Pros: Great location on quiet barrier island of OBX. Cool house layout with lots of rooms/baths. Great view of the water from patio and upper living room. Patio furniture made it a great place to chill day or night. Living room and kitchen were wide open and monster ceilings with ton of windows. Cons: Couple mouse sighting (Vacasa didn't seem to care when I pointed it out and asked them to investigate). One of the side bathrooms smelled like raw sewage. Some of the blinds broken around the house. One cockroach sighting. Ground level just needs general cleanup and landscaping to make it look a bit nicer. Overall: If didnt run into mice would likely consider coming back here. For what you paying, not worth it. With Vacasa not caring about my concerns, I wouldn't do this again. Too many other nice houses in OBX to come back to this one with these pest issues.

What looks like a great place on website never tells the whole story. We arrived Oct 1...I'll start w/ no info sheet in house..then we had no sheets or towels or so we thought..after a few calls to Hatteras turns out there was a yellow & black bin w/ zip ties in the hallway w/ sheets & towels...who knew..lack of info. Next screen slider in Master off track & for good reason once in track it wouldn't t move. Then we had some multi leg visitors...roaches. Then we found the house was not cleaned & there were dirty towels in living room in front of slider..oh the drapes @slider stained. Next carpet on steps stained. Next shower curtain in hallway bath..mold. More.. lamp shade in tv room damaged. Finally the towel & sheets from previous renter stayed on bottom step to entrance all week . Needless to say this has all been reported to Hatteras & no we will not be renting from Hatteras again....

Unfortunately, the home wasn’t as nice as what I felt the pictures showed it as. It needs some work and really needs to be deep cleaned. Upon arrival, there was pee under the couch, matted sand on the kitchen chairs, sand on the floors and shower curtains, pee sprayed against the wall in the half bath. We killed at least five cock roaches while there for our week stay. There was dirty sheets on the outside steps upon arrival as well as a full dishwasher of clean dishes that should have been put away before my arrival. Also, there are two showers but you can’t use them both at the same time unless you enjoy cold showers. The tv room needs work and seemed as if there was a current construction project happening (missing light fixture, dry wall/paint missing). Additionally, the two times trash was picked up was at 2:30 am and 6 am. Woke me up both nights sounding like trash bins were being beaten against the home. You can hear everything in the home! All the bedrooms are downstairs and the living area/kitchen is upstairs so if you wish to sleep before others you will hear it ALL. I recommend bringing a fan or a sound machine. I will say the home has the right amenities (could use some updates knives) and is a close walk to the beach. I just was really disappointed with the cleanliness of the home. I have a baby who crawls everywhere and I was hoping to not arrive and have to clean up someone else’s dogs urine on the floor.. I won’t be returning.

The location was wonderful, an easy walk to the beach. Beds were comfortable, but the kitchenware, comforters, and living room furniture need some updating!

We booked for November, knowing it would be chilly. When we arrived at 7pm, the temp in the house was 50 degrees. We killed two cockroaches and had various dead bugs throughout the house. For the price, this should have been better. It felt like we were camping. It appeared as though they dropped off towels but haven't cleaned the home thoroughly in a long time. The dishwasher was broken. Would not stay here again!

Loved the layout of this place. Nice ocean view from the top deck. Comfortably furnished with tasteful artwork throughout. Conveniently located at the end of a cul-de-sac, at a beach access point. Still a pretty good haul to the beach itself, which may be difficult for younger children or elderly folks. Liked the place though and most likely will return!

Needed this week so much to be nice and quiet. It was, the house was a welcoming attraction all week; after the beach and after meals out. It was so quiet in the deck and the little Tv room offered an nice perk we weren’t looking for… scary movies before Halloween! Hated to leave.

Waking Dream is a wonderful vacation spot! It's right off the beach. You do need to traverse significant dunes, but that's true for all houses in Avon. The view from the great room is beautiful and unencumbered!

Avon is away from the main drags, but in these times that's a major plus. The beach is spacious and not crowded. Plus, the night sky is spectacular. You still have DQ, Food Lion, and Duck Donuts. What more could you want?

A few critiques: the cleaning prior to our arrival could have been a bit more thorough. Also, the management company could have been a bit more generous with starter amenities. Be prepared to bring or buy soap and shampoo if you stay more than a few days.

This home was very clean, had a great view of the ocean and proximity to the Kinnakeet shops.

The house was clean and had a well equipped kitchen with mostly everything you would want or need. The description of the location to the beach is slightly deceptive - beach access is very close but the actual walk to the beach is longer than anticipated. We still had a wonderful, relaxing week and would definitely recommend this house to others.

The house is well situated (great beach access) and nicely laid out but needs updating and deep cleaning. Carpets and furniture upholstery appear soiled, window glass needs cleaning, and cushions on screened in porch were in shreds. Also, be careful of nails sticking out of deck boards.

Would do it again

The house was very nice and just as listed. Great beach access and views. The "locals" neighbors gave us a somewhat hard time, and the mosquitos and flies were awful. Bring LOTS of repellent. There were a number of roach-like bugs in the house as well.

Excellent rental property with all the amenities required for a perfect week’s vacation! Beds were comfortable, furnishings were clean and appropriate for a beach house. Beautiful views from the oceanfront deck. Short steps to the beach just over the dune across from the house. I would highly recommend this property! Excellent value for the price!

My husband's parents and our family (2 parents, 3 kids) stayed in Waking Dream the week of August 11-18. The house is beautiful, nicely decorated and roomy, with a great kitchen/living room layout for socializing and enjoying a lovely view of the ocean in air-conditioned comfort :) The beds were quite comfortable and we had plenty of space in the bedrooms. The kids loved the loft bed! The location was perfect. We were about 20 feet from the beach access walkway, so we could go on and off the beach without a second thought. The street itself was pretty and quiet. We were close to plenty of shops, food places and the Food Lion in town, and there was even a gluten-free muffin place a few blocks down the road! We truly enjoyed our stay in Waking Dream!
