Roma Cottage - Delightful Ropemaker's Cottage In Staithes, Nr Whitby
La cabaña Roma está en la ubicación ideal, justo en el corazón de Staithes, pero lejos de la carretera, por lo que es perfecta para niños pequeños. Staithes es un pueblo de pescadores que ha sido designado con estado de conservación debido a su carácter único y se encuentra dentro del Parque Nacional de Yorkshire. Sus calles empedradas y callejones estrechos reflejan su pasado accidentado. Con su propia pequeña playa de arena, no es de extrañar que se llame "un poco de Cornwall en Yorkshire". Es la base perfecta para caminar, recorrer y explorar la costa y los páramos de North Yorkshire. Whitby está a solo 10 millas de distancia, Scarborough está a 35 minutos en coche y Heartbeat Country está por todas partes. El Camino de Cleveland pasa por el pueblo y los impresionantes paseos por los acantilados comienzan directamente desde la puerta de tu casa.

Staithes is beautiful but very hilly and narrow. The cottage is along an alley which is not accessible by car. This made is difficult to unload and load the luggage and children. Perhaps this should be stated in the description of the cottage for future visitors. The cottage itself is beautiful and well equipped. The only thing i would say is that the carpet nails on the stairs kept stabbing us on the feet whenever we assesnded or descended

The weather was cold and windy while we were in Staithes but the house was a haven of warmth both day and night.
The beds were lovely and comfy and the kitchen was very well equipped.

Roma cottage was ok . We had a nice time walking and enjoying the pubs and restaurants. The cottage needs some decoration in the top attic and the en-suite! Quite drab plus very steep stairs . Double and single bedrooms on lower floor have been recently decorated which are nice but No way would you be able to fit 6 adults in there ! The heating was ok but we thought leaving 5 small logs and kindling was rather mean ! I rent a holiday cottage and I give them plenty of logs . So we had to go and buy them . Needs a clock in the cottage and bread bin old and rusty . Stairs paint work is dirty and dusty . As we expected access to cottage is difficult with the steep steps which are slippery.

Congratulations to the owners on achieving the "Watts Occurring?" 5* Holiday Cottage Award, in the HalfTerm Reunion Category.
A great many thoughtful details, from the welly holder to the labels on the crockery shelves, by way of phone charger sockets and the perfectly solid coffee table for a family boardgame.
Two bathrooms, two sofas, lots of stairs, comfortable beds, an excellent TV, a working washing machine, a coffee maker, and enough interesting games, books, and DVDs to get a family of six through an entire winter. Other landlords, take note.

Really lovely, well kept property. Relaxing with everything you need, and a bit of a tardis as the house is deceptively spacious.
Great location for walking the village and the local beach. Good for going out locally for food. From fish and chips at excelsior to the superb evening meal at The Moorhen - both about 5 mins away by car.

The property is small but cosy, a bit hard to get to with bags and shopping but once settled in it was fine. A couple of good pubs and shops and good walks with the dog would really recommend a few days stay.

Lovely cottage. Exactly as described. Brilliant village to meet friendly people. The Cod and lobster do great meals and take aways. Highly recommended.

Cottage lovely, very cosy, adequate space for 4 adults and 2 children. Hot water can run short if bath is used rather than shower.

Well-equipped and comfortable cottage
3 generations of our family shared the cottage and we had a very relaxing break. Some lovely walks almost from the doorstep and we enjoyed some delicious meals at the Cod & Lobster. Try the sea food platter

An idyllic setting
Really enjoyed our stay in Roma Cottage and fell in love with Staithes - so atmospheric and cottage in a lovely position. Make sure you do the 'Village Walk' to find the narrowest street! The locals were really friendly - especially when we had a power cut! Thanks also to Bridget for sorting out our wifi after the power cut.
With respect to description, I would agree with previous comment that it might be a bit small for 6 people. There were also more (and steeper) steps from the road than I had anticipated (I would have packed differently had I known!) and the back yard would not be a pleasant place to sit. The front was lovely though.
Despite some of the above comments, we absolutely loved our time in Roma Cottage and would recommend it to all - except those with impaired mobility.

Beautiful cottage , clean really well equipped centrally located
We had a lovely stay in Staithes which is a wonderful ..if steep place Roma cottage was great up a number of steep steps , but was clean and well equipped with the most comfortable beds so worth the climb at the end of a long day.
If you want to eat in at either of the two pubs you will need to book well in advance , we were there 3 nights and couldn't get in anytime over our stay however they do takeaways .Overall a fantastic break.

Great cottage by the sea
We were 2 couples, 2 children (a 3 year old and a 10 month old) and a dog and had a fabulous time. The property is perfect for a stay in staithes and had everything we needed (even a high chair and travel cot).
The location is great, right in the heart of staithes. If hills are an issue Staithes might not be for you but we loved exploring all the little paths and alleys.
We would definitely reccomend this place to people and wouod stay here again.
My secret tip would be to try and head up to the bench at the top of mount pleasant (literally 30 seconds up the path from Roma Cottage) for sun down. Its possibly the best view in staithes.

The property is clean, comfortably furnished and well presented. It is well-equipped and situated in a good position in Staithes - close to pubs, shops and the harbour. Staithes is a charming place to stay and the surrounding countryside is great for walking.

Beautiful Cottage in perfect location!
Had a great stay at Roma Cottage! The Cottage was perfect for me and my family - kids, parents and husband. There was everything we needed there, kitchen was equipped perfectly and I love the Nautical theme throughout the house. The location is great and Staithes is a lovely place and a great starting point to explore North Yorkshire Coast/Countryside. Highly recommended!

Good if small fisherman’s cottage. Top floor very cramped - good for 4 adults and 2 small children though. Charming seaside village. Beautiful countryside.

Lovely cottage
Fantastic location but beware of parking restrictions. Residents permit does not allow you to park in the residence car park nor the private car park. The parking is very confusing and we received 2 parking fines in 12 hours, thank god returned to the car during our 4 day visit

Can’t criticise anything about this property or the location. It was charming, very well equipped and peaceful. We will definitely return and would recommend it to anyone.

Homely cottage in a friendly picturesque village
The cottage was clean, comfortable and homely, however, in our opinion the cottage would be overcrowded if 6 adults stayed.
Most of the description is correct but the only use for the back yard would be a space for smoking. Not a place to pleasurably sit. Sitting outside at the front was nice.
A tip for future guests - bare in mind you access the cottage via several steps when parking in the village but the walk to the car park is ok.
We would stay at Roma Cottage again. Can recommend both pubs in the village - very friendly, nice food & dogs welcome.
Lovely to sit by the harbour and watch the world go by or explore the tiny alleyways in the village doing the 'Village Walk'

We had a lovely weekend at Roma Cottage, great location and the cottage is so cosy and well equipped with everything you could need for a relaxing break. We fully intend to come again.

Cosy cottage in quaint fishing village
The cottage served us very well for our stay. We were able to fit quite a lot of sightseeing trips, which meant we were out most of the days. I wouldn't recommend the cottage to the less able bodied folk as it is situated up steps on a high hill. However for us it was fine and cosy to return to in the evening to relax & unwind. Lovely little village and locals were very friendly. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a must to visit. Whitby & Pickering a lovely little towns offering plenty of shops and eateries, some of which were dog friendly.

One incredible week in a cosy cottage in the heart of the romantic old village of Staithes
We wish to thank Bridget and Mark Payton for our lovely stay in the cosy Roma Cottage in the heart of the beautiful and romantic Staithes! We enjoyed especially the art atmosphere of the cottage and the whole village, the feeling which you have in every corner and with every step in Staithes, for the past and the old fisher traditions of this beautiful region! And of course the beauty of the nature and cliffs, the incredible sunsets, the music of the seagulls, singing on the top of the roof of the old chirch nearby. The scones and the tea in the Tea Shope on the hill of Staithes, near the parking place, were fantastic. The weather was also perfect during the whole stay at the wonderful North Sea coast of Yorkshire! We strongly recommend the lovely Roma cottage and the beautiful village of Staithes!

Quaint little cottage right in heart of Staithes
Owners very helpful. Be aware that there is very limited parking in the village, you have to park in a car park some way away although it is possible to load and unload very close to the property. The owners provide a parking voucher for the public car park. Also because of the location this property is unsuitable for those with impaired mobility. Otherwise a very lovely place to stay and would recommend.

Lovely clean and well equipped cottage in a good position.
We have visited Staithes several times and Roma Cottage was arguably the best accommodation we have stayed in. Six of us including two grandchildren but plenty of room for all to enjoy. The en-suite with the top floor bedroom was a godsend.
A few problems getting the heating in the lounge comfortable but used the log burner to get the place cosy in the evenings. Good weather made our stay just about perfect and will surely return.

Lovely cozy cottage in heart of the village.
This cottage is great fined all the rooms are very tastefully decorated and very comfortable the main room has log burning fire 🔥 ( you get 2 warms from the logs one taking the up to the house) we got ours from the garage at Hindderwell ~ we took four grandchildren there we had a great time the captain cook Heritage Centre is well worth a visit ( just to the front of the cottage)

Gemütliches Cottage mit toll ausgestatteter Küche
Wir haben zwei schöne Wochen in Nordengland verbracht. Staithes ist ein guter Ausgangspunkt für Wanderungen auf den Küstenpfaden. Die North York Moors sind eine beeindruckende Heidelandschaft. Die Klosterruine in Whitby lohnt einen Besuch. Uns hat es gut gefallen.
