rules to get closer to the house.

Everything was good, but not, exactly, top of the line. Sofa was not comfy. Couldn’t watch the TV because it was limited to owner passcode. We tried hooking up a Roku we brought but that didn’t work. Pretty much sucked.

We had a group of 8 adults in town for a sailboat regatta. The place has plenty of room to spread out and is very convenient. It worked out great for our 5 night stay and I would stay there again.

The house was very clean and most importantly has 5 queen beds and 3 full bathrooms! The beds were super comfortable!
We didn't cook so can't comment on that, but we made toast and coffee each morning before we headed out which was great. The house is nice and in a great location with very easy access to Charleston and Sullivan's Island. We had our own car.
Steven was very responsive to the few questions/issues we had.

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely, spacious home. So many unique features! We especially loved the large theater style couch for TV viewing in the den. It was a very relaxing stay in a quiet neighborhood. It was a short drive to downtown Charleston, but also plenty to do nearby. Easy check-in. Hosts were very communicative.

Our family of seven stayed at The Gathering Place for five nights and it was a wonderful house for us. There was plenty of space, the house was clean and stocked with what we needed and the beds were comfortable. The house is also close to a grocery store and only a short drive to the beach and to downtown Charleston. While we were here we took a Ft. Sumter tour, a ghost tour and went kayaking-all were amazing! We would definitely stay again!

I stayed for 4 total nights for a small girls weekend. The house was great, spacious, and met all of our needs. The location was great - we were able to uber into Charleston or to the beach with ease. There are shops and restaurants within about a 12-15 minute walk from the house, which was very convenient. Embarrassingly, we did not open the first door you see upon opening the front door until a couple of days into our stay: it is the largest bathroom in the house - so don't make that mistake (not the host's fault, totally our own)! If I find myself in the Charleston area again, I would definitely consider staying here again.

The Gathering Place was the perfect house for our group of friends! There was plenty of space for everyone to spread out, including much-needed space away from the group for one of us to work during our stay. We had a great time cooking and the den was perfect for both sunny yoga and ending each night watching movies together. The house was also, as promised, close to both the beach and downtown, a big plus for us!
The only downsides were that the house wasn't quite ready at our check-in time (which the host did communicate as check-in approached) and some of the utensils needed to be washed before we could use them, but there were no major problems at all!
Overall, we had a really, really great time!

We rented this home for spring break, and were very happy with it. Everyone in our family of 6 was comfortable, and our kids loved having their own beds. We were meeting up with some family (who were staying in a nearby hotel) and there was plenty of space for our 2 families to hang out in the evenings. The area is super convenient to everything we wanted to do, but the neighborhood is nice and quiet. We had a great time!

Our large family stayed here and it was a great location in between Charleston and isle of palms. Our group had some complaints such as the smell of the old house which was easily solved with some air fresheners. Other members complained of the beds being hard. The dryer also took multiple cycles to dry small loads which we did let the host know and they assured us someone was going to come out and address that. But overall this was an awesome spot with a fully functioning kitchen and fresh linens and towels throughout. It was nice knowing we only needed to worry about bringing our own personal stuff and with so many baths we never had any issues showering which normally is a problem for such a large group. Everything was clean and the host was very responsive. Our family used the entire property including the playroom and the backyard and it was exactly what we needed for our quick trip away.

This is a very nice private house in residential neighborhood. It is right across the river from Charleston. This is a much better option than staying in downtown, where rentals/hotels are more than twice the price. There is private parking and very easy access to parks, the Yorktown and Sullivan's island.
The house has four bedrooms and is very spacious with a family and living room. 3 full bathrooms are fully stocked. The kitchen has all the essential utensils.
The owners are very responsive. We has some difficulty with the WiFi (and with a teenager, you know that is a cataclysm). We contacted the owners and they helped us troubleshoot it in a couple of minutes.
Charleston and the surrounding area are lovely. If you are traveling with a big family or group, this property is great. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay in the Gathering Place, the location was very great based on the things we had planned on our mini trip. The treats left by the host were yummy and much appreciated. The only downside was some of the beds were pretty hard, which left a little back pain the next day. All in all, it was a great property and would definitely stay there again when visiting the area.
