We try to stay at Historic Hotels just because we love to see the restoration/ preservation and see all the history. Some do it better than others, but we are truly confused why this is considered a historic landmark? It’s old, for sure- but it does not honor the Historic Landmark title. The main lobby has some nice furniture and all kinds of pictures of politicians/celebrities. It was unclear whether these people had actually visited the hotel or not because the plaques just told you who they were, not stories about the visits. There is a strange film that I guess was supposed to look like stained glass on the windows by the doors. The rooms are tiny and not even close to restored. The furniture is cheap 80’s oak, and the bathroom is so tiny, hard to change your mind in let alone your clothes. It had cheap tile, and the tiniest builder grade sink. The shower head hit my husband in the lower chest. The bed was comfortable enough, and the water was hot. The breakfast was so sparse we decided to go out to find breakfast. The kid at the front desk was not rude, but certainly not hospitable. Just a disappointment over all.

I loved this place the moment I set foot inside. The staff was fantastic and friendly and knowledgeable, and the hotel itself was amazing, with all of the paintings of famous people who had stayed there. I wandered around for at least an hour just looking at everything. I look forward to staying here again soon.

Great stay amazing property full of history ,good location for viewing some of the older residences .Bed was great Breakfast was std motel continental but more than adequate.

Continental breakfast was a joke. Out of coffee, out of cream. But the worst was no toilet paper on the roll, has to dig thru a cupboard to find some. No trash can in the bathroom. Just little things that made it not a classy hotel. Building is nice and lobby is beautiful.

As part of a 3 week road trip through California, we stayed 2 nights here as our base before heading south once more. Our room was very comfortable, clean, and neatly prepared, and as a location was easy to find and had good parking. The hotel is historic and there are a number of paintings of the famous people who’ve stayed there in the past. What stood out most were the staff members who really looked after us well, especially Rachel who checked us in - she was an absolute diamond!

The hotel staff members are top notch and are very helpful. However, the hotel itself is falling apart. It has a ton of history but has not been maintained properly. It has a lot of potential. Needs to be revamped completely with modern amenities while maintaining its old world charm. But I doubt that it would happen. The neighborhood is dodgy. I slept with the windows open and could hear the screams of the transient nutjobs in the middle of the night.

Wonderful old hotel that has been wonderfully restored. Our room was a bit on the smaller side which would be typical of the day but nicely appointed and very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely historic hotel. Close for walking around downtown Eureka. Small room, but very comfortable and charming.

The room had a sewer smell at times. There was no ventilation in the room . The place is a historic place for sure and had impressive list of guest but the smell in the room and the low ventilation was a turn off for me. The parking was not in a convenient location. Low lights I almost felt down the stairs when I first came in. Too bad it looks like it was a very nice building once upon a time in Eureka , California.

This is a lovely place that is like walking into a time machine. Once you get past this, and immerse yourself in the history of the place its a lovely place!

The hotel seemed tired. The room was nicely decorated, however, room temperature was controlled by opening a window. The complimentary breakfast left everything to be desired.

Beautiful old hotel has a wonder list of dignitaries that have stayed there. Eureka is a lively historic town.

I liked the history component of the hotel. There were too many odd smells throughout the property, and the street noise on the front side of the hotel was a little irritating.

Fascinating historical hotel. Loved all the pics of famous people who had stayed there. Room was fine but bathroom was too small. Staff was friendly.

Place was very nice and clean. Female receptionist late night was great. Not a lot of hot breakfast options. Bathroom’s too small lighting is dark, no air conditioning and everything’s outdated.

Grand old hotel that has had work done to restore it but needs much more. The area around the hotel is somewhat blighted. If the hotel is brought back to form, the realestate between the hotel and old town would be ripe for renewal.

The property was lovely but there is a very strong potpourri smell in the lobby and it’s awful. The wifi in the room didn’t work and when we checked in they mentioned repeatedly that it only works in the common areas so when travelling from out of country you are stuck using your data.

Amazing experience from start to finish! We loved being able to explore this incredible historical landmark while enjoying the good amenities and local attractions. The lounge was a fun place for a drink, live music, and dancing after a day of exploring nearby! The only thing that wasn’t up to the same level as everything else was the buffet breakfast. Everything else about the hotel is really quite delightful but the breakfast buffet lacked options and there was nothing provided that was particularly nutritious (there were a lot of bakery items but very few protein-based items). Other than that, it was a very enjoyable stay!

This is a Historic Site and as such it has many fascinating aspects, but as a modern hotel it is severely lacking. No air conditioning-we had to request a fan for our room to take the edge off of the heat. The fan we received was a very small portable unit that was marginally acceptable. As an old property, it is not close to ADA accessible-front entry steps and steep front driveway were a challenge for us. The staff were nice, but it was difficult to get the feel of this town without a restaurant available in the hotel to get help in talking about their area.

It was an older unique property. But because I’m an empath I was uncomfortable staying there .

Beautiful historic hotel with all the historic charms

Well worth paying a little extra to stay here for the rich over 100 years of history. Rooms are stylish with nice furniture. If you need housekeeping you must ask despite the sign in the bathroom that indicated clean sheets and towels daily unless you put the do not disturb sign up. Very unfortunate that the bar and restaurant are still not open as they are both beautiful and were at one time top destinations in Eureka even if you weren't staying at the Inn. Over all really enjoyed our stay.
