This was our third stay at La Maison Douce and - as on the previous visits - everything was perfect. The service was friendly and prompt, the rooms clean and tidy. Highly recommended!

Ile de Ré is a beautiful place to visit. Saint-Martin-de-Ré is so quaint and beautiful! The Maison Douce is nice, with a friendly staff and lots of lounges where you can read, visit, and have breakfast. The room we had was very nice, although not spacious.The location is within a minute's walk of the port with all its restaurants, boutiques, and the market (marché) -- not to be missed! The Wifi worked, but might prove difficult to connect to f you are not patient or not computer-savvy.

Cute little hotel done up in old style, so don't expect mod cons - floors are old, doors slam... so can be noisy at times. Wifi didn't always work

Located in the old town of St Martin it’s only a short stroll to the picturesque harbour, great restaurants and bars and some high end shopping. The pace of the town in October was very relaxed. Other small towns on Isle de Re are easily accessible by bike along safe flat bike paths. Staff at the hotel were extremely helpful in suggesting places to eat and visit. Both receptionists spoke excellent English.If arriving by train to La Rochelleits it’s possible to get a bus to St Martin but it’s a bit of a hike over cobbles to the hotel. Better to let the hotel arrange a taxi for you at La Rochelle station (approx 50 euros). Taxi drivers at the station taxi stand appeared a bit reluctant to make the trip.

Lovely hotel, I would however note that it’s not really equipped to deal with young children. Lots of status to the family room we stayed in and open staircase out of the room which was a hazard for our 2 year old twins! Friendly staff, lovely setting

Cramped, noisy and uncomfortable room. Good breakfast and pleasant garden.

The hotel was very pretty and close to the centre of St Martin and the port. Superb for getting around and a lovely peaceful house. Only negative was the darkness of our bedroom, room 11. More lighting needed even with the curtains fully drawn on a sunny day. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return.

Very nice location, within walking distance to all of Saint Martin but still secluded, staff lovely and premises well-kept and beautiful. Truly picturesque and a lush and cozy oasis in town. Nicely decorated room with a comfortable bed. On the downside, the (deluxe) room was quite small with a bath tub in the middle of the room (against a wall) and the toilet in a tiny booth in the corner next to the tub close to the head of the bed, with no sink as it was placed on the other side of the tub. Not ideal for a romantic setting if you like toilet privacy! Also, there was no possibility to take a private shower with the small see-through cotton curtain provided and the water from the tub leaked over the floor. If you are really comfortable with your travel companion and/or ready to use the toilet in the hallway, I would deeply recommend the place anyway!

This is a lovely hotel but it is lacking in ambience and polish given the price tag. Lovely staff and garden. Room was very clean. Things that need improvement - dreadful wifi, cheap linen, terrible terrible lighting in the rooms - no ceiling lights only lamps so really difficult to actually see as the decor is grey and nasty instant coffee only in the room. A few easy things like an honesty bar, a cosy reception room and a nespresso machine in the cosy reception room would make this hotel a stand out.

Pretty hotel in a central position.

The hotel has the French charm everywhere, and the staff was very accommodating. If the mattress didn't slope, I'd give it a 5. Perhaps, other rooms have replaced old mattresses.

A beautiful hotel spreading across two old buildings with a lovely garden/courtyard in the middle. Very tastefully decorated in a style that my wife and daughter loved (it`s a girl thing!). Very welcoming and helpful staff. Superb and extensive continental breakfast. Hidden away in a quiet lane only a couple of minutes walk from the stylish boutiques and the bars and restaurants of the harbour area. A great place to relax and unwind. We should have stayed longer. As with all original old buildings there could be a noise issue between rooms with single skin walls and floors/ceilings. Overall a lovely place to stay.
