Everything was amazing. As others have said, Sarah is a great host and helps you find everything, schedule excursions and make local recommendations. All five star. The road up the hill is admittedly an adventure so double check the tires and bring a decent 4-wheel drive vehicle (like the local version of the 4-Runner). But it's very doable and the views are worth it. Lots of animal visitors, including the semi-resident pisote, Fred. You'll love the excursions; we did Corcovado National Park, surfing lessons, Chef Willy visiting for brunch, and Nuayaca Falls horseback riding. All solid recommendations. Driving in Costa Rica wasn't as challenging as we'd heard. But mostly the house and pool are just great, as is the food locally.

Lovely house that was perfect for our family! Lovely large patio with lots of seating and great view. The pool was refreshing and tons of fun for our 10 year old grandson.The kitchen had everything we needed and the laundry room was a real plus.
Sarah is such a gracious host and was always available for questions. The roads a challenge but we managed.

I thought our vacation would start when we arrived in Costa Rica however Sarah make the planning process so easy it was like vacation already started. She helped plan everything from getting to getting a rental car to get to the house to planning AMAZING excursions. The hardest part was getting up the mountain to the house which was guided the first time. The house was GORGEOUS, clean and well equipped. It was everything we expected plus some. I would highly recommended!!

We had an amazing stay here. Sarah and Mark are excellent hosts. Book this and follow Sarah’s recommendations. She knows the best guides for excursions and we enjoyed the ATV and Corcovado tour she arranged for us. Dinner prepared by chef William and Elisia was delicious. Sunsets were different every night- but don’t forget the mornings- I was up early to enjoy coffee with the toucans and all the many birds. You will love staying here! Thank you Sarah and Mark for a great stay.

Sarah (owner) goes out of her way to make sure your experience is pleasurable. We stayed over Christmas, the weather was great, only one rainy day.
You definitely need 4x4 to reach this house. The house is pretty isolated up on mountain but my oh my, the views including the sunsets are amazing.
On the not so good side, the jacuzzi tub was missing pipes/faucets, the hotwater heater wasn't working properly, the whale tail fountain at the pool was inoperable & the washing machine broke. There is only A/C for the bedrooms, we unknowingly set the temp too low (not having used a wall mounted system b4), were scolded a bit by Sarah. Some outdoor lighting did not work during our stay. All trash needs to be driven in your vehilce approx 10 minutes towards the bottom of the mountain.
That's a very specific knit-picky list and overall didn't affect our great stay. When we notified Sarah of the hot water issue, we got an odd response- oh, hmm, that's never happened before. Then an awkward long pause as neither of us said anything - did she think we did something wrong? We just wanted enough water to shower. To her credit, there was an immediate response & the problem was rectified that evening.
The house is a legit 4 hr drive from the San Jose Airport, plan accordingly. Sarah communicated extensively with our party throughout the stay. Every (Sarah) booked event was as advertised & top notch. Having her chef prepare us dinner the first night was great.

Our hosts, Sarah and Mark, were incredible. They helped set up all - ATV, Zipline, White Water rafting, and Adventure Tour at Corcovado National Park - all our tours/activities, such as FUN.
The best part was returning home to Casa Cola Ballena. We lived at this incredible home set in the mountains and overlooking "Whale Tail" Beach for eight glorious days.
It was an unforgettable trip, and now we have two forever friends in our hosts, Sarah and Mark.

If this property is available, book it! It is stunning, safe and impeccably maintained. The home is gorgeous, the view is phenomenal and the furniture and bedding is so comfortable. The kitchen has everything and more. Bathrooms had everything with many amenities in case you left something at home. Sarah and Mark are the best. They were so accommodating, communicative and just the kindest. We felt right at home. Many times, we just stayed and relished the tranquility of the home and its surroundings while lounging in the pool.
We visit Costa Rica frequently and have found our favorite place to stay.

We had a wonderful stay with huge thanks to Sarah! She helped us secure a rental car and planned all of our excursions for us. We loved the ATV Tour, horseback riding to Nauyaca Waterfalls, and ziplining the most. We were late arriving and Sarah offered to get a pizza for us and some breakfast food - a big help! The house is beautiful, especially the view. We enjoyed hanging out there and relaxing by the pool. Chef Willy, also lined up by Sarah, was a delight and provided a fabulous meal for us. We also enjoyed Mosaic, Los Laureles, Jolly Roger, and feeding the monkeys at La Parcela ( definitely BYOBananas as Sarah suggests). The house was perfect for my family of five. I can't recommend it highly enough. Thank you, Sarah, for an amazing experience and adventure that my family will never forget!!!

This is a great place to stay no doubt. Beautiful view, pool, house and setting. The price point is great as well and you will make some great memories. Highly recommend to stay here and we can't to come back. I haven't even got to the best part which is Sarah the host. She is amazing, very responsive and helpful with anything you need. Book this property as you will not be dissapointed and will have an awesome experience.

Check in/out was super easy and Sarah was an excellent host. She helped us with anything we needed. When we arrived, she met us in town and we followed her to the property. Dirt road to the property was exciting with views of the mountains and jungle. Definitely need 4 wheel drive to get to the house as Sarah suggested. Beautiful house and the views were amazing. We enjoyed the pool daily. House was very clean and the outdoor shower was really nice. We would definitely stay here again.

We cannot say enough good things about Casa Cola Ballena! The house and location were great but what made our vacation special was Sarah! Sarah made all our reservations and helped us with the many questions we had everyday! The ATV tour, Corcovado, Ziplining, and chef Willy are a must! We saw wildlife everyday and Sarah always helped us with restaurant reservations and questions. When we arrived to eat somewhere, it was like we were family! The road to the house is tricky the first time or two but after that, it’s fun!

Can’t say enough good things about Casa Cola. The view and wild life were amazing. It had everything you could want. The grand kids would spend hours in the pool. Sarah and Mark were amazing help.Their recommendations were perfect. Sarah made reservations for for our excursions and restaurants. She kept track of them and would keep us informed what we had planned for the next day. Don’t want to miss the ATV ride, Corcovado National Park, zip lining, and massages. Chef Willy is a must. He cooked for us 3 times. The people of Costa Rica are great. They are helpful and courteous. They know how to take care of their environment. Never saw any trash along the roads or beaches. We would have coffee, pastry and fresh fruit on the deck every morning, while taking in the view and wild life. The road going up to Casa Cola is tricky. Four-wheel drive is a must and driving it in a down pour is not pleasant. We are already missing Casa Cola, Sarah, Mark, the people of Costa Rica, and the country. And we have only been home a few days. Would absolutely recommend it, and we would definitely go back to paradise. We’re their for 4 weeks enjoyed every day of our stay.

Casa Bellina Cola is perfectly positioned on the side of a mountain nestled amongst lush vegetation and flowers. The views are vast and beautiful! The house and grounds are clean and well maintained. Sarah the house hostess is kind and welcoming. Sarah took care of our every need. She booked our excursions and even a private chef to cook dinner! We highly recommend this house!

The house is everything you could ever want in the Costa Rican property. The pool, views, hammocks and viewing Deck are all amazing. The kitchen is well equipped. Beds are super comfortable and air conditioners are cold. Host is super nice and available to help in anyway you might need. You will need 4x4

My parents loved visiting Costa Rica; after they died last winter, we committed to checking it out, to scattering ashes in the ocean, to see it for ourselves. It was maybe the greatest "gift" they left us.
And, Sarah did absolutely everything she could to make our adventure flawless. I can say, without question, this was one of the best weeks of my life, largely due to the kind, patient and generous attention we got.
Don't speak Spanish well/at all? You can count on her to iron out the misunderstood details, always making sure we knew where to be and when, managing all the pmts and communications.
Unsure which adventures might be best for your group? Sarah knows the best coffee guy on the mountain, the most knowledgeable guides for Corcovado, the funnest local "Cheers", the best Argentinian food, dinner with a view, lunch with monkeys.
Want to hang out at the house? You will NOT find a better view - any time of the day or night, any kind of weather. I guarantee your jaw will drop the first time you walk up to the outdoor patio area, and look out over the jungle, to the beloved Whale's Tail, and the Pacific Ocean beyond.
If a 6 star review was an option, Sarah would definitely get it.
NOTE: Our only 'regret' was that we didn't get to meet Mark as he was out of town during our visit. The next time I'm "in town", I'll make it a point.

Our family enjoyed our stay at Casa Cola very much. Everything was absolutely beautiful and Sarah did an amazing job planning our stay. She helped us with the car rental reservation and even suggested some great tours, which we also booked through her. She was always available to answer any questions about the area and had the best restaurant recommendations for us as well. The home itself is extremely comfortable and the view absolutely breath taking. We had no bugs at all and saw lots of toucans daily. We will definitely be back! Thank you Sarah and Mark! Pura Vida

Spent a week at this amazing house in the clouds. The only way to get a better view of Ballena beach, the whale tail, would be from a plane. This house has everything you need to make you feel at home. just bring your groceries. We literally saw 6 Toucans in the same tree one morning as well as Coati’s, monkeys, Toucans, Aricaris. Currasows, etc. the road to the house is steep and bumpy. Believe it when they say you will need a 4WD vehicle. Sarah works hard to make sure guests have what they need and enjoy their stay!

There are no words to describe how amazing our stay was. If you are considering renting this home…. DO IT! The house was in a perfect location, wonderfully decorated and the view was absolutely priceless. We enjoyed coffee on the deck overlooking the whale’s tail and lounging by the pool. We found ourselves wanting to just hang out at the house. We even spotted some local wildlife from the deck. The house had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable.
Sarah and Mark were beyond great! Sarah was kind and patient with all my questions and left no detail unhandled. All of our activities (booked by Sarah) were fun! Her insider scoop and relationships in the town were invaluable. Corcovado, off shore fishing, ziplining, horseback ride to Nuayaca Waterfall and of course the ATVs….we fit it all in. All our excursion guides were knowledgeable, kind, and did everything possible to make our day perfect. Sarah booked us the best of the best for all our activities. Sarah was on point on all her restaurant recommendations (Gusto!, Seba’s, Mosaic and Sibu were some of our favs!) and Chef William’s food was scrumptious! A perfect idea after our day at Corcovado. Mark and Sarah were always available when needed and were so helpful with troubleshooting anything that popped up. They made us feel like family. This trip topped our vacation favorites!

The vista is amazing. Sunsets were great and house well set up for enjoying the view, relaxing, played cards each night outside with our kids. Essentially no bugs (this was a big deal for my 16 year old who really hates anything flying). Sara the property owner was super helpful, immediately responsive. All activities were fun. The drive up to the house the only challenge but worth it 100%!!!

The view from this property is amazing. the property itself is great. Sarah was a great host. We did several excursions and none of them disappointed. Snorkeling Cana Island was great we saw whales, Dolphins, Rays, Sharks, turtles, sailfish jumping and lots of others. We did the ATV coffee tour and had a great time and a great cup of coffee. The massages she had lined up was one of the best I have ever had. If I didn't have some many places I want to see I would be coming back.

We stayed here as two couples. It’s a bit of a drive up a dirt road but the view makes it all worthwhile. We really enjoy spending time on the lovely deck and pool area. Saw toucans and a friendly coati! We cooked quite a few meals in the kitchen and it was well-stocked with pots and pans and even a large spice rack.
The owners were extremely quick to respond to any concern or question and were also helpful with booking some fun activities. Our favorite was the waterfall rappelling.

This was our third trip to Costa Rica and our second time staying in Mark & Sarah’s house. The house is perfect inside and the views are amazing. What really brought us back, though, are the hosts. Amazing stay at Casa Cola Ballena
The homeowners Sarah and Mark went out of their way to make our trip as smooth as possible. They helped us arrange our car rental, private chef and multiple tours. The house itself was perfect for my wife, 3 younger kids (8,6,4) and me. The view from the house is unbelievable. Perfect whales tail view and blue ocean as far as the eye can see beyond it. Uvita and the people there are fantastic.

55th birthday vacation
Sarah is absolutely the best host. She provided excellent information several months before we arrived. Booked all of our excursions, dinner reservations, SUV etc and quick to answer any of our questions. Stayed in contact during our stay and gave us orientation to their amazing home.
Stayed up first night to assure we made it safe to the house.
The house and view are spectacular. Photos can’t do it justice. We were amazed everyday of the wildlife and landscaping around the home and in the jungle. We conquered the road daily, not bad once up and down a few times.
This was first time my sister has been out of the USA and I am grateful she experienced Costa Rica, Sarah and Marks home and experienced such a great host. oh almost forgot the massages were incredible. Thank you Mark and Sarah for a lovely vacation.

Amazing Property and Hosts!
We echo all of the other 5-star ratings of Casa Cola Ballena, especially Sarah and Mark's exceptional concierge service, also known as the "secret sauce"! The online pictures do not truly reflect how nice the house is and how beautiful the view is. Sarah booked some exciting excursions for us, and we were glad we took her advice and had Chef William and his wife prepare a scrumptious dinner for us after our long and rewarding day touring Corcovado National Park. Due to a delayed flight that shortened our stay for one day, she also worked her scheduling magic to fit in everything we hoped to do while in the Uvita area. Thanks again Sarah for making our vacation even more special and relaxing!

What a wonderful Vacation!!!
If I could give this place a 10 I would!! The view is amazing and the entire house is perfect!!! Spotlessly clean, all the supplies you’d ever need. Sarah and Mark went above and beyond helping us plan all of our excursions and have truly thought of everything, plenty towels and linens, spices and oils in the kitchen and condiments in the fridge. We done the ATV trip, Costa Canyoning and private chef that Sarah recommended and they all exceeded our expectations. This was our second time here and we plan on returning! This was hands down the best house vacation rental experience we have had, from soup to nuts. First, the home is amazing- beautiful clean pool, incredible ocean and jungle view from the deck. Sarah and Mark are friendly, gracious hosts and readily available to help out or answer questions. I am used to planning out my vacations in detail but we took advantage of Sarah’s offer to help and I highly recommend letting her. She gave us a list of recommended activities and arranged things so that all we had to do was show up- canopy zip line tour, guided tour of Corcovado national park (incredible), horseback ride and swim in a beautiful waterfall, ATV tour, all very high quality adventures we loved, and a lovely local gentleman to cook dinner for us at the house one night- which was another highlight. We certainly will keep in touch with the hosts and hopefully be back soon!

Amazing view and property in Uvita
My family of four along with friends stayed here for 6 days. Tough to beat the unreal 180 degree ocean and perfect whales tale view. The incline up to the house is a little unnerving, but you can't get this kind of view without it. There were a couple challenges with the water while we stayed but Mark and Sarah had very solid communication and worked towards addressing that and any other concerns immediately. The house had a nice layout and included a washer and dryer that we put to use. The exterior had a nice big patio area, pool and mature landscape. We would stay here again on a future visit.

Most beautiful view and fun time!
This property has a view more beautiful than anywhere we have been! Each sunset we took in over the Pacific Ocean in the jungle hearing the sounds of nature was a gift and a painting within itself! Sarah and Mark were the most helpful hosts and helped organize our excursions and secure a 4 wheel drive rental car necessary to get to the house and throughout many Costa Rica’s roads. This was by far one of the best trips our family has taken! Better than the pictures can capture, we will never forget this little bit of heaven this rental has to offer❤️

A Week is Too Short
Wow! where to begin. Our amazing vacation started long before we arrived. Sarah and Mark gave us lots of information about things to do. We looked over everything and told them our plans and Sarah booked everything for us. So we arrive in Costa Rica and start the drive to the house from the airport. We knew we would get in after dark and just want to settle in and so Sarah offered to get us some food for breakfast the next morning and even ordered us some pizza and picked it up for us on our way into town. The ride to the house was incredible! Up a dirt road towards the top of the mountain. Although steep, the road was well traveled and maintained. The house itself was perfect and the view could never get old. We made a few modifications for having a one year old with us and everything was great. Sarah had a pack n play that we used so we didn't have to travel with one. Since Sarah booked everything for us, all we had to do was show up to our activity and not have to worry about a thing. Everything went smooth. Sarah was always available to answer questions or send directions to places we wanted to go. From before we arrived all the way till we left, Sarah and Mark were amazing hosts. They are genuine people and want each of their guests to have an incredible experience in Costa Rica which we did.

Better than the description!
Sarah and Mark went above and beyond any VRBO host we have ever stayed with. The house was better than the pictures. Sarah was available daily to help with all international/domestic needs. The WiFi was amazing with 4 laptops going at once. We would HIGHLY recommend this VRBO.

Unforgettable Sunsets
Location location location...
Great whale tail view, day round sunshine and fantastic sunsets from a wonderful deck in front of the house. The road uphill demands a 4x4 vehicle but the height provides a cool breeze and pleasant temperatures, also at night. A fine place to stay and enjoy Bahia Ballena.

Most amazing sunsets
We will never forget the sunsets over the Pacific with a view of the whale’s tail. The house was perfect and the hosts, Mark and Sarah, were awesome. We were very happy with their recommendations for activities and restaurants. We enjoyed the morning visits from the passerini’s tanager, toucan and palm warbler. The coati taking his afternoon stroll across the property delighted all of us.

Beautiful Serene Super Fun Spot!!
The property is incredible, the hosts are fantastic, the views are beyond beautiful and the layout is spacious. The pool was magic - we had a hard time leaving the property to see other areas it was that nice!
