Amazing ocean front property with amazing views! Coffee on the lanai in the morning was so relaxing as we watched and listened to the waves. The sunsets were like a postcard photo! The inside was a tiny bit dated (primarily the kitchen) but the property owner is working on it and it’s not bad at all! The property was extremely clean! You had everything you could need in the kitchen. The beds were comfortable. There’s AC! The resort was awesome! The property owner (Kathryn) was such a joy to work with!!! She provided us with so much information and a fantastic stay! You WILL NOT regret your stay here!

Oceanfront views to die for. I don’t think you can rent anywhere that is closer to the water than this. We watched whales every day and lots of rainbows. Sunsets were spectacular. We had a little issue with the ceiling fan (as there is no a/c) and the owner was very responsive and helpful. We hope to stay again next year!

The Papakea property is beautiful and very well maintained. This unit has an amazing oceanfront spot. We saw turtles and a monk seal from the lanai. Even though there is no air conditioning in the unit, once we turned on the fans, it comfortable enough for us. This unit is very well equipped for cooking and there is also a few sets of snorkel equipment, putters, and 2 boogy boards. It was a great family vacation!

This property is an excellent option when staying on Maui. Nicely priced when compared to competition, stocked with the things you would like but can’t bring and don’t make sense to buy for a few days stay (like cooking spices, coolers, ice packs, beach towels, and many more items). We did have a couple things go wrong while we were there, but they were no one’s fault and the owner took care of them quickly. The view from the lanai is spectacular! The resort is taken care of very well (that’s where the daily resort fee probably goes). Meticulously maintained landscaping, clean, pools are lovely and there are things to do when you don’t feel like going out (pools, shuffleboards, cornholes, ladder all) plus daily activities, if you have any time left. We’d definitely look to stay here again if we are lucky enough to visit Maui in the future. Thanks, Sharon!

We just got back from staying at this location and the Papakea Resort is located right by the ocean and this condo in particular has an amazing view from sun up to sun down. The owner has everything from kitchen things to enough towels to beach items. It’s always nice when the owners are willing to communicate with you and Sharon is one of the best property owners I’ve ever dealt with and everyone is very friendly. If you’re going to have a pool day, make sure to get down to the pool when they open at 9, because it is a busy resort and chairs go fast. I loved that you could also sit in the sun by the sea wall. There are some strips of beach along the front of the property and some people were even snorkeling because there is reef right out front. Hoping to come back in the winter because the location of Papakea is a path the whales take according to the neighbor. The convenience of staying in the condo and the location made it a great trip. And check out the pizza place next door Papi Ohana. Amazing pizza!

Location is everything! The beautiful sunrises and sunsets were everything and more. Loved listening to the waves crashing.

We had an amazing time in paradise. Sharon was excellent to work with and made sure everything was perfect for our stay. She communicated with us prior to checking in. The condo is very well equipped with everything you need to make your vacation easy and enjoyable. We do hope to come back in the future!

The location and view from the balcony is definitely the best. The doors open wide for a great breeze and sound of the ocean. The kitchen had all the amenities you needed to cook. Lots of spices. They also had chairs and boards to use for the beach. If bringing small children, the loft is definitely a hazard because the beds are right up against the ledge. So I’d recommend to never leave children alone when in the loft area.

This was our first family vacation all together! It was an absolute dream! This condo was everything and more… our favorite was the ocean view with a cup of coffee in the morning! We also appreciated how awesome Sharon was throughout the process, answering all our questions before our stay and sharing her lovely place! Can’t wait to visit Hawaii again someday! Mahalo

When we initially arrived at the condo, there had been a problem with the cleaning company but the owner was tireless in insuring that the issue was handled to our satisfaction. I have never dealt with a more sincere owner. The condo was ideal for the two of us and later on, our adult son and his wife joined us. The loft was perfect for them and the ocean view is absolutely spectacular. As frequent visitors to the Papakea property over the past forty years, this condo stands out as our favourite unit. We hope to visit again!

We had a girls trip to this beautiful resort. It was a wonderful location and base for all our adventures. The owner was so helpful and kind. She answered all our questions and even helped in planning. She was so helpful when our flights got cancelled ❤️ The town house was perfect and cooled off at night with the breeze through the home. The balcony had amazing views, with the most beautiful sunset over the ocean. Sea turtles we right off the beach! The neighbors were kind and welcoming, and the staff was helpful. Thank you for sharing your retreat in paradise.

Our family enjoyed this place so much. The view was beautiful and the pool helped wear the kids out at the end of each night. We cant wait to come back . Oh and the beds upstairs were amazingly soft and comfortable! It was perfect for our family. Thank you Sharon!

Upon entering the view was fantastic, opening the sliders and the sound of waves, so relaxing. We spent all the time on the balcony enjoying the views. Sunsets were so so beautiful, couple rainbows as well. We slept with the sliders open every night. Nothing like the sound of waves to lull you to sleep. I’d stay there again.

Our family loved our stay in Maui this week. Sharon’s place was perfectly situated for all of our favourite activities in Maui. A/C would have been nice, but the fans and the trade winds made it very comfortable in the evenings. Coming from Alberta, Canada, we loved hearing the ocean right outside our front balcony. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone with family.

I would give a five star review on this property if it had air conditioning. The owner communicated with us very early on but we had no idea there was no A/C. The view was spectacular but our whole family was so uncomfortable with the heat, even with all the fans. This day in age, and after seeing all the negative reviews, the owner really should have AC installed

The views from this property are absolutely breathtaking, and the amenities on the property were wonderful for our family of four. We loved snorkeling right out front, waking to the sounds of the birds and eating meals on the lanai. The kitchen had all of the utensils, small appliances and pots/pans needed to make cooking easy. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

Property is as advertised. We are a family of 5 with children ages 7,12 & 17. The whole family loved the property and the island. Lanai is directly facing the water so plenty of air flow and fans keeping you cool. Property manager is great along with the staff at the resort. Would recommend and will be back for sure.

This is certainly a gem of a location! Oceanfront dwelling doesn't get much closer than this. Our family of four (19 and 17 year olds) absolutely loved it. It was perfect for us. Sharon King was very helpful getting us familiar with the place before we got there and we made use of the four sets of snorkel and mask sets, the two boogie boards, the four beach chairs, and the awesome views out on the lanai. The Kaanapali area is busy, but once you get "home" to this condo unit, you're met with therapeutic sounds of the wind and surf. We didn't mind not having air conditioning. There are plenty of fans to help the trade winds blow through the place. If we get an opportunity to return, we will highly consider contacting Sharon directly to book our stay. Aloha!

Papakaea is in a great location with plenty of family friendly amenities! We enjoyed the pools, Jacuzzi, tennis courts and easy access to the beach. The ocean view from the lanai is simply breath taking! The condo is clean and spacious and the kitchen is well equipped. Sharon was a wonderful host and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We had an amazing time and can't wait to come back!

Our family of 6 loved our stay here! The views are outstanding. We enjoyed the shuffleboard courts, pool, pickle ball and grill more than we expected after one of our kids had an injury and we needed to stay "closer to home" for a few days. Appreciated the snorkel gear and boogie boards that were available, and excellent communication from the property owner. 4-stars on cleanliness because we found a child's swimsuit under the couch cushions and a pair of children's socks (clean) in a drawer. Not show-stoppers. Also, the kitchen would benefit from the same nice update that the bathroom had. Minor points for a really delightful stay. Hope to be back!

This condo was fantastic. My family had a wonderful stay at Papakea. My kids loved the pools, the location was perfect, and the views from the lanai were amazing. We will be back!

The view when you walk in is absolutely stunning. I spent as much time as I could sitting on the lanai. The condo is well-stocked, the beds are super comfortable, and I adored waking up to nature sounds. This place is a wonderful retreat from the crazy busy areas in Maui. It was nice that there was always a place to sit at the pool. My favorite besides the lanai was sitting and watching the sunsets.

only wish the beachfront was sandy. had to walk south to the other end of the resort for the sandy beach. not far though. unobstructed views! top floor quietness. condo had everything we needed. tough to find anything wrong or missing....would easily come back again.

Pros: convenient location to easily explore Lahaina, the North Shore, and the South beaches in Kihei and Wailea. Amazing waterfront and sunset views. Saw whales everyday! Four beds is a luxury at this price point! Within walking distance to many grocery stores, fresh fish market, restaurants and more. Cons: Owner is not taking advantage of the ease of VRBO, which caused some issues for us. Contract is not posted on here, instead she chose to mail it to us, which took literally months before we received it. Also the payments were awkward and not laid out well. Never gave us an access code which we thought would just appear on VRBO like all our other places we’ve stayed at. We arrived at midnight, called the number listed on the contract and VRBO which was incorrect. We were able to finally reach her and she gave us the code and then for the mixup paid our resort fees, which was very gracious of her to do. Somewhat odd layout of kitchen, lots of unnecessary items like 12 cutting boards and a cake-carrying Tupperware dish, but missing thoughtful items like dish soap, sponges, cooking oil, etc. If you’re only here a couple days or don’t plan on cooking much, it would be fine, but for 7 nights, we found it to be a little difficult with the layout, compared to other smaller and more organized condos we’ve stayed at. No A/C which wasn’t an issue for us in December, but probably would be in summer.

We stayed from 5/24 - 6/3/18, 2 adults, 2 children ages 11 & 8. Overall, the place is as described. However, some items have changed and if known, we probably wouldnt have picked this place. The chairs are metal patio furniture. They have cushions, but not comfy. The reclining chair is aged, but fine. The couch is very hard. The only table to eat is outside on the lanai.(BUGS!) too big for the space. It is not the table in the pictures. There is a bar in the kitchen that you could eat at, but the kitchen isnt big enough and you must use this space for prep/storage. As in previous reviews, the kitchen needs updated. Most of the drawers are not on the tracks. The icemaker is VERY slow. The dishwasher is crap. 2 of the stove burners didnt work.(reported to owner) As stated, there is no A/C. We had fans going nonstop and it was pretty stuffy. The days we were warned about closing windows due to "vog" wasnt really an option. There were times that it was just too hot and we had to leave. (and we love the heat) The screen doors would not stay on track, which is unfortunate due to the bugs/aggressive birds. Also, the closet to the washer/dryer was so stuck it was barely usable. (also reported) The beach items were rusty/broken/unusable. The resort itself is fine and probably best suited for older people without children. Pools dont open until 9, which seems fine but we were up and moving most days early (still on EDT) and couldnt use the pools. They also close at 10PM, and they will kick you out if you're there 1 minute after!. While the description says 40 ft from the ocean, thats not exactly true. Its oceanfront, but its 4 flights down and then about 40 ft to the wall. You cannot access the beach from the resort. The steps are caution-taped off. The view is beautiful, but if you want beach access, you have to leave, which we did, every day. We opted for passes to the Westin and used their pools/beach the entire time (open 6a-midnight). The construction noise was right beside our building and LOUD. We signed up for some of the activities & were very disappointed. They were 2 hours late to start! The mai-tai "party" was a joke. The trek from the parking is pretty far with groceries/ beach items. There are carts, but they are only really suitable for luggage. Beware of the concierge sales pitch. (kickbacks!!) Overall, the place is fine, and for the most part as described....but for the same money, I'd stay elsewhere.
