This beautiful home is spacious with a kitchen I could easily cook for my large family in. There was plenty of sleeping areas to give us all privacy and the beds were comfortable. The property owner was super responsive and easy to communicate with. The view is incredible and the location avoids the heavy boat traffic SML can sometimes have. Lots of options for my morning runs which had beautiful views and wildlife sightings. As others noted, the steep driveway is a challenge for smaller vehicles, but my husband actually loved it in his Jeep Gladiator- LOL! I parked my van at the top and had no problem at all loading, unloading etc. it was not a problem for us but could be for older or disabled folks.

Overall the property was perfect for our needs. The upstairs was perfect for the adults to sit and enjoy each other’s company and the kids/teens played PlayStation and pool downstairs. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans. We have stayed at several VRBOs and this one had the most comfortable beds by far. The view from the deck was second to none. The fire pit was perfect for our group. Yes it was a bit of a walk to the lake but the stairs were well maintained and were easily used. Laura did a great job with her descriptions so we were fairly well prepared for what to expect with the property.

We went for my friend’s 40th birthday so there were a few kids & several adults. The house was really nice. It’s open floor plan upstairs, big kitchen & view of the lake were superb.
However, I think it needs to be made very clear in the listing that this is not a handicap friendly home. It should be go on to state, in depth, how steep the driveway is AND how steep the walk is from the home to the dock/water. Only high vehicles (SUVs & trucks) can get down the driveway; sedans will bottom out. So if you have a sedan, you’d have to park at the top of the driveway & carry everything down the very steep driveway into the home. For your sake, I hope it’s not raining.
The stairs from the home to the lake are nicely done but very steep. My friend that torn her ACL years ago couldn’t get down to the water. For those of us that could go, it was pretty much a one & done trip; we didn’t make any trips back up if we forgot something. Even the kids complained about the walk back up to the house. We also didn’t use the fire pit at all because it’s at the top of the driveway. We wanted to but we would’ve to walk up the unlit, steep & uneven driveway in the dark and we just didn’t feel it was safe to do in the dark.
So, we really enjoyed the house but the intensity of property needs to be made clear. This home would not be a fit for those that are older or not physically fit. I don’t like leaving bad reviews but I want those renting the home in the future to understand the property.

A group of extended family stayed here to gather and celebrate a graduation from Roanoke College (about 45 minutes away). The house was great - clean, comfortable, spacious and a beautiful setting right on Smith Mountain Lake. We had everything we could possibly need in the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms. There are perfect gathering spaces to eat, play and just visit and also plenty of room to get away for some alone time! The only thing we didn't like was the driveway - I highly recommend parking at the top and walking down to the house! We had a wonderful weekend and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and recommend it to others.

We loved our week at the lake...the back of the house is nice and open plan for a large family; the docks were great, and the kitchen well stocked for cooking-loved a 2nd fridge. A few things in the listing were not 'great': the hammock was broken, the lawn wasn't mowed, and there are 116 steps from the water up to the house- a bit of a hike with babies! But we enjoyed the week!

Overall, we were very satisfied with the features, functionality and cleanliness of the home. Only disappointment was the lack of bedding (only sheets were available) which was explained as due to COVID concerns.

Great home base even on a rainy weekend
While the weather didn’t cooperate our stay was great! Easy, good time, and restful. Instructions were clear. Only challenge was wishing there was a sign that said leave cars at the top of the driveway unless 4x4.

Good for a small group. Just note that the lower level bedroom mattresses can be too soft for two people to sleep comfortably but manageable.

Lots of laughing
We had a very enjoyable stay with lots of laughter and good conversation with family members. The view of the lake from the dock was amazing. We had several older ladies and we had to drive them up to the campfire for the evening we made smores. The driveway was an experience like being on a roller coaster and you thought you were going to drive into the house. Some updates to make the showers more ADA- adult disability act- friendly would be nice. Some grab bars around the toilets would be nice to help them out also. Overall a great stay and would recommend any one the house. Laura was great to work with and very prompt on getting information to us.

Beautiful home, great view
The house is lovely and the view is wonderful. The kitchen is well stocked, and there were games, puzzles, videos, corn hole and a pool table. Lots of fun for all ages. We enjoyed fishing from the dock and especially loved the fire pit. Laura is a helpful and responsive host.

Excellent stay at SML
We enjoyed our stay. House was well stocked, a nice welcome kit was provided, and owner was very responsive to questions. House had everything we needed to enjoy the weekend with family and was a convenient boat ride to nearby marina. The nearby community boat ramp was also very convenient. Dock had a beautiful sunrise view with mist on the lake.

Wonderful Memories Made
We just returned from an amazing week at SML. Our group included 6 adults and 4 children, and the house had plenty of space for us all. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you might need during your stay. Because we knew about having to wash the bedding before we left, we decided to bring some of our own sheets along so we wouldn’t be pressed for time when we checked out on Saturday. This wasn’t a problem at all. The fact we had to dispose of our own garbage to a collection site was an inconvenience, but doable. The steps to the lake were a little bit of a workout…for us seniors (lol) but the rest of them didn’t complain and felt they were getting exercise during their vacation. We hope to come back soon.

There were some minor issues at first, I contacted the owner and it was addressed immediately, none of the issues affected our stay as we had a great time. Our daughter and son and spouses were there and we had my niece and her family there who now live in Ecuador.

Friends Lake Trip
This was our first year renting on Smith Mountain Lake and we loved it! We had 10 adults and felt like the house had plenty of room for all of us. The extra fridge in the basement was definitely clutch. The house was very clean, nice layout, well stocked and amazing views. The dock is nice and large so there’s room for everyone to hang out or swim around. The owner provided all the necessary information and always responded in a reasonable amount of time. Would definitely rent this house again.

This was our first trip to SML and we truly enjoyed it! The house was spacious and view of the Lake was amazing! Plenty of TVs so the kids and adults could have separate viewings in the evenings which was a plus! Location on the Lake was great and convenient to the Marina/Bait shop and "land" shopping. Fishing from the on-site dock provided HOURS of entertainment for the older kids. The fire pit was very well done and had plenty of seating for our crew - it was a huge hit!
Some kitchen items were not clean or not cleaned well which was a bit disappointing for how particular the instructions to leave the house/items were required. The requirement of washing bedding/towels and removing trash from the property the morning of check out was a bit outrageous, in all the houses we have rented over the years, never have either been a requirement. This is information and opinion is meant only to give honest feedback.

Tranquil Comfort Nestled in a Quiet Neighborhood
Unwind and Reel 'Em Inn is an immaculate home with modern comforts, amenities, tasteful decor, and a spectacular view of Smith Mountain Lake. My family and I were very pleased with our stay. It was tranquil, peaceful, and restorative, and Laura was very responsive to our communications providing detailed information about the property and nearby attractions like Peaks of Otter and hiking trails. Holiday happiness
My extended family enjoyed our time at the lake immensely. The house is spacious yet cozy, the bedrooms ample, plenty of bathrooms for personal privacy, fun pool table area and the views are top notch, with hills and steps for exercise. Loved it.

Exactly as described, in a lake community/HOA set up but feels very private in the home and in the dock. Note, there are lots of stairs to the dock! Absolutely worth it, but keep it in mind if anyone have mobility issues. Also, basement shower clogs very quickly (daily with 3-4 adults using), but easy enough to clean out once we figured out why it was draining slowly. Beautiful home, great lake to hang out on!

Wonderful Family Vacation In A Beautiful Settings!
The property delivered as promised and offered A LOT of something for each family member! We went swimming everyday, rented a boat from the very nearby marina and had a great time fishing off the dock. Kids didn't want to leave and us grownups cannot blame them! Looking forward to a return next summer.
