It was unanimous for our family of 10 that this was one of the best vacation we had and it was definitely because of the house and property. Everything was more than what we had hoped for. We recently returned from a twelve day stay at Durham-Hythe estate. We had such a wonderful time and can't wait to return! The property was beautiful and exceeded our expectations. The owners are lovely to work with and responded promptly to any questions we had during our stay. The house is very well-appointed and every room was tastefully decorated. We loved the pool which was quite refreshing, the hanging chairs and fire pit in the afternoon/evening, biking along the quiet, flat road, enjoying the sunrise, hanging out on the dock, boating, making smores at night, playing ping pong and stargazing. We made so many fun memories and are grateful for such a wonderful vacation!

We kept wondering if this place could really be as well located and have such beautiful views as in the listing - and the minute we arrived we knew it was true! Our first impressions entering the house were very positive - like one of those home show reveals - clearly a lot of thought went into the decoration and selection of furnishings. There were also fresh flowers and some other welcoming touches. On such a hot summer day, it was nice to feel the air conditioning working at full force, maybe a small thing, but important when you have 9 people in the house. We quickly choose who would be in which of the four main bedrooms and the grandchildren selected beds upstairs in the bunk room. There was an additional room upstairs that we did not use, so 12 people could easily fit in the house. The next day we checked out the pool and it was nice to see such a clean pool and surrounding area free of cracked tile and decking. We took full advantage of the pool, but did not use the sauna or exercise rooms adjacent to it. The dining table is gigantic and wonderful for the full family dinners. When we settled into the seaside room which ended up being where we spent the most time together, we noticed that the view of the water was blocked by some shrubs when we were seated on the couches - not to worry - the property manager sent a landscaper out to trim them back and wow - what a view! The kayak lift on the dock came in handy to access the water and not have to climb over the rocky shore. We used the two kayaks provided as well as the bikes. It was great to discover a Tesla charger in the detached garage to keep the car topped up for the trip home. Just to balance the review, there were a few quirks, but not enough to knock off a star. The tub and shower in the "master" bedroom were in full view - which some people might love, others not. The bathrooms all look like they were recently updated, which is great, but somehow the grout work looks a bit distracting. Yes, you will have to skim the pool each time you use it - there are plenty of bugs outside, but it only takes a couple minutes to skim and then the water is delightful - not too much chlorine. We ran into a couple small issues and I have to say the property managers were about the most responsive I have ever seen at a VRBO property and everything was quickly remedied. Overall, we really enjoyed our week here and will seriously consider it for future visits!

Gerry and Matt provided everything we needed for a beautiful & relaxing family vacation. I would recommend ordering the welcome crudité board for your guests, it was delicious. This was the perfect spot for our family to do indoor & outside activities. The location is perfect for boating, paddle boards, kayaking & just enjoying the property. We would highly recommend this home.

Our group comprised four generations and we booked Durham-Hythe Estate to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday. The house and grounds are picture perfect. In fact, the pictures do not do the property justice. It’s so beautiful! The grounds were immaculate and the interior was cleverly designed to maximize space and function. My mother, who has mobility issues, had no problem navigating around the house. We all loved sitting on the swinging chairs on the deck, and the younger ones enjoyed cycle rides to the fishing harbor and playground, kayaking, and having campfires on the shore in the evening. Everyone’s favorite spot was of course at the pool watching the sailboats and fishermen on the bay. Matt and Gerry were phenomenal hosts and seemed to genuinely care about making our family time extra special. They even sent my mother her favorite flowers!! We are already booked to return for Christmas.

We stayed at the end of May with 5 adults, 2 kids, and one infant. Overall the location is beautiful, but it need some definite attention. Overall we found it did not meet their description as a "luxury" getaway, and certainly was not worth the money spent. If they didn't market it as a "luxury" stay, and if charged half the price - I would have said it was perfect. I'll try to break it into pros and cons. Pros: -The owners are very communicative -The location is beautiful -The owners went out of the way fix everything we reached out to them about -They also went out of their way to find a place for my husband to work since there is very poor Wifi at the house Cons: -The TV and Wifi are **very** bad, they acknowledge this in their brochure but it's worth pointing out. Do no go there if you plan to work at all -The house overall lacks attention to detail: the half of the deck paint has peeled off, the "crab shack" is pretty ick and had piles of standing water full of mosquitos, there appear to be no air filters in the air vents over my bed and the kitchen island and you can see the dust/dirt -The following things were in disrepair when we arrived: broken hammock, broken fishing rods, non-functioning foosball tables -There are no dressers in the bedrooms just closets...and yet there were only 6 hangers in the whole house -There are no shower curtains, just old gross looking shower curtain liners -The pool people came twice but no one ever emptied the filter - we were skimming it constantly until my husband realized the filters were full of bugs and it was fixed after he emptied them -The gym has no AC and was unusuable hot May/June days -Ants all over the house, even in the bedrooms -Oh and this is the weirdest -- no toilet paper holders. You wouldn't think this is a big deal but I found it bizarre that in all the bathrooms you just have to put a roll of TP on the sink. -The whole house was just bizarre -It had the feel of a house that was probably flipped about 6 years ago and has just quietly fallen into disrepair To be fair, the owners communicate well and tried to fix problems. But an actual luxury escape to me means attention to detail. This house completely lacks that. For the money they charge, I would not stay there again.

If you take this house for a vacation, you will understand the meaning of ‘just relax’. We like to see new places, so we take houses for the family often. The special touches that Matt and Gerry put into this house make in one of our best experiences ever. Thanks, guys!

The hosts, Matt and Gerry, are proactive and took care of every single possible detail. Asking for our occasion in advance, arranging flowers and birthday cakes, preparing a custom agenda, and providing a late check-out! This is all on top of a first class house. The house was impeccable, everything works perfectly, very VERY clean, stock with all the supplies (kayak, bikes, fishing, crabbing, swim, sauna, corn hole, badminton, croquet, etc) that kept our hole family guessing what was next! We look forward to renting again and again! Do not hestitate, book with confidence!!

We had a wonderful vacation, and would recommend this house in a heartbeat. It really was beautiful, and there were all sorts of little details that showed that real thought had gone into making this place so great. Everything from a lovely surprise welcome cake (it was my wife's birthday), to a drawer full of microwave popcorn (perfect for movie night), to iphone chargers spread throughout the house. And the owners were easy to communicate with, unbelievably responsive, and just plain great. Highly recommended, with enthusiasm!

The best thing about Durham-Hythe Estate is that you never have to leave the property, everything you need to have a fun-filled stay is right on site. From incredible views, an inviting pool, sauna and workout room, recreational crabbing on the pier, kayaks, bikes cornhole, croquet and countless board games. Our family ages 3 to 89 had a wonderful time and are leaving with lasting memories.

We highly recommend that you stay here. The property was exactly like described and more! As you drive up, you know you have arrived to a place which is heaven on earth! Our stay more than exceeded our expectations. The house is spacious and filled with beautiful vistas. The decor is perfect and enhances the experience. The expansive property creates a feeing that you are on your own private island. The location allows you to savor the sunrises and sunsets and count the stars at night. We were a party of 7 adults, 3 children and our dogs. It was difficult to say who adored this experience more! We made s'mores, kayaked, bicycled, swam in the pool, fished off the dock and caught fish and a crab in the crab trap. We also just relaxed. Accolades to Matt and Gerry for making this a truly wonderful experience. They were easily available to promptly answer any questions. They provided excellent recommendations for dining and adventures. One daughter had to work unexpectedly and needed a quite place with rapid Wi-Fi. They secured her a private business room at The Inn at St. Michaels. She was stressed about the. project but the accommodations made her working vacation seamless. You could not ask for a better experience! We hope to return next year.

Our family of 12 stayed here mid June and it was lovely! You won't be disappointed. Our favorites were the fabulous view, the table for 12, the porch swings, the pool, the games, bikes, the spacious bedrooms, St Michael's shopping, (of course) and more! Many thanks to our hosts, Matt and Gerry!

This property is truly stunning - just as lovely as the photos, if not more so. The house, the pool and rose garden, the lovely and large yard/land, the dock - gorgeous vistas and views from inside the house and out. The property is also incredibly well-stocked: dishes, appliances, games, kayaks and paddle boards, bicycles, two fire pits - we didn't have enough time to take advantage of all it had to offer (so we will have to come back for another stay). Matt and Gerry were so accommodating and helpful - quick to reply to any questions we had about the house and nearby restaurants, etc. Their guide book is a wonderful resource, as well. The house is both fancy and comfortable - we loved the furnishings and decor. We agree with every positive comment posted about this home. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This was a beautiful property with a great location. We enjoyed cooking and dining at this home. We also had a lot of fun kayaking and fishing. We really enjoyed sitting around the fire pit near the water in the early evening. We look forward to coming back to this property.

What a treasure. We had an amazing time. The pool (even in April) was a blast, the sauna at 180 degrees helped to warm up after the dip into the pool and the river. We used the canoes and paddle boards to get around. And cozied up by the fire at night watching the pink moon rise. Wonderful memories. Thank you

Our family of 10 (including grandparents and brother/sister in law) had a wonderful spring break getaway during the covid pandemic. It was a beautiful change of scenery. We loved the sauna., fire pit, , hanging chairs, and chilling on the dock.

From first contact with Matt (the owner) to post check out, the experience was fantastic! The house is beyond beautiful (and super clean) and the property was breathtaking! We cannot wait to go back!!!

This property is amazing and is the perfect getaway. The house is clean, the views are amazing and the owners are great to work with! We can’t wait to come back and visit!

We had a fabulous time at this beautiful property. We loved watching the sunrise over the Bay each morning while drinking our coffee. The property is quite large, and our young children had a great time running around outside getting all of their energy out. It's also a very short (~3 minute) drive to a local play ground, which you can also take a very pleasant walk to get to. Everything inside the home is brand new and beautiful. My wife especially enjoyed soaking in the tub while overlooking the water. Upstairs are a couple of cute bedrooms with small beds for the kids, which included a television and vintage gaming set that they enjoyed. Unlike many rental properties, all of the beds in the house are extremely comfortable. There's also a great exercise room out by the pool, which was great for getting in a quick workout or doing yoga while overlooking the water. The owners of the property are fantastic. They made themselves available by phone and text, always responding right away to any questions we had. We will definitely be back!

I spent the holidays at Durham-Hythe Estate with my immediate family and we had such a nice time. The house was super clean, modern and in a peaceful, remote location with beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay. We particularly watching the sunrise and sunsets each day. The only piece on constructive feedback I have would be to upgrade the oven to be a bit more user friendly, other than that, everything was fantastic! It was the perfect place for all of us to spend the holidays together safely. We have already discussed planning a family trip back in the warmer months, so we can really enjoy all the amenities. Thanks again for a nice week and we look forward to our return!

Our family has been coming to the Eastern Shore for many years. Durham-Hythe Estate is now at the top of our list. The hospitality of the owners, Matt and Gerry, was exceptional. The home is very well appointed. It's elegant yet comfortable, and the amenities abound! Matt and Gerry have thought of everything to make your stay perfect. There's plenty to do there in all seasons. You never need to leave the property. I highly recommend this vacation rental.

Greatly enjoyed it. It was a luxurious way to experience the Eastern shore. The house was beautiful and well appointed. Great attention was paid to details and making us feel welcome and at home. There are a variety of amenities from a sauna and gym to large eastern facing windows to watch the sunrise. The property is secluded and offers privacy but plenty of room to play. The house had plenty of room to spread out. All of the locals were very friendly and out and about and waved every time we drove by. It's also very close to St Michael's.
