We had a wonderful stay at Happy Hours! I’ve listed some positives and negatives below. Overall, the house was wonderful and the negatives would definitely not deter us from staying here again. Positives: the location of Happy Hours is perfect! It’s easily within walking, biking, and driving distance from the central Surf City area where there are several great restaurants and shops. It’s also just a short walk over to the beach and has a great ocean view from the top deck. We had one little hiccup with linens being delivered on our arrival day but we were able to reach out to Ed and he very quickly resolved our issue to our satisfaction. The house was packed with everything you could possibly need for your stay (bring your own food and clothes and you’re set!). There are plenty of beach chairs, boogie boards, bikes, and even a wagon to haul your stuff to the beach in the activity building. There is a luggage elevator which made arriving and leaving much easier! The kitchen is fully stocked with every dish and cookware item you could need. The decor and atmosphere in the house are perfectly beach themed, making this whole house the perfect beach getaway. That being said, there are a couple of negatives that I feel should be mentioned just to possibly improve future visits. There are smart TVs in every bedroom and in the living room (5 total) and the TVs are already signed into Netflix, Hulu, and Sling. However, you can only view Netflix on 2 TVs at a time. It would be nice to make the cheap upgrade to add 4 more TVs so all guests can watch TV at the same time. This was only an issue for us at bedtime so again, not a deal breaker by any means. Overall, the house could use a few upgrades/repairs. The kitchen faucet as well as a few bathroom fixtures are a little rickety. There’s a swivel/rocker chair in the living room that is definitely on its last life. And the biggest negative for us was not having on-demand water heaters at each bathroom. When we all (7 of us) came in from the beach each evening and needed to take showers before dinner, many of us ended up taking cold showers. I think this upgrade would make the biggest improvement to the property. Overall, we had a great experience. We would definitely stay at Happy Hours again!

We could not have been happier with the house, location and all the amenities. There was nothing we needed that was not provided. Kids and adults had a wonderful time! We would return without question!!!!

Great location, great atmosphere, home was very nice. The host, Ed, has thought of everything that made our experience very enjoyable and always responsive prior to our stay, had no need to contact Ed during our stay, always nice for all.A few things to note, regarding the nice to haves or extras. Lots of beach toys are already available with this house, loved the corn hole on the beach and getting them there was a breeze with the fat tire beach cart. No need to bring beach chairs there is a great assortment to choose from and use, all in decent condition, paddle and surf boards. Lot of boogie boards for younger kids 10 yrs and younger. You will need to bring boogie boards for older kids or adults, just an fyi. The Shibumi was a wonderful surprise and worked great since our beach umbrellas were not up for the strong breezes. Lots of bikes, only two are in working condition, again a nice to have. We rented 3 bikes to compliment the 2 that worked. Call ahead if you do plan to rent bikes to make reservations. We had to get our bikes from two different bike rentals to get 3, not a big deal but in peak weeks of June and July I suspect we would not have gotten any bikes without reservations. Might only need a bike pump for the other house bikes to work, all but two had flat tires, there was a hand pump but the connector to inflate the tires was inoperable. All of this is meant to be an fyi certainly not a complaint since most hosts do not provide all of these extras.Grill was in great condition and clean.House to beach is maybe 50-60 yards.The layout of the house is great, loved the multi-level decks and the high chairs were great. With no house across the street you pretty much have an on the beach view. The photo on VBRO really does not do the actual view justice. All the surrounding houses were nice as well.The house is close to the shops, bars, surf city pier, and restaurants but far enough to not have to experience any of the congestion. Maybe a 10-15 walk or 4-6 minute bike ride. Definitely suggest going out onto the pier at least once, only a dollar a day per person and lots of fishing action to watch, day or night. Whole family loved our stay and did not hesitate to give this house and vacation two thumbs up which includes two teenagers and college age kids.Thanks Ed for the memories!!

Everything you need for a family vacation

We absolutely love staying at this property. It is in a great location and within walking distance to all of our favorite spots in Surf City. Beach access is right across the street. The kitchen is well equipped and spacious. We also really enjoy the decks and the hammock and sitting area on the carport. This is definitely on our list to rebook later this year.

This was a very nice place. We watch the dolphin every morning from our deck and all of the birds pelicans and seagulls diving. We also enjoyed walking along the beach to the pier and then visiting the fractured prune and the bagel place. A highlight was going to the aquarium. So much to see and our 12 year olds were fascinated by the whole place. One of our descendants was stationed at the fort near there. Best meal out was The Shucking Shack. The shrimp and grits were Unbelievable. For 2 o’clock it was very busy but glad we stayed out the wait. We had Thanksgiving dinner in and found all the cooking equipment was there for us to use. The kids lovedthe bicycles to ride on the beach. Thank you for a wonderful time

This is a beautiful home with beautiful furnishings. It’s second row but has un interrupted views of the ocean from both decks. It also has a wonderful outdoor hang out area.

We came to the island for a family wedding, decided to stay for a full week, and this rental was absolute perfection for our needs. We did not need our car, our adult children either skateboarded or rode bicycles wherever they needed to go. The view was amazing and ease of access to the beach was wonderful,

The location is amazing! We loved where the house was on the island. The house is very beautiful and cute. We were very comfortable and happy. The outdoor shower was a great plus. We would definitely return

What a wonderful house and location for a beach get-away! You'll find a 2 minute walk to the beach right across the street, plus an unobstructed view of the ocean from the house and double decks. There were dishes and flatware, knives and glasses, small appliances and large stainless ones with great "bells & whistles!" Nothing has been forgotten for guests' comfort. The cargo elevator at ground level stops on all floors for easy unloading (just be sure to get the directions ahead of time)! It rained most of the time my family and I were there the first week of August, but the grandkids all agreed we should come back next year.

The property was perfect for our stay and was very close to the beach. I plan to stay here again!

We had a wonderful stay at Happy Hours! Our family loved it and Ed was great to communicate with throughout our stay. The house has a clear view of the ocean, the house was really clean and had all of the amenities. We especially loved all of the activities and toys included in the activity shed. We will stay here again in the future!

Ed helped us secure our trip, we were used to air-bnb. This stay was everything we could have hoped. We had issue with the gas grill but everything else was what they said it would be. They provided boogie boards, chairs, tether board checkers so much i cant list. I respect them, so, much. The bed were comfortable, everthing was impecably clean. They said complete kitchen and they were true, glasees for evey ccoktail and almost any meal you could think of, even a crocpot. They were so truthful of the ammenitiets they made our stay awesome and anyone would feel great having a vactiontion here. The home literally away from home, thank you Ed and Family!

This was our second time staying in Surf City and decided to rent Happy Hours. We were not disappointed. We truly enjoyed this property. The location was perfect for doing a day at the beach or walking down to grab some tacos or taking a stroll across the bridge. The property owners provided plenty of beach accessories that we could use, the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed, and there were so many places our small group could hang out at the house. The only issue we had is that the code on the lock to the beach access (which is shared access within the neighborhood) would get changed and so there were times that we'd have to walk down to Charlotte Street to access the beach. Overall, we would stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful place to enjoy our time.

Nice owner great place to stay

Owners were awesome-generous and responsive. A hidden gem.

This was one of the best Family trips we ever had, thanks to Ed and Pat’s generous offerings of activities for people of all ages. The house is comfy, with everything you may need to have a good time, and the location is fabulous. Pat and Ed were also very prompt to assist and provide tips that enhanced our stay. We all agreed we want to go back again and again!

Super cute beach house located directly across street from beach with great view. Very nice decor and lots of fun beach toys available to enjoy in the shed. My only issue I was told there would be beach towels provided but they were not. Wasn’t too big of a deal because my instincts told me to bring some on our trip just in case. Highly recommend this property! You will not be disappointed. My family and I loved the location!

This property is amazing! 2nd row, but no house in front to block the view and sound of the waves. Easy, direct access to the beach. Separate 'kids' floor means the grownups have a calm space upstairs. Kitchen is completely stocked with all the basics for cooking, grilling and taking care of a large group. The 'play' shed has EVERYTHING! Kayaks, paddleboards, corn hole, surf boards, floats - you name it. Will definitely come again!

This is a beautiful property and location. The house is spacious and perfectly located with beach access steps away. We have never stayed in a rental that provided so many activities and amenities and outdoor seating options on all levels. We would definitely make a return trip.

This house has everything. Great owners that are unbelievably gracious and have thought of everything and I mean everything. The walkway to the beach is brand new this week and perfect. Kitchen supply is outstanding. We fed a group of 6 marines and their spouses and had dishes, pans to cook and room for everyone. Loved it. The elevator is great. We had my parents with us so being able to get luggage and groceries up in it was the best. Being the time of year we went there was rain so we didn’t get to use the toy shed but I can’t wait to go back in the summer and use some of the awesome toys available. Ed and Pat were wonderful with questions and helping us when we needed it. Thank you for a wonderful stay we hope to be back to visit our son again after his deployment😁�

This was our first time visiting the Surf City/Topsail area. We could not have asked for a better experience for our multi-generational group of 10! This house far surpassed our expectations. Not only was it very clean but it was decorated and equipped like you would your own home. There was nothing the owners hadn’t thought of and I loved how everything was so organized and labeled. We even made homemade ice cream one night with the electric churn that was there. The activity shed was packed with toys, bikes, umbrellas, chairs, etc. which were wonderful for the beach and for entertaining our grandchildren when we weren’t on the beach. We enjoyed the corn hole boards, ring toss and tether ball games too! Happy Hours is the complete package and we will definitely be planning a return trip.

We just finished a fantastic vacation week at this property. The house had everything we saw in the pics and descriptions and then some. Everything functional. We brought several extra items but had to keep them in the car because this home really has everything you need on a vacation!! Kitchen is loaded with large family baking needs. Love the big dining table. Tether ball in the backyard, corn hole, bikes to ride, surf board. We really enjoyed the hammock downstairs. The vacant lot in front gives an incredible view of the ocean! Really happy with our stay!

House was clean, beautiful, and had easy beach access. Would recommend to anyone considering a vacation on Topsail Island.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL is an UNDERSTATEMENT!! This house is well-appointed in every nook and cranney from the minute you pull into the driveway and see the hammock filled with pillows with the Adirondack chair tic-tack-toe station and picnic table with checkers/tic-tack-toe shell game! *Note to future renter: Enter house by going up stairs, not the door in the carport. Took us about 20 minutes to figure out we were trying to punch in the access code to owner's storage unit to no avail...duh!)* The toy cabana/surf shack is overstocked with every piece of beach accoutrement you could even think of. Beds were comfortable. Neighborhood is in an ideal location, not too close to pier, not too far from center of action. The decor is delightful, the outdoor furniture is comfortable and convenient. I'm just sad we had to leave! The owner's truly have done us a disservice as no other rental will compare to this house EVER AGAIN! They've ruined us!!! (ha ha ha) *Note to future renters: Lock all sliders, entry doors, and car doors nightly* It is a safe area with friendly neighborhood folks, but there's always that one drunk idiot... SAVE YOURSELF HOURS OF SEARCHING AND BOOK THIS HOUSE ASAP - You won't be dissappointed! Thank you Ed and Pat, you are wonderful hosts! We would like to be on the short list of approved renters AND IF YOU EVER WANT TO SELL THE HOUSE, WE WOULD LIKE TO PUT IN AN OFFER!!!!! Loved every minute of our week stay!!!
