The lady who hosted me was very kind and helpful. The room had a small heater, and many blankets, all of which were welcome at night time. For the price, the room and facilities are excellent, and it is very characterful. Very good WiFi too. There is also a small kitchen were you can prepare food or heat water.

I guess if you book to stay in this village, you do so for a reason (I was there for work purposes), it is a small village. However, the bigger problem was finding it in the first place - the taxi driver had some difficulty finding it, and even more difficulty driving up the steep hill to its entrance. If you are a tourist, I would recommend staying in Otavalo.

El Descando was exactly what I needed, a quiet place up in the Andes with a beautiful view of the amazing scenery, including a lake and a volcano. Edwin and his family made me feel completely at ease and really went above and beyond to make everything comfortable. The house is a result of Edwin's dream and he keeps building on it piece by piecem enjoying every step of the way. The house has everything you could ask for, several spaces to take it easy, a fireplace that you can use, a full-equipped kitchen, hammocks, guitars, speakers. And the room was great too, well-equipped for the cold climate. Would recommend to everyone!

The owners of this house were beyond kind and sweet. Their house is your house they said. I wish I could have stayed longer here. It's easy to get the bus at the round about a few minutes walk from the house. Stay here for a great authentic experience out of the city center. Thank you so much for your hospitality and kindness.

The room is fantastic, great bed, super clean and a hot shower. The wifi is excellent too. It has a little kitchen, which is great and essential as El Descanso is tucked away in a small village - bring your food and make yourself dinner. It also has a big room with a fire.if needed, to relax and chat. The owner is lovely and really helpful. A wonderful stay, thank you.

This hostal is like a mountain lodge in the US. The construction is really cool- log beams, stone masonry. The yard has 2 fountains, one with natural stone masonry and plants. There are many plants and flowers which birds (including hummingbirds) come and enjoy. It has a hammock and table and chairs outside. It also has a common room with fireplace and an enclosed deck with views upstairs. It has a small, but servicable kitchen and a sink where you can do laundry. It sits above town, so you get great views and it is QUIET. The name "El Descanso/The Rest" is fitting. The owner and his family are very friendly and helpful. He took me into town so I could go to the markets and picked me up exactly when and where he said he would. He also took me to the bus on my last day. This hostal/lodge gets my highest rating and recomendation.

The owner was always available but never intrusive. I felt welcomed and was able to relax and rest or go town and enjoy a local fiesta. The owner escorted me to the fiesta and retrieved me with his son later that evening so I felt very safe. I will recommend this lovely place!
