The spacious accommodation on the first floor offered captivating views over the Tuscan countryside to San Gimignano on the horizon. The garden with its spacious swimming pool and outdoor eating area was greatly enjoyed by everyone. San Gimignano itself was a lovely town to explore with great restaurants and cafes. And the meal prepared for us by Barbara was very special.

We were a family group of 7 adults and enjoyed an excellent week. The property is located on the family farm in a lovely peaceful setting just 10 minutes drive from the centre of San Gimignano.
Barbara is a fantastic host and was very responsive to our questions and helped us in organising restaurants. On two evenings she prepared wonderful Italian meals for us to enjoy.
The property had all the facilities we required and was perfect for our needs. We would highly recommend.

We cannot say enough good things about Barbara and her family’s villa. We had such an amazing stay here and our kids were begging us to stay longer!
The Villa is even more beautiful than the pictures. The views of San Gimignano and the surrounding hillsides were spectacular. We loved the gazebo area with outdoor dining table and the pool area.
We had unseasonably cool weather which allowed us to sleep with the windows open.
Barbara cooked an amazing dinner for us on our first night and then we did the cooking class later during our stay. These were some of our most memorable moments during our trip.
This Villa is truly a treasure and I hope that we get to stay here again sometime in the future. Barbara is an amazing host and we would recommend her family’s villa to anyone.

We had such a truly beautiful time staying at Podere Lo Spadino and will definitely return!
The home is lovely and comfortable, with perfect and stunning views of San Gimignano as well as vineyards and olive groves. We all enjoyed watching the swallows dancing and at play everyday. We spent lots of time hanging out by the pool together gazing at the Tuscan beauty.
The house is a special place indeed built by her father with wonderful detail. Especially because we were traveling with friends, we appreciated the open floor plan. The kitchen, living and dining room are quite open to each other but the bedrooms felt very private and each has it's own ensuite bathroom. We loved sitting around the beautiful and large dining room table and shared many happy meals there.
Barbara, our host was very warm and attentive in all ways needed but also gave us plenty of privacy. Her family is lovely! Barbara also made two wonderful meals for us in the beautiful outdoor seating area (that also has an amazing view).
The location of the home is excellent for enjoying quietude but also for being very close to the wonderful sights of the Tuscan Countryside.
Podere Lo Spadino is quite a find! (0:

From the moment we drove up to the villa and were welcomed by Barbara and her family, we were not disappointed. I'm very picky and had spent a lot of time looking at reviews, and I'd say that the villa not only lived up to all my expectations but surpassed them. The beautiful views from every vantage point in and out of the house, the lovely and comfortable accommodations, and the kindness and hospitality of Barbara and her family - all made for the perfect place to meet up and make home base with friends and family for our Tuscan vacation. The location was perfect for exploring the area by bicycle or taking day trips into Sienna, Volterra, and of course nearby San Gimignano. We enjoyed several dinners at home, sitting around the big dining room table when it was cooler, or the outside table with the picture perfect views. A special treat was having Barbara prepare a delicious dinner for us and on another occasion, taking a cooking class from her. Barbara was also very helpful when we were looking for recommendations of places to explore in the area. I would highly recommend this property if you're looking for an authentic and beautiful stay in the Tuscan countryside, but very near and accessible to San Gimignano and other towns.

We were a group of four couples
The bedrooms with en suites were perfect for us
The villa resembles a Hollywood movie set of what you would expect a villa to look like.
It’s beyond beautiful with an unforgettable view
Barbara is the perfect hostess!
Highly recommend ordering a few dinners from her
Can’t say enough good things about our stay
You would lucky to stay there!

Terrific location with breathtaking views of San G. Closer enough to bike into town. The house itself is lovely with gorgeous spaces to enjoy both inside and out. Communications with host were fantastic. Barbara was a delight to work with and arranged a wonderful home cooked dinner for us in the villa.

Stayed here for a week with my husband, daughter, son in law and 5 year old granddaughter. The views from every window were spectacular!! Clean with a fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and great outdoor seating area with a brick outdoor bbq. We had our first breakfast prepared for us by the family that lives in the bottom portion of the villa and served at the outdoor seating area overlooking vineyards and olive groves while the rooster was crowing. What a way to start our week!! By the end of the week we felt like a part of this warm and accomodating family that spans four generations. Our main contact person was Barbara who answered any questions we had as far as recommendations. She also accompanied us when we went truffle hunting with her Dad and their family dog Moira. We were thrilled to find truffles!! This host family is native to the region for generations and therefore a wealth of knowledge and connections should you need any... Our week spent here was much more than we had hoped for! We hope to return again!! xoxo Angie

We had an amazing stay at this gorgeous family home set in the hills nears San Gimignano. Our host, Barbara, couldn't have been more welcoming or more kind. The home was built by her father and uncle and the craftsmanship was authentic and beautiful. The photos sold us on the house and yet we were still in awe as we looked around the home and stood gazing out the living room windows/doors. The rolling hills, neatly planted rows of olive trees and grape vines, as well as the city of San Gimignano are all part of the breathtaking vistas that great you each time you gaze out of the bedroom, kitchen, or living room windows.
If you love nature, there are purple martin nests under the eaves of the roofline where we were able to watch the birds teach their babies to fly. It was mesmerizing. There are chickens and roosters as well and Barbara's mother even brought a basket of fresh eggs for us!
The house is well appointed and had everything we needed to prepare meals at home as well as make fresh espresso.
In my opinion, Barbara's father could not have chosen a more perfect piece of property nor built a better house to showcase his craftsmanship, the beautiful Tuscan countryside, or the breathtaking silhouette of San Gimignano city.
There may be other houses to choose from for a Tuscan vacation, but for me and my family, this surpassed all of our dreams and we feel grateful for our time spent here!
If you are considering staying here, just book it right now!

We spent a week at Podere Lo Spadino with nine family members. Words can hardly describe the beauty of the villa and surrounding countryside. Our host Barbara was lovely and so easy to work with. We took a cooking class from Barbara and she made dinner one night for us, which was one of the best meals we had during our stay. Touring around all day, it was so nice to have dinner at home. Barbara’s father personally built the villa and his craftsmanship is impressive. They grow grapes and olives on the farm and make their own wine and olive oil. Soon there will be a restaurant on the first level of the villa. We could have stayed there for a month and still not have seen and experienced everything the region offers. Thanks Barbara for your hospitality!

This beautiful property is a labor of love, hand built by the family and it shows. You couldn't asks for a more incredible location and host. Barbara (host) is friendly and was a real pleasure to talk with. She offers an in-home cooking class and offers a meal service. We took the cooking class and loved it. We made a hand made pasta, a ragu, a very good steak and a delicious Tiramisu. We also took her up on the breakfast option and we loved it. During this stay, our Son took advantage of a beautiful spot on the property to propose to his now fiancée. Lots and lots of wonderful memories made here.

Our group of four couples spent three weeks here as part of a month long trip to Italy. The villa was ideal for our purpose of exploring Tuscany's many hill top towns. Only a few minutes from San Gimingnano, it's central to many other towns making day trips very easy. The pictures accurately reflect the property which exceeded our expectations. What made it even better is the personal touch of our host, Barbara, and her family. She was very responsive to any requests and easily accessible for any questions. We did take advantage of several meals prepared by her and the family. Having a candle lit dinner on the outdoor patio is an experience we won't forget and the food, wine (most from their very own farm) was some of the best we experienced; including Milan, Florence, and Rome. You won't be disappointed. The beautiful views from the villa across the Tuscan country side looking at San Gimingnano in the distance are forever baked in our memories. This was a 5+ star experience.

Our stay at the villa was a highlight of our nearly month-long trip to Italy. The accommodations were perfect; all bedrooms were spacious, the views were outstanding, and Barbara, the host created the best meals we ate in all of Italy. It was a great space to unwind as much as we wanted and to explore nearby towns--Certaldo was a magical place. The villa surpassed all of our expectations!

We were a group of 5 ladies. This villa is very comfortable and met our needs in every way. We organized 2 meals for her to cook as well as the pasta making class. All were delicious, the pasta making class was a fun experience. View of San Gimignano is breathtaking and only 10 minutes away. Even the pool had the perfect view of Tuscany! A amazing vacation in every way. Thank you Barbara, we appreciated everything you did. We will always remember this vacation.

Every five star review is spot on! The Villa is gorgeous and Barbara was the most gracious host. She fed us at 9:30 pm when we arrived late and was very helpful the entire week, answering all questions via WhatsApp very quickly. And the view…pictures don’t do it justice. Don’t hesitate to book it!

The accommodations were extremely great. The owner/family were always available to help with everything. The grounds and accommodations couldn’t have been better. We will definitely return to this property. There isn’t anything that could have been Improved. More than meet our expectations. With a family of 5 and ages that are wide everyone had a fantastic time. Fantastic awesome time!

Tuscany was always on our “bucket list” but our stay at Il Podere lo Spadino exceeded our wildest dreams. Pictures do not do it justice. Pictures can not let you smell the honeysuckle or feel the soft Tuscan breeze blowing through the windows. Then there is the food! The amazing food that is prepared by Barbara, the hostess, is beyond compare. Having eaten in the finest 5 star restaurants around the world, I can honestly say that her meals were a delight to all of the senses & would be chosen every time over a fancy restaurant.
The Montagnani Family are precious people who opened their lovely home to us & made us feel like part of their family. I can not wait to return again. The town of San Gimignano is lovely & the shopping is far better there than in Florence. With world class views of Tuscany from our windows & a lovely pool on site, we never felt the need to wander too far from our home base. 5 stars is not a high enough rating to give Barbara & Il Podere lo Spadino Villa. We will be back at soon as possible.

"Perfetto" is the first word I think of when looking back at our memorable stay in San Gimignano! From our first email from Barbara, whose family built Lo Spadino, to our farewell 1 week later, our vacation exceeded our expectations.
Every view from inside the house and throughout the property was picture postcard worthy.
Barbara's Dad lovingly built their home; and a bonus for us was the "shop talks" he had w/ my architect husband. The home's interiors, bright and airy, reflect an artist's eye.
An easy day trip to Florence and close to the charming, neighboring hill towns, it is an ideal location. And, back to Barbara ... she made our vacation dreams come true!

Words cannot begin to describe the wonder of Podere Lo Spadino.
When we first saw this place we knew it was where we wanted to hold our intimate wedding reception. Living in England, Barbara was invaluable at helping us to plan our special day. Nothing was ever too much to ask and she went above and beyond to assist in everything from recommending florists to providing contacts for transport and musician’s.
The villa itself is outstanding and whilst we had looked at pictures over & over again before our arrival, no photo truly shows the breathtaking beauty of the building, grounds and views overlooking San Gimignano. We stayed at the villa as a family of four but every room was beautiful and would cater well for a larger group.
Our wedding took place half way through our stay and despite a little rain, our wedding day was perfection. Barbara and her family could not have done more to make everything perfect, run smoothly and give attention to every fine detail.
A highlight of our reception was our wedding meal. Barbara is an exceptional chef and she provided us and our guests with a truly special feast made up of five impeccable courses accompanied by the sensational wine which is made by the Montagnani family from their vineyard. It was a Tuscan tasting experience that we are all still talking about and which we will never forget.
We will forever cherish the special memories that have been made here and Barbara, we cannot thank you and your family enough!

Barbara our host treated us like family. Barbara made breakfast everyday and dinner 2 nights which was one our highlight when it came to food. We also had a cooking class which was so much fun and food incredible. I am planning on returning in a couple of years with family when my Grandson is older. Can’t say enough about our stay at the villa and the host Barbara. We were a party of 6 adult family members and spent a week at the Villa. The accommodations were very comfortable and spacious. This family run villa was well thought out for visitors to include large bedrooms with comfortable king beds and nice pillows, private bathrooms and a well stocked kitchen. It is about a 15 minute ride into San Gimignano, 45 minutes to Siena, 60 minutes to Florence. Approximately 4 hours from Rome.
Barbara was so helpful answering all our questions, providing contacts for transportation, restaurant suggestions, arranging menus and meals. Definitely book a cooking class with Barbara! This was by far one of our favorite evenings.
The views are beautiful and we spent most evenings on the terrace. Washer and dryer was great to have and we definitely used it. Book a stay here… you will love it.

We loved our time at podere lo Spadino. Barbara is a perfect host. Greeted us on arrival. Was super nice, gracious and friendly. The villa is even better than expected. Spacious, clean, amazing views.
We had two breakfasts and one dinner prepared by the host and participated in a cooking class which was fun and delicious. The food and wine was all great. We hope to go back again one day and stay longer. There were four private bedrooms and baths and beautiful living space and kitchen. Highly recommend this villa for a magical vacation close to San Gimignano and other great Tuscan towns.

We arrived at 3 a.m. due to airline issues and the wonderful host, Barbara, welcomed us with a smile. The next morning we were overwhelmed with the views of the property and San Gimignano. The beds were heavenly, the villa was spotless, and the location was terrific for trips to Siena, Pisa and other small towns. Barbara is a fantastic cook and gave us a cooking lesson on pasta making with a ragu sauce. Probably the most memorable meal of our time there. It is difficult to express how wonderful the experience was stayng at this villa. You will love every minute of your stay!

Outside/The Property:
Imagine pulling onto a dirt driveway in what seems like the middle of nowhere. Imagine thinking “What have I gotten my family and friends into?” Our group of four adult couples was diverse, two who were used to staying in nicer hotels, and two, there to celebrate a birthday.
We pulled upto a large stone home overlooking vineyards and a the host, Barbara (with whom I had emailed numerous times, all with very prompt replies) was outside to graciously greet our group. The exterior was beautiful, really beautiful with a large clean swimming pool and an outdoor dining space covered with an arbor.
A few times we walked down to the area where they keep their birds and “chatted” with Barbara’s friendly grandmother and even though we spoke no Italian and she spoke no English we seemed to understand each other’s words. She would have a handful of eggs each morning.
Interior: Indoors we found a very wide staircase which led to a large open living space and a fully equipped kitchen. Bonus! The sink faced San Gimignano!
The bedrooms!! There were 4 very large bedrooms, each with its own bathroom!! I were furnished with antique wardrobes and dressers. The beds were comfortable and we slept very soundly with the windows open.
The Food: Our first night we had Barbara make (and serve) the meal as we sat in the cozy nest under the arbor and drank wine (we brought that). What a meal it was! The four courses were made with the family’s farm fresh produce, homemade pasta and chicken. Realizing we didn’t have anything for breakfast we asked Barbara if she would be able to eat there and the next morning we had a hearty breakfast including farm fresh eggs.
Location: We were able to walk to San Gimignano, although you should know there are no sidewalks and being in the country, no shoulders on the road so you do have to pay attention and step off the road if cars approach.
It is about a mile and a half into town mainly uphill but it wasn’t the Alps so not challenging, plus the views of olive tree farms distracted us.
When we chose, Sonia, who Barbara had recommended, drove us into town in a very roomy new (?) Mercedes van. She drove us to and from Florence as well as to dinners in San G.
Recap: Can you tell we absolutely loved our experience? We want to go back and bring our children and grandchildren next time and will ask Barbara to make all the meals.
Bottom line: rent this place! May you fall in love with the property and family

A beautiful home with four bedrooms and baths a large living area with a large dining table and fully equipped kitchen. Scenic views of the city overlooking the fields of grapevine and olive trees. Although out of city Barbara had ample transportation available that took us on daily trips all over the region there was six of us and the vans had ample room. Barbara cooked for us and we had a lesson on making pasta from scratch
We bought some of their wine grown on the property and it was very good. The home had a nice pool if the temps are right. Barbara helped us with reservations and anything else we needed. This was a real delight o spend 7 days at, forget the big hotels and enjoy living the Tuscan dream with Barbara’s family

Our stay at Podere Lo Spadino was the highlight of our vacation in Italy. The house, the view, the covered outdoor dining table, and the pool are spectacular. The house is large, comfortable, beautiful, and charming. The views of San Gimignano and the Tuscan countryside are breathtaking. The house is located a few minutes' drive from San Gimignano and is close to other interesting historic towns and sites. It would be difficult to find a more peaceful and tranquil site in Tuscany.
But the host and owners' daughter, Barbara, was even more spectacular. Barbara is the consummate host who was attentive to all of our needs. She is an excellent cook and she did everything possible to ensure that our stay was restful and enjoyable. The Montagnani family are really lovely people and gracious hosts.
We truly enjoyed our time with friends at Podere Lo Spadino and we are all looking forward to returning soon.

Wonderful host, wonderful views, wonderful villa and wonderful location! We had a lovely week exploring the beautiful countryside and hill top towns. We loved the villa, pool, and the loggia, all with a view. Barbara was so kind and generous. The villa is well equipped and very comfortable and clean. Furnished in a rustic Italian style with plenty of space. We had a bit of trouble finding it because our flight was delayed and it was dark when we got there. We rang Barbara and bless her, she drove to meet us and guide us to the house and then gave us lovely bread, cheese, meat, wine etc from her own produce. Thanks again for your hospitality Barbara. We will be back 😁

Dear Barbara and family,
we had a wonderful stay in your house. The house and especially the garden with the pool were even more beautiful than the pictures. We already miss the amazing view at the pool. Also the cooking lesson was perfect especially the pasta. We‘re happy to come back one time.

We highly recommend this stay. We loved the views, the house, the peace and quiet and the lovely host. The location meant we were close to San Gimignano (10 minutes drive) for regular visits but far enough away to feel in an idyll all of our own. An hour gets you to Sienna or Florence if you need some more 'action' but to be honest it will be hard to tear yourself away from your own poolside. We highly recommend the pasta making class with Barbara - enjoyable and delicious! The only improvement would be to hire a couple if Vespas as parking in San Gimignano is tricky at the weekend. It's good to have something to add next time we visit. Did I mention the views! Thank you so much Barbara.

Splendor in Tuscany
This property is not just a house in San Gimignano, it is an experience for the senses. The lovingly built home overlooks vineyards, olive groves and wheat fields. The skyline of San Gimignano in the distance shimmers in the morning sun. The home itself is spacious and comfortable, from the living room’s overstuffed furniture to the comfortable beds, the supremely well stocked kitchen to the spacious en suite bathrooms. The convenience of an on site washer and dryer cannot be overstated. Nor can the pool, which provided a much needed cool respite for us after long days touring nearby Tuscan towns. And last but by no means least is the villa’s host, Barbara, who made us feel not like guests but like family. In addition to being warm and engaging Barbara is a fabulous cook. She prepared three dinners for us during our stay and they were among the best meals we had during our two-week Italian vacation. I could not recommend this property more highly.

Dream come true!
I have always imagined a perfect Tuscan vacation and this was a wonderful home base to live my dream. Barbara’s family home is warm and welcoming and the view of San Gimignano is simply stunning! Breakfast under the jasmine covered pergola each morning was a treat before our day trips to beautiful Tuscan villages, and the dinnner Barbara made as well as the dinner we made alongside her (cannot recommend this highly enough!) were outstanding. It was truly a perfect week and Barbara and her family were perfect hosts! Grazie mille, Barbara!❤️

Authentic Tuscany Holiday!
We were privileged to stay a week in this beautiful Italian villa built with painstaking love, care, thoughtfulness and attention. Every window was a picture framed with the breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside and the medieval towers of San Gimignano in the distance.
The Montagnani family are lovely and and so friendly. Please do not miss the chance to experience Barbara’s home-cooked meals. The food was all made from scratch and outstanding.
Our host, Barbara is so helpful and friendly. You will not be disappointed!

Beautiful Stay at a Beautiful Property
Our trip at Barbara's home was spectactular. Barbara was the most gracious host we have ever had. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and make our stay the best it could be. She cooked us dinner one night and it was our best meal of the trip. She also prepared a delicious breakfast.
The pictures do not do her property or views justice. The views were spectacular. You could see San Gimignano from her backyard and everything was in close proximity. It was such a relaxing trip and I cannot say enough kind things about Barbara and her villa.
We will be back for many years to come!

Magical!
We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the Villa. San Gimignano and surrounding towns are worth the visits. Sienna and Volterra are highly recommended.
Everything could not have been more perfect. The Villa and surroundings were so beautiful, we all felt like we were living inside a beautiful painting - but it was real! Barbara made us a fabulous dinner the first night of our stay, outside on the gazebo. We had the roasted lamb, and everyone raved about how tasty it was. All perfect and we were very happy. Barbara was always reachable if we had questions, and she was so kind and helpful to each of us. We loved that each of us had our own bedroom and bath. Each room was beautiful. The pool is just lovely. We definitely want to come back without hesitation!! Grazie mille Barbara and family!!

Wonder Villa and Great Host
This is a really lovely and well equipped villa. The views are amazing. The host was absolutely lovely. It is a little challenging to find at first as the road is a long dirt road off the main road. Barbara was nice to meet us and direct us in. It is also somewhat remove (4 km from town) but an easy drive. The villa itself was just as described. The rooms were very nicely furnished. The bathrooms in each were large and comfortable. For three couples, it was ideal. We had a cooking lesson and dinner for my birthday and the food was excellent and the experience really fun. This was a good value and a wonderful stay.

Our family of five spent a week in August at Villa Lo Spadino. Barbara - the owner - was easy to reach at all times and incredibly helpful whenever we needed something. We felt very welcome from day one. Yes the family also lives on the property but this can hardly be felt. The house and the surrounding garden is huge and just incredible. The pool larger than in some of the hotels we have stayed so far just to ourselves. Everything impeccably clean and well kept. The view from the living room or the pool just like a painted picture of a typical landscape in Tuscany. Have I mentioned the 4 bedrooms with their own bathroom each? We had an incredible time there and would return in a heartbeat. Thank you to Barbara and her family

Picture Perfect Place with Postcard View
The views from this property to San Gimigiano will not bore you, they are postcard perfect. From the living room with large windows, the kitchen, the outside patio's and the pool - the super friendly owners made sure you see this gorgeous Tuscan city all the time ;-) . The house is very spacious, every room has there own bathroom, a large living area. Airco's in every room. The pool is an excellent size with nice sun bathing area and we loved to have breakfast and long lunches on the outside patio. Barbara is an excellent host, and treated us to some of her home grown tomatoes, zucchini and basil. Her father has 2 beautiful old cars (Renault 4 and and old renovated Ape), that he proudly showed us. The location is very quiet, excellent for relaxing. San Gimigiano is of course a great place, but getting very touristic the last years. If you visit, make sure you do it early in the morning. We went to a local vineyard, and truffle hunting with a local hunter, which we greatly enjoyed. Also make sure to have diner at some of the local agriturismo's - some have fantastic local kitchens. We can definitely recommend to stay here. Please realize you have to walk down the stairs from the first floor to get to the ground level with outside patio and swimming pool, which can be an issue if you are less mobile. Barbara and family are the perfect hosts!

Wonderful stay
We loved staying at Podere Lo Spadino. The views, the house and pool are spectacular. Barbara and her family are very kind and cooked up a wonderful dinner for my birthday. They live on the ground floor of the house with a separate entrance, we had perfect privacy in the garden and pool and the spacious upstairs apartment. Highly recommend staying here
