Upon arrival very beautiful house. Through out The Weeknd noticed small things that needs to be upgraded. Surround system was a little difficult to figure out. Overall house was great. Everyone enjoyed the stay.

This property is in a great location, easy access to Durango yet far enough away not to hear street noise nor ambient light to detract from star gazing. The kitchen set-up lends itself to an open inviting family time preparing meals. Bedrooms are of good size and well appointed. Overall our family had a really nice stay and would stay again if the opportunity presented itself.

Fabulous layout for a group of eight!

Our group spent every morning and evening on this gorgeous deck to take in the amazing views and stargaze. There was plenty of room for all of us and we truly enjoyed the property. The management was very attentive to an issue we had and fixed it immediately.

This was the perfect property for a group of 12 women on a girls trip. Plenty of space and bathrooms which is what a big group of girls look for. There was every amenity available and it was just perfect. The only tiny thing that was hard is that there was not a freezer in the two fridges in the two kitchens. We had things that needed a freezer when we arrived and had to go to a store to get ice and a small cooler only to find a freezer after the fact down in the basement in the laundry room. But truly was not a huge issue or a deal breaker. We loved this location and highly recommend it.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The home was large enough to give the adults some separation from the teenagers, allowing plenty of beds and bathrooms for everyone. The decor is a little dated and in need of some refreshing, but the home is in great condition and very comfortable. The snow removal service was prompt and frequent enough that we never felt stuck, and we couldn't have asked for a more picturesque location.

Had a great time here. House was clean and had plenty of room. They aren't kidding about needing 4/AWD to get up the hill, it's steep but definitely manageable with 4/AWD. Bout 10 minutes outside of downtown but beautiful open space away from any other houses

Reviewer Comments: We thoroughly enjoyed the setting and amenities that were provided. There were a few things that need to be addressed - the property needs a thorough cleaning as many of the light fixtures were dusty with cobwebs hanging from them, the windowsills were also dusty, there were rodent droppings in baskets in the dining room and one of the drawers in the downstairs kitchens, and several of the beds need new mattresses. Also, we asked if there was a Keurig coffee machine, the rental company said no, however, there is one in the upstairs kitchen. This really is a beautiful home in a natural setting with plenty of space for a family gathering just a few things need to be addressed.

We had an excellent stay at the Elk Mountain retreat. This was the perfect location for a Large group. Everyone had their own space and the common areas provided a great location to come together. The views in the facility are equally wonderful. The customer service was more than we could’ve asked for as well! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a mountain getaway

This was a large & lovely home in a great location. We loved the decks & the space. Working w/ the property management team was a positive experience. Upon our arrival, two of the five toilets were not working. Mgt worked hard to get someone out for repairs. Despite a good sized kitchen, the knives were so dull & in desperate need of sharpening. Some of the bathroom sinks were quite slow draining. The decor is very dated & decorative pillows & throw blankets are ratty & torn. The lighting is poor so it is quite dark in the home. The beds are in need of new mattresses. The only two good ones were the king beds. The lower level was musty & the upper two levels were stuffy. Not sure if the home is on a septic system but half of the bathroom sinks were quite stinky. Despite all that & if you're willing to look beyond, it is a nice home for a large group getaway. Finally, I was super disappointed that the home rental price was reduced on line but we were not given the lower price when I inquired about getting the lower rate. Go & enjoy. The home has much to offer.

Communication before the rental was very good. Based on benchmarking the property against other homes we have rented in the Grand Lake and Creede areas - I offer the following opportunities for improvement.1. The freezer is located in very close proximity to the washer/dryer. This make access difficult - especially since it is on the ground floor and the only place to store ice.2. The metal trash dumpster at the entrance needs to be emptied more often. We were not able to dispose of our trash bags there at the end of our stay because it was full.3. The mattresses were tired and should be replaced sometime in the not too distant future.3. Throw pillows on leather couch were so thread bare that fill was coming out. A survey of household furnishing for replacement and refreshing is needed. 4. I am sure the house is rented frequently. To keep pace with top tier rentals - the home is probably in need of some refreshment - counter tops and decorations.5. A number of lightbulbs need replaced.6. There was a distinct smell in the ground level hallway to the bedrooms and bathroom,7. If the hot tube will not be repaired - then remove it. If you plan to repair it - the repairs should be made sooner than later. It is an eyesore in its current state.8. Solar powered sidewalk lights are not functional.

This house was great for our large family. With 3 floors of living spaces plus 2 kitchens, everyone had room to settle in and relax. Central location for all kinda of activities - Lake Nighthorse, Purgatory, Main Street, Mesa Verde, tubing/rafting, Zipline, train ride, and tons of hiking spots. We stayed a week in July and it was hot during the day but cooled off at night with the windows cracked. If you have allergies, bring your meds. There is old carpet in the bedrooms.

We booked this property for our son’s graduation from Ft Lewis College. We had a total of 11 family members coming from VT, CA, FL and AR. So much better that trying to get hotel rooms for everyone and coordinate outings. This beautiful property was so perfect! The home was big enough, we could hang out together, make dinner, or get a little privacy. We made all our meals there in the spacious kitchen and enjoyed corn hole, billiards, and just relaxing on the incredible deck. Everyone enjoyed it so much! We will all miss this place and will cherish the wonderful memories we made!

When we ran out of firewood, the property management was very quick to respond and delivered more firewood promptly. The house had everything we needed for a wonderful family gathering. The shower pressure was low in the upstairs master. The lighting was poor throughout. The kitchen was well stocked but unorganized. We saw a few mice in the basement. Elk Mountain Retreat is a very nice property and our family enjoyed it. It's very private, with great views of the mountains and decks pretty much surrounding the house. The massive log cabin is charming, but has some quirks, like some very low beams (marked with signs), including one in a shower. We lost water service for a few hours. The property manager was very responsive. There were a number of mouse traps in the garage. A half dozen or so had dead mice in them. The exterminator hadn't been by in a while.

This has been great home for our kids/grands! Lots of space, both inside and out. Love the rustic architecture and furnishings. “We’ll be back!”

We had our family 5 couple and two teenage nephews 16 and 19. The house was great, the management company communicated well. We did the railroad, make reservations early, Zip line and ATV rentals. Rode to Telluride and the Mesa Verde. Durango downtown is only 6 milers away. We took turns cooking every night. There is always some shade around the deck or patio the way the house is built. The house was great, we really enjoyed hanging out on the balcony and playing pool downstairs. It was secluded but close enough to town to get their easily. The kitchen was great and had everything we needed to cook multiple times.
