My family (husband and two kids, 8 and 7) spent a week at this charming rental house in Surry, Maine, and it was a truly wonderful experience. The house is beautifully situated in a quiet, picturesque area with stunning views of the surrounding nature. If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat, this is the perfect spot.
We enjoyed being close enough to explore Bar Harbor and the other coastal towns while still having a serene place to return to each day.
The rental house is well-maintained, clean, and very comfortable. It has a cozy charm with modern amenities, which made our stay very pleasant. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed to prepare meals, and we appreciated the thoughtful touches like a welcome basket with local treats. The living room was spacious and inviting, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.
One of the highlights of the house was the outdoor space. The deck offered a beautiful view of the waterfront, and we spent many mornings enjoying coffee and the fresh Maine air. The property also has direct access to the water which was a major plus with small kids. They could explore in our own private beach and splash in the water!

We absolutely loved our week at Idle hour II. The house is incredible and has everything you need. The sheets were so soft and the towels were great. The views are stunning from every room and the area is quiet. We enjoyed having some travel time and agree with Melissa the server from Perry’s lobster shack(it’s walking distance and the food is INCREDIBLE) Surry is the relaxed version of Bar harbor. Stop reading go book and enjoy it like we did!!

The house was clean and well appointed. We so enjoyed the windows overlooking the water and watching the tide coming and going. It was close to attractions but very quiet and off the beaten path.

We had a wonderful time with our family at Idle Hour Ii. Everything was as advertised and we felt at home from the moment we set foot inside the cabin/ home. What a location, very peaceful with an excellent lobster stand/ restaurant within 400 feet. Also, the drive to Bar Harbor was very scenic with lots of things to do along the way.

The wall of windows overlooking the water was gorgeous! The deck was nice to watch the tide come and go. Walks along the beach were peaceful and relaxing. We had fun shopping in downtown Ellsworth and Bar Harbor. The sights in Acadia are not to be missed! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!

The property was clean and as listed upon arrival. Our son loved having the water right up the the house and being able to fish. The house was well furnished, had extra blankets and adequate kitchen supplies. Any drawbacks were minor; limited food storage (pantry) space and limited local entertainment . Time to Bar Harbor/Acadia approx 50-55 min.

We were very pleased with our choice of this house. The beautiful location, great window views from both bedrooms, accessibility to Acadia National Park, and the restaurants that were close. The only challenge was the parking spot so close to the road. Otherwise, highly recommend.

Glad we chose this place to stay for our vacation. The views were wonderful, right on penisula with water right outside our door. Lots of windows so you could enjoy the beauty surrounding you. If we ever visit Maine again this is where we would hope to be.

This is a top notch spot! You can see the sunrise from your bed and get an amazing view of the ocean. Very clean space, kitchen has all the essentials to cook, and you can walk down to the beach during low tide! We were very sad that Perry’s lobster shack wasn’t open as their pier was being rebuilt but they should be up and running by mid-June. Overall, great place and highly recommend for a relaxing stay!

We had a great time at Idle Hour. The views of the water are amazing. The tides come right up to the house. We saw plenty of birds and even a seal. The house is very clean and well-provisioned. It's a perfect place to get away after spending the day on MDI. We would definitely stay here again.

We had a great family trip over school vacation. We were about 35/40 minutes to Acadia and we went and adventured there each day. The view from this property is unmatched. It’s quiet, peaceful, and exactly what our family needed!

There aren’t words to describe the view it’s just breathtaking. The house is wonderful with everything you need. The back of the house is all windows you can take in the view from anywhere. We all loved it!!!

The house is in a great location. Easy to get everywhere. Very clean and comfortable. The views are amazing. Windows everywhere. Enjoyed the beautiful sunrises every morning, can be seen straight from the bedrooms. I would definitely stay here again. Thoroughly enjoyed this stay. Thank you!

Clean as a whistle and cozy, this home has amazing views with ten windows facing the water. We loved seeing the lobster boats come and go and although we didn't see seals at this time of year, there were loons and two bald eagles. We just loved it here and hope to return. Thank you!

I loved the location! The communication and responsiveness from the host was fantastic. The property itself and deck could use some updating/remodeling but overall we were comfortable, had all the amenities and loved the full wall of windows viewing the ocean!

This property is right on the water with fantastic views of the bay and harbor. Walk the beach or walk to Perry's Lobster shack for the freshest lobster as you can watch them unload the days catch before you dine.

I had a great time staying at Idle Hour II for four nights in late September. The house is extremely comfortable, with everything needed right at hand. I slept in the upstairs bedroom to maximize my view of the water. The deck facing the inlet was clearly the highlight for me. Sitting there in the evening dark, watching the stars, hearing the water gently lapping at the shore, and just letting time slip away! Utterly magical. I hope I can stay here the next time I visit Maine.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Idle Hour, until Hurricane Lee chased us out a day early! The location was perfect for the activities we planned. Instructions were clear, house was immaculate and we couldn’t be more pleased with everything. If you’re considering booking this property, put it on your short list!

Beautiful, clean, spacious and well stocked. The drive to Acadia was scenic with convenient stops along the way (fuel, food etc.). We had a great trip and really enjoyed the vibe and views at this house!

We stayed for two weeks here and the view is beautiful, better than the pictures. The house is clean and well stocked with kitchen and bathroom supplies. Perry’s for good lobster is a short walk away. We had a couple of questions and minor issues when we first arrived, and the property manager was helpful and responded promptly. One note of caution for light sleepers — this property is right on a road, but the road is a dead end. It’s not like being on a highway, but there is frequent traffic. Light sleepers might find the traffic noise disturbing. It woke me pretty regularly, but my husband slept like a baby. All things considered, I’d rent again, but bring earplugs for myself.

We had a wonderful week in this lovely property. The view is just incredible and calming.
The house is well equipped and I even managed to get some work done, at the desk facing the ocean.
It’s definitely worth taking walks and enjoying the different points of view. We will come back.

Property was nice… we were looking forward to using the fire pit , but it was not operational . We did report it to the property manager….
The remote controls for the bedrooms ac are cumbersome to use and possibly need new batteries. The view from the living room was very pretty. Home was very clean and nicely decorated.

From the beautiful ocean views; the loons; the long road outside the door for hiking;the open concept of the cottage with all the windows all made the 7 day vacation extraordinary. Perrys Lobster Shack made everything over the top.

We had an amazing time here! Beautiful house, gorgeous area, and a fantastic view to wake up to everyday. Drove into Acadia most days to hike, and felt that this property was such a relaxing place to come back to after a day of adventuring.

What a wonderful getaway right on the water with your own little beach! The views simply can’t be beat. Absolutely stunning!!! The house was exactly as described and very clean. The kitchen is very nicely stocked and we had everything we needed. We were hoping to use the fire pit on our last night and were disappointed to learn there was no propane left. My only suggestion that would have improved our stay would have been the addition of room darkening curtains over the blinds because with those spectacular views comes that beautiful sunshine waking you up nice and early (whether you wanted it to or not!). Pack an eye mask if you’re like us and want to sleep in a little. We had an absolutely wonderful stay and would come back in a heartbeat! Thank you for sharing this beautiful getaway with us!
