This was the perfect stay if you want to see quetzal. We saw 8 of them over 2 mornings! The owner Luis and his family are very nice. The casita was perfectly comfortable for 2-4 people and even had hot water in the shower! Overall we loved this place and will look forward to staying again someday!

Everything was fantastic, the location inside the Biosphere Nature Reserve and the Quetzals. The kitchen was very nice, beds were comfortable and the walk to the waterfall was lovely.
Only the water in the shower wasnt hot.

It is right next to the forrest. If you wake up early you can even get to see the quetzals. Beautiful! The cabin is cozy and well equipped. The property has hiking routes from easy to advanced. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Fine hut, good beds, nice adventurous trail on the premises. Friendly people. Next to cascades.
We didn't get to see the quatzal bird but that's just our bad luck

The location is so charming right next to a lovely river. It is also located at the spot where quetzales are regularly seen, in fact it is where bird watching tours bring people to see one, so if you are looking for quetzales, this is the best place to be!
It was super cold at night and we had to get some extra blankets but were still freezing. Luckily the 2nd night the host graciously let us use a space heater. I think having a space heater is necessary to be comfortable there.

This was a beautiful magical place. The best place to see Quetzal is near an avacado tree right on this property. The cabin is right on the river, walking distance to two restaurants with beautiful patios. The drive from Quetzales national park entrance is lots of switchbacks and you must be very careful. Look for the “unicorn lodge” sign on your left coming down the mountain in San Gerardo. “Casa monge” itself isn’t well signed from the main road. I would recommend this place to anyone, it was fantastic! Dirche, the owner, was absolutely lovey and took us out at 5:30 to see the quetzals. I would also recommend the waterfall hike about 2kms down the hill from Casa Monge- a bit treacherous at times but well worth it, 2-3 hrs total!

The owner is nice and carrying. The kitchen has everything needed. You can see the Quetzal at the location grounds.
Recommend breakfast with view and birding options at Miriams Quetzals, just 10 min up the hill!
A sign at the main road would be helpful.

Lovely, clean cabin with equipped kitchen.
We went to sleep listening to the sound of the river.
Best of all: the cabin is located just a few hundred meters from where quetzals hang out. Ask the most helpful hostess where it is; get up at dawn and go see these amazing birds. Good luck! We have seen several. Wait for them to fly to see the colors and a long tail.

beautiful house in a little village, they have a huge lot where you can go for walks
the wifi is a little bit slow but it doesn’t really matter as there is still mobile data :)

Casa Monge is charming, we got to see a quetzal and walk along the river. Plus it’s close enough to Savegre Hotel, where we got to see the millennial oak tree in the oak trail. Anthony is really kind and a wonderful host.

Perfect little hut. A bit cold at night but there are sufficient warm blankets. We saw several Quetzals nearby. Highly recommended.
Nothing - everything perfect.

This place is out of a fantasy book. beautiful, clean, magical.

Clean and well equipped. it’s really close to an observation platform for quetzals. this means you can probably see them. We were on public transport and the family drive us the 9km to and from the bus on the steep road. The whole family is really friendly and helpful.
if you are a light sleeper, cars park outside the cabin quite early so birders can walk up to observe the quetzals. This might disturb some but we were up early anyway.

-Remote location
-Exclusive trails for guests to waterfalls on the family farm and up to Cerro de la Muerte (warning: this trail is incredibly steep and tiring)
-Comfy beds and blankets
-Quetzal viewing on property
-Riverside view
-bikes
-space to sit outside and bird watch
-Friendly people who make sure you have everything you need
-Functional kitchen
-Substantial distance from other sights in San Gerardo. It's at least 30 minute downhill hike for fit individuals. Further to get to either of the small markets. But worth it for the fantastic location.
-Starting at 5am people park right outside your window to go view Quetzales
-Shower is ice cold, but also refreshing! Common in Costa Rica so not really a big downside.

The location is in a magical valley that's worth the drive. Anthony and his family were there to greet us. The cabina was one of the smartest designs I've seen. And we were lucky enough to see the Resplended Quetzals that live on the Finca (farm). I highly recommend staying with Anthony and his family's cabina. There are delicious restaurants a very easy walk away.

What a fantastic place!
The cabin is very, very clean and there's a well-equipped kitchen with everything you need to prepare your own meals. There's hot water in the shower (it might not seem like it, but you have to open the tap just a little bit to get hot water).
San Gerardo de Dota is up in the mountains and at night it can get quite cold. So make sure to bring some warm clothes. Towels and blankets are provided.
On the property there's a beautiful hiking trail to the waterfall, and there's a great chance to see a Quetzal along the trail in the forest. If you want to eat out, there are some restaurants at a 5-10min walk.
The owner Anthony was very helpful and friendly and was around whenever I had any questions.
Only 2 small things: the frontdoor makes a lot of noise when opening/closing the door. A bit of oil might help.
Other guests parked their car(s) in frontyard of the cabin which blocked my view. For me took away the 'atmosphere of relaxing in nature' when I sat on the bench in front of the cabin.

Everything was awesome. Cutest cottage in the middle of the mountains. Anthony was so helpful, he even took us next day at 6am to find the Quetzales. We were so lucky and saw a female and a male.
It's a bit chilly but there's plenty of extra blankets.

Lovely place in a little valley. The cabin has all you need, but the town only has a VERY small store to buy foods. If you're planning to prepare your own meals, make sure to stock up on groceries on the way to San Gerardo de Dota. There are some trails on the property - during one of our hikes there we saw a quetzal (see Image). Highly recommended!

There is a quetzal pair on the property and we saw them on the little trail to the waterfalls. Host was friendly and most helpful in showing us where to find the quetzals, but we ended up finding them up the trail from where he normally finds them. The cabin was comfortable and had everything you needed to make meals. The kitchen had an amazing glass window that looks out over the creek. Very good deal for the price. We very much enjoyed our stay.
The road down to the cabin was a bit steep, but doable.
