This was a great cabin. It was small and cozy yet big enough to enjoy. The decorations of this cabin made you feel right at home. Very clean and stocked well. It has a nice sized patio with a BBQ, table set and some chair. Communication was great quick response. I will definably be retuning to this cabin again for my next trip to the mountains.

This cozy cabin provided a great place to stay while hiking near Bear Valley. It was hot but the owner provided many fans to cool off the cabin. We enjoyed using the BBQ and deck for meals.

Out for a guy’s trip with a longtime friend. Great cabin enjoyed our stay. Owner was quick to respond with some minor issues that arose (mostly my fault). My second stay here and may stay again.

Our family of for enjoyed staying at this cozy cabin in the snow. There was just enough snow for our young California kids to play in while we cooked breakfast and got ready for the day.
The only reason that we would not stay here again is because the window in the kids room did not have any window treatments so forget sleeping in.

We enjoyed this cozy and restful cabin. It is setup functionally and decorated nicely. The host quickly responded to all of our questions. The fireplace was easy to use, but we were reminded of needing to provide our own wood. Most things were updated, except we suggest newer pillows especially upstairs. We would enjoy returning to this modern-retreat spot!

I stayed with my 2 boys (ages 5 and 7) for 2 nights and we loved this place. Skied at Bear Valley yesterday and there was zero snow on the ground at the Roost but we woke up to almost a foot of snow and it was still coming down as we left! It was so pretty. Definitely need 4WD to get out of the community with snow. Amenities are top notch, and the decor is beyond cute!

Cabin was absolutely perfect. It was nice and close to bear Valley Ski Resort and sledding. Had everything you need for a nice weekend getaway. Will definitely be booking again.

The stay at the Roost Cabin was enjoyable. It is a beautiful cabin. However, a few little things needed attention. The toilet seat was very loose. The toilet paper dispenser (half inch black pipe) was loose and could not be used. There was no floor mat to step on after bathing. There was a small rug in front of the toilet but slid easily and was unsafe if stepped on at an angle. There was still evidence of rodents in the cabin. Loose Insulation from the floor ductwork blew into the rooms. The floor vents rattled and were noisy affecting restful nights. One of the solar panels for the top porch light strings was found on the ground under the porch. There were two books about cabins entitled CABIN PORN. I'm sorry, but as serious as the matter of PORN is, I felt the title of the books was very distasteful, and removed the books from sight. Being a handyman, I was able to fix the toilet seat, the toilet paper dispenser, locate the misplaced solar panel, and remove some of the loose Insulation from the floor vents. It seems that there should be someone who inspects the cabin more closely for little details. Little things affect the overall enjoyment of staying at even a very lovely cabin.

This was a clean and cute cabin that has been remodeled nicely. The owner is very kind and helpful. Perfect getaway in a quiet neighborhood. Has all you need to cook and the bed is pretty comfortable.
Hot water came on fast. Super cute deck to relax and drink coffee. All the furniture and decor was nice.
The only things we thought should be fixed is the toilet seat was broken. Several lights were burned out and we wished the upstairs was at least a queen not a double bed. Only one person can fit in that.

The cabin was very clean and cozy. We had everything we needed. We enjoyed our 3 days there. Went to Murphy's wine tasting, Angels Camp golfing and a day hiking around the Calaveras Big Tree State Park. I would stay there again.

The Roost is situated in the trees. Beautifully decorated and has a really nice deck. Super quiet location. Rooms are small, so w four people it would be tight. For just the two of us, it was fantastic.

We enjoyed our stay in this adorable little cabin in the woods. Comfy beds, modern appliances, close to Murphy’s and big trees state park. She even had little snacks and a nice bottle of wine waiting for us!

We spent 4 days at The Roost Cabin enjoying cross-country winter activities in the surrounding Bear Valley area. The cabin is beautifully situated in a quiet forest landscape and offers a nice getaway in the woods. Our host Marylin was very communicative and quickly responded to all requests. There are a few quirks (TV is located in an awkwardly high position above the mantle, a low-hanging light immediately above the couch which I guarantee you’ll hit with your head, worn and lumpy couch cushions, empty amenities in the bathroom), but overall, The Roost Cabin is a pleasant stay!
One note of caution: The driveway is somewhat steep at the beginning and levels off to a flatter parking section roughly 25’ up the driveway. We stayed right after a big snowstorm and the parking section was not completely cleared of snow. As a result, I had to park on the sloped section, but came out later in the evening to find the car had slide all the way down the driveway into the street. We had to clear the parking section by hand, re-parked and had no more parking issues.
As a final note, there are quite a few add-on fees (VRBO service, host service, cleaning, damage protection) that seem a bit excessive. These fees equated to almost 2 additional “nights”. To Marylin’s credit, she did work with us to refund a portion of the cleaning fee when we found a baited mouse trap in the bathroom inadvertently left by the cleaning service.

The Roost was an adorable cabin in a quiet neighborhood. My husband and I took our two boys (ages 4 & 7) for snow play. We never had to leave the cabin for anything (except for firewood) as we were able to play in the snow right off the deck and the kitchen was very well stocked for all our meals. I was extremely happy with the cleanliness of the cabin, and I have VERY high standards. The cabin stayed warm and cozy with the wood stove. Sitting out on the deck was just so peaceful and beautiful, I’d love to see it in the summer. I appreciated all the hooks available in the living room, bedrooms and bathroom helped keep our items tidy. There is a little reading book upstairs that is so peaceful and perfect for relaxing. It’s clear a lot of love has been put into The Roost and Marilyn was an excellent communicator. Enjoy!

Don't pass this one up. This cute little cabin in the woods was just what we wanted. It had everything we needed for a perfect getaway plus some fun extras like streaming tv services, items in the pantry, and card and board games. The property manager was very prompt with replying, very friendly and extremely accommodating. We would highly recommend "The Roost" to anyone looking to come to the area.

The Roost was a super cozy cabin, perfect for our family of three. Our son had his own loft to sleep and spread out with his toys. The kitchen was well appointed with cookware basics, pantry staples, and glassware. I enjoyed spending time on the deck with a book, listening to the birds and squirrels. Very quiet neighborhood, close to Big Trees and Lake Alpine.

It goes without saying the property is located in the most beautiful mountain setting Northern America has to offer in California. Our only discomfort was the weather, the dry heat became an issue, especially for the elders in the group. Hospitality and location was above and beyond. Thank you.

Pre 4th of July
Communication and location were excellent. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return to the area again.
Information for owner/property manager: Decks were not swept, there was an outside fire pit that was filled with cigarette butts, garbage around outside area and random tools & hardware left out, kayaks not clean, screen door laying outside kitchen door. It would be helpful to have info for guests with restaurants, menus, maps of area, local activities, and list of summer/seasonal events.

Wonderful stay in the forest
We loved our stay at the roost! The cabin is super well located, minutes drive to the Big Tree state park park which is amazing. It’s also one of the cleaner VRBOs I’ve stayed at. The cabin is really well appointed with plenty of spices, cooking oils, storage bags, condiments and cooking utensils. The knives specifically were really nice and sharp which is rare for a rental. It also came hooked up with Netflix and Hulu which was appreciated for our little one. Lastly, the owner is really lovely and accommodating. I left my jacket at the property and she kindly shipped it to me at no charge. Will definitely be back!

Cozy romantic getaway
We decided to rent this property for a romantic getaway to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. We were very pleased with the cabin from the moment we pulled into the driveway. Aside from some dirty silverware and a few expired staples in the cabinet it was clean, cozy, quiet, and a wonderful place to make some great memories. We even got treated to snow fall in May. I would say it's a 9 out of 10 and we hope to rent it again.

Lovely cabin
We enjoyed our stay at this nicely decorated, cozy little cabin in the woods. It is conveniently located near the town of Arnold and close to Calaveras Big Trees Park as well as an easy drive to Lake Alpine. The owner was very receptive and quick to respond to our minor concerns which we appreciated. Nice place to stay for a week in the woods!
