The Maritim Hotel in Magdeburg is in every way a magnificent hotel. The staff were second to none in their efforts to make their guests feel at home.
For example, I had a small technical problem with the TV. A quick explanation from reception and it was fine. They followed up with me shortly after, not by phone to the room. They personally came to my room on the sixth floor.

I always stay at the Maritim when over for business , this time I was staying for 4weeks and was made to feel like a criminal by the front desk manger Luke’s Dobbelstien he was rude and actually took unauthorised payment from my account without any formal discussion , made me feel embarrassed and uncomfortable as other guest stood by
His attitude towards me was rude and disrespectful and showed zero customer service level of any kind ,
He also chatters away in German to his receptionist who then looked uncomfortable

Overall for convenience close to train main station. It charges 5 euro for using hotel pajamas! Unbelievable! It gives only one bottle of water regardless how many people are in the same room, unbelievable!

Rooms were nice and large but are in need of modernisation. Breakfast was good but at around £20 a day it was too expensive. No tea or coffee in the room and also no irons.

Everything was fine except the elevators need to be updated.

Cleaning could have been better. Pulled out one of the nightstands to get access to outlet and found a pair of lost glasses and an old piece of candy.
Outlets that were accesible did not have power, had to pull out the lamp to have possibility to charge my computer.

The first room we were offered stank. They tried to overcharge us by thirty Euros. The decor is becoming a little tired. Breakfast was superb.

The two best things about this hotel are the location (near the train station and good restaurants/bars) and the pool/fitness/sauna area. The piano bar in the lobby also had great cocktails.

The reason I gave the lowest overall rating is that there was ZERO hot water in the shower. It was ice cold, meaning it was useless. Other than that, the hotel was great. However, an unusable shower is really unforgivable. At its essence, a hotel provides two basic functions: a bed to sleep on, and a warm shower upon waking. The rest is all extra. If a hotel cannot provide either of these two basic functions it fails.

This feels like a business hotel rather than leisure, but we were there as tourists and had a great time. The room was nice and the beds comfortable. The staff was helpful when we had a transportation question. It's well-located, easy to get to from the train station, and near the major sights. The safe was large enough to fit the laptop, which is a great convenience.

Really bad internet availability in my room 459, there was a LAN cable but my laptop doesn't have this, better they make good internet available in all rooms by wifi.
