Historic Hotel in the center of town!

Great historic hotel! Cannot beat the location- it’s right in the heart of the town. You can walk everywhere!

Definitely a unique stay. Definitely not for your common comment complainer. But for me it was great. Karoke was fun drinks cheap great vibe fabulous service. Adventure traveler spot also the cheapest in town by far.
2.5
Check in was super easy. Staff was very friendly and great about explaining the noise from the bar is loud especially in certain rooms so we were able to get a room that wouldn't be as exposed to the noise. The location is fantastic and great to walk around.

Look, the place is old or as they say historical. Dont expect to sleep if the bar below is hopping. Great location to entertainment and dining.
4.0
Old, but adequate for location and price.

This place is a classic. Like alot of Alaska, it is funky. The location is right in the middle of town, which makes it central to all things Juneau. Colse to all the great bars and places to eat. We just spent one night, which was fine.

This hotel is over 100 years old but it's well maintained with a very helpful staff. There are antiques throughout to add charm. Rooms are approximately furnished to match the overall decor. Bed was comfortable as was the room temp. Be aware there are 43 steps to the 3rd floor and no elevator. It's a hotel and bar and the bar's not soundproof, if that might be a concern. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Can't beat the location.

As you would expect from an old antique hotel and this is part of the charm, squeaky floors and all.
Embrace the step back in time to when accommodations were simple and effective.
The Alaskan Hotel and Bar lacks nothing but;
Not for the soft easily upset, be patient, wait and take your time. :0)

Ok if you are considering coming to this property please be advised that it is a two star hotel at best. The property is a bit rundown, the rooms are rudimentary but I did have a fridge. The bathrooms and showers are in the hall. The bedding is adequate but not luxurious. In other words this is not a fixed up boutique hotel.
It is though in the heart of tourist Juneau, it was clean, it was secure and the staff was helpful and courteous.
One word of warning. I checked in on a Saturday and the sign said that if you were checking in during the evening you were to go to the Alaska Bar. However Saturday was karaoke, the bar was packed and I have no idea how easily you would check into your room if you came in late.

Great stay and reasonably priced compared to other more modern options. I happen to really enjoy stays in historic hotels, and the Alaskan is a great example. The only thing that went wrong was the outlet above the sink. Tried to plug in my phone charger and there was a short in the socket that tripped the breaker and I did not have any lights in the room. Could not find the breaker or fuse panels in the hallway so I think all the rooms at the end of my hallway might have lost power. No worries though, still all good.

Character hotel in good location. It’s around 100 years old but a few improvements here and there would make a big difference. Ancient cracked hand basins could be replaced, bathroom fans could be replaced to reduce the horrendous noise, the beds shouldn’t swoop in the middle or have sheets which are too small. There is no elevator so be aware that the stairs are steep and there are a lot of them. Whatever you do, don’t accept room 322 or you’ll be subjected to music from the bar, competing music from across the street as well as the shouts and noise from the drunks and addicts on the footpath. Having said all that, other people didn’t seem to mind how decrepit the place was and we found the young staff very helpful.

I specifically requested a quiet room away from noise of bar because I’m a light sleeper. We were put in room 217 which is directly above the bar. Bar open til 2 am, and our bed was vibrating from the loud music. Bars don’t work in a hotel. Process more affordable but wouldn’t stay again.

Great relatively inexpensive hotel in downtown Juneau. Fun place to stay for couples and solo adults. Great character and a good place to crash for the night in Juneau if you don’t mind a bit of noise from the bar.
3.0
This is a very old hotel. That was interesting to see an hotel from 1913, but the oldness comes with a few catches. First their is no elevator and the stairs are very steep to climb, which we had to climb three flights of stairs. And second there is not hotel front desk person after 4pm. You have to go to the bar and ask a bartender to let you in your room or for any other services. The price for Juneau is cheap, just recognize it as an old hotel, but the room was fine

Lots of history. Room was good, staff was helpful.

Convenient downtown location and good value.

First off, I’m not one to complain and stay at cheap hotels all over the country. Old carpet, shared bathrooms, even bugs whatever… I’ve been known to tolerate some pretty lousy conditions on the road working. To start off, I actually like the old vibe of the hotel and the atmosphere… the bar and bartenders are fantastic and even the locals like hanging out here and there’s even live music. The big deal breaker for me though was NOT HAVING A LOCK that worked on the door of my room. I told the staff when I realized it wasn’t locking and they told me there were no other rooms and they would get it fixed. I stayed there four days and they never bothered to even bother to apologize or update me. The lock was never addressed and I had to prop a chair up against the door every night sleeping. It’s a real tragedy this place isn’t managed better because with a few basic needs addressed it would be a nice place. FIX YOUR LOCKS OTHERWISE DONT RENT THE ROOM! Also get a real front desk, those poor people running the bar have enough responsibility and shouldn’t have to cover for the lack of staffing at the hotel

I slept well, despite a very poor mattress. This hotel is right over the bar, and was quite noisy. I had earbuds that helped.
2.0
This place is a very affordable option in the heart of downtown, but the issue is that it can be EXTREMELY noisy due to loud music from the bar downstairs LATE into the night. The problem is that the music somehow resonates and amplifies through the walls, producing headache inducing bassy noise, often up to 1 am. This makes some rooms (the ones prone to this noise) essentially unsuitable for habitation. If you're lucky enough to get a room where you can't hear the noise, then the hotel interiors are charming and quaint.

Leaving Cob webs and mold is not keeping authenticity of hotel. It was dirty, needed polished, and maintained. The bar was fun and nostalgic, but also needed work. Only place I visited in Juneau that I didn't feel safe.
1.0
Mattress was soft and lumpy in a bed that had bowls around its legs, possibly to deter bugs. It was terribly warm in late morning and couldn’t control the temperature or open a window. Also, there were no drinking glasses in the room.
We climbed up 3 flights of stairs with our luggage. Not for mess a 70 year old!
Location in downtown Juneau was good.

This is a hotel above a bar. The building is old and historic. If you want tone in downtown and near lots of restaurants the location is great. But if you don’t want to be close to the cruise ship area this is not the hotel for you. The rooms are small which should be expected in an historic hotel. I stayed Friday and Saturday night so the music from the bar was quite loud well past midnight. The hotel is cheap compared to others in the downtown area, so costs and location are the two selling points. The staff was very good and helpful as well.

Wonderful!

The hotel is a historic hotel. I knew that when I booked. The bar was cool and vintage, but the hotel room was terrible. The window could not open and there is no ac. The sheets were so thin you could see through them. The comforter was falling apart. There were terrible smelling plug ins to cover the old smell. There is not a bathroom in the rooms. And the bartender was rude, even saying "f ing tourist" to my friend I was traveling with. I would have left if I could have found another room so late.
3.0
We expected it to be old but there was LAYERS of dust on items in out room such as the fan. Also you have to have a key card to get in to the building and the instructions to get in are at the front desk...inside the building... be prepared to check in with the bartender next door

This hotel should not be in operation. When I read the previous reviews I am just absolutely amazed that people liked this place! The bedding was almost see through, the top quilt was shredded on the underside. It smelled sooo bad and the plug ins they use made it worse! We had to share a toilet and shower with the whole floor, none of which was disclosed when booking. The bar blasted music until late and you could hear it on the 2nd floor. Windows did not open and no fans were provided. The bartender was rude and cursed me when he couldn’t hear my order properly for the loud music, called me an effing tourist. DO NOT stay here!!

It was an interesting stay. This is not a hotel for someone seeking a cookie-cutter room. There are shared bathrooms and showers, but there is a sink in the rooms. Even though I stayed on the hottest nights Juneau experiences, it was still a good night. Staying there felt like staying in history -- one could get a good sense of life 100 years ago or more. The staff was helpful and it was nice to have a hotel right in the middle of things.

Crappy old room with nothing at all to recommend at all. Would not use Expedia to book or follow their recommendations. It was a horrid experience. Felt like I was afraid of catching something. DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL.

The room was clean and the employees friendly. The hotel is old and smells. The room was very warm and the windows wouldn’t stay open without being propped open. Due to the necessity of keeping the windows open, the noise from the street came right in and lasted until 2 am.
The shared bathroom was clean but old and uncomfortable.

Fun experience and great location.

Wade from the front desk was super nice and helpful! The hotel overall is quite old and has a lingering cigarette smell, but it has all the necessary amenities.

Funky old hotel. A little janky, but appropriately so.

The bar was extremely loud, staff was good but definitely not a clean place but was affordable. Not old people friendly as no elevators

I love the staff at The Alaskan!

We were excited to stay there and enjoyed the historical building and decor. We did not mind the lack of modern amenities. Outside the hotel bar is noisy at night. Our last night a band played in the bar that was so loud we heard every word at top volume in our room. There was no way to sleep and we were extremely tired for our early flight

All good. The location is perfect. It’s just the smell in the rooms I have never smell before it’s very unpleasant.

Great atmosphere and exceptional service from the front desk. Quite the workout to the third floor. Fun character in this old timey hotel.
