Staff, ocean view was excellent, seems the property is run down, the shower water was backwards hot was cold and cold hot, tub didn’t drain normally, water backed up. Property needs some TLC. With a little TLC it could be what it once was.

Front desk service was great—quick and easy. And the view of the ocean was good, which was a priority for us. Now, the facility needs a lot of work. My suggestion is don’t go in with high expectations, and yes, it’s over-priced. It is just an old hotel with a view.

Dirty, unkept and no amenities available/ in working order

Shower didn’t get hot. The Easter was like warm. Had three people in a room. They only gave you two towels. Had to ask for more towels. Room didn’t get serviced daily. Had same towels the entire stay. Limited toilet paper. Again, have to ask for clean towels, more toilet paper, etc.

The room was not well kept up. The door would not lock. You just pushed on it and it came open. One tiny window for ventilation. No air conditioning so very warm in the room. Most people were propping their doors open with chair.

We were never more disappointed after a long drive up the coast and then pay extra for a bayside view from our room and find the window is so bad with dirt between the panes we could not see out the window! Too tired to go all the way to the from office and or change rooms. Very cheated

It's terrible! Don't come here! Worn out, not maintained, falling apart, dangerous. Both restaurants closed down, 1 pool empty and the other one gross. Rusted out railings to beach, (careful), ripped screen, no screen, no A/C inadequate ventilation, only the internet TV channels you get for free with the TV, and that freezes up if you use Wi-Fi. It's just worn out and the pictures for the property are not current. The view is great but the window is fogged out with filth and mold. This property was likely awesome 20 years ago, but has just been let go. A big mistake to stay here, but all looked good online! "BUYER" BEWARE, A real mess. Not as the images and verbiage indicate. I feel cheated.

It's sad to see a multi-million dollar property go from five star to two star. The only thing it has going for it is the view and the staff. Very outdated, needs painted outside, all the tables nightstands are scuffed up, there is no AC, there's absolutely no decor or pictures, The mattress was uncomfortable very firm.. It was a nice place back in 1988.

Maintenance issues, could not close the window, poor cleaning

Excellent location, walkable to all the shops and restaurants at Nye Beach. Property was clean and quiet. Great view! Property itself could use some updating.

Staff was friendly and responsive to repair requests.

The staff was nice and the room was clean. The furniture and paint and decor were all outdated and dingy. There are cracked tiles in the bathroom.

I wasn't very impressed with this hotel. The ocean view and access to the beach, were the only perks

The location of Shilo Inn is great for Newport. It's just a 10-min walk to Nye Beach town, and about a 2-min walk to the beach. There's plenty of parking on the property. However, the hotel itself is very rundown. We had two rooms reserved and they were both in disrepair. Our room had a running toilet and a towel bar that fell down the second I pulled a towel off, and it's lucky it didn't hit me on the head. The walls and floors and shower had a lot of wear and tear. For the amount of money we paid to stay, it felt like we didn't get a good deal. Our daughter's room was even worse than ours with the condition, including holes in the wall and bathroom door. The restaurant in the hotel is gone, and the place just looks unkempt. Also, there's no maid service during your stay. They only clean up the room when you depart. If I come to Newport again, I would find a different hotel to stay in.

The place is run down, dirty and smelled.There was visible dirt on the door, around the fridge, toilet and the coffe maker. I asked for ground floor as I am handicap, they have steep steps that are difficult. There is no as advertised room service or even a restaurant, the restaurant and cafe are closed down. We could not stay so we went to another hotel down the street

The hold building smells like old. The bathroom smells like old. The bed’s very uncomfortable

This place has went really downhill. I stayed here 11-12 years ago and at that time it was a nice hotel. The place feels abandoned. Our room door didn’t lock, I mean didn’t even open with the key card you could just push it right open without using the key card which was a little scary. The restaurant downstairs is no longer there. The room itself smelled like cat pee, it’s so ran down. If we were staying more than one night we probably would of said something but since it was a one night thing we just dealt with it but we won’t ever go back and stay there.

It’s a bit dated but great hotel. Right on the beach. The staff at the front desk was very nice and I was super impressed by the cleaning staff. We didn’t have towels in our room at check in and the head of the cleaning came to our room greeted us and apologized than brought us towels. When we ran into her the next day she asked if there was anything she could do for us. Very friendly polite staff, would definitely stay again just from the staff experience.

Very overpriced for what it is now. The restaurant and cafe are both closed up.

Extremely dated rooms and poorly maintained. No weekend maid service, no fitness center as advertised, only one of the two pools advertised, no cafe as advertised, TV was a computer monitor, remote did not work, Microwave did not work, the one cup coffee maker is a joke.

Had a ocean view room and it was beautiful, beds were comfy and room was fresh. Only recommendations, bring back breakfast and have a ramp to the ocean or somthing easier for beach access, the stairs are a doozy for those with health issues .

Very dirty please do not stay on this property. Its not worth the price.

We had a great experience. The view of the beach was amazing and it had easy access to the town as well as the beach. All in all great experience

The rooms were clean and right on the beach. The only problem we had was the rooms we stayed in had no air conditioning. We did have box fans that we placed in an open window to get some cool air in the room. But other than that. Room and our stay was fine.

Great location and view. Very rundown and dirty. No hot water but I really didn’t want to shower anyway- just yucky.

Staff could have cared less if we were there. Sort of inconvenienced them to check us in or out The facility was in awful condition with no maintenance for quite awhile. I would strongly recommend to anyone not to stay there

The Shilo was a good hotel. It was clean and the staff were great. It's older so it's in need of a few touchups-but we did not hear anyone in the rooms around us and the view was great! We would definitely stay here again. We stayed two nights-Friday-Sunday. No complaints. The shower was great-it had good water pressure. The room was a nice size.

Unfortunately the beds had stain sheets

For 400 dollars a night it was a basic room yes the view was great but the room was just basic the beach access was very inconvenient to say the least would not reserve a room again.

The worst hotel we've ever experienced. Totally run down. Smelled. Everything's broken i.e. window screens, foggy glass Couldn't see the view. Bird crap on the windows. Restaurant was permanently closed. Nothing matched the sale's ads. We couldn't stay there as it was not clean, a complete disappointment.

It was fine until we had a cockroach in the bathroom this morning

The place is in need of some updates, but the location can’t be beat. The staff was very friendly and helpful to us. We had a wonderful time there and would not hesitate to return.
