The house was so spacious!! Perfect for a family get together. The karaoke machine was so fun!!

Nice place, close to the beach. 6 bedrooms with 4 bathrooms is sure nice. Even though two floors are connected by outside stairway.

The view from the windows and decks is to die for. There is a very short path directly to the beach. We rented both levels as we had 18 guests. Having both fully outfitted kitchens made fixing meals allot easier. Everyone enjoyed themselves, those that wanted to be on the beach and those who wanted to just sit on the deck, watch the ocean and read.

Overall, we were a bit disappointed in the condition/cleanliness of the property. Although a a couple positives to list as well Positives: view/location are wonderful!!! Negatives: Garage setup as a media room- which is a great idea, but the furniture is old, there were food crumbs on the furniture from a previous guest- futon covers were old and unable to be fully closed to cover the old futon mattresses. Overall a bit unpleasant. Washing machine in garage is small and spin cycle didn’t work Deck/Stairs: the stairs and deck are falling apart. There were nails/screws falling out under the deck and in the driveway. The stairway was leaning which made us nervous. We avoided having 2 adults on the upper stairs at the same time. Lower unit: furniture was old. Cushions on dining chairs were worn out so when sitting, sat on the frame of the chair. Chairs also covered in stains. Washed all the kitchen utensils before using them. Lots of crumbs in bottom of kitchen drawers. Spiderwebs throughout lower level. Mattress in main bedroom has springs poking out. No screens in windows, although comments on prior reviews said this would be fixed. Upper level: furniture a bit better, although AC wasnt working. Overall, we were a bit disappointed in the cost vs quality/cleanliness. Would NOT stay here again and/or recommend.

We had a great time. Easy access to the beach, and great views of the ocean from both floors and the hot tub.

This house was located in a great area. You are a one minute walk from the beach, the view is phenomenal and there was lots of space for everyone. The biggest downside was climbing up so many stairs to the top floor loading and unloading everything. I wasn’t quite prepared for the amount of exercise that took. (Although I did put my share of steps in during our stay! : ) Overall we loved it. It rained quite a bit so we were inside and the board games galore made it fun for everyone to be together. I would recommend staying here, just be prepared for lots of stairs! Thank you to the owners too for great communication!

The good: beautiful views, comfortable seating, beach access, two kitchens, 25 minute beach walk to store, 11 minute walk to great restaurant at the top of the hill, comfortable beds, hot tub. Accommodated many guests while giving most people the privacy of their own rooms. The bad: basement/garage area was pretty dirty, we didn't end up using it, but there was plenty of space on the floors above so no big loss. There were no screens on the bedroom windows, so I woke up with bug bites on my face which I didn't love. The top deck was a bit rickety/uneven and underneath it actually appears some bolts have been sheared off the I-beam. That last one made me genuinely nervous and we tried to ensure we didn't have more than two people out on the deck at any time. All the stairs were a bit uneven. There are only stairs on the outside, so this wouldn't be a great rental for the rainy season, but fortunately we had nice weather for our stay. Overall, all my guests really liked it. None of these problems really interrupted our stay because we were mostly inside chatting or eating, or walking on the beach, and it was great for all of those activities. I've seen other reviews complain about the kitchen, but we didn't have any problems. I would book it again if it got some window screens.

We are happy with the size and layout of this house. We are big family with kids and they were all had a great time here.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the property. We rented the full property and it worked great for 9 adults, 5 kids and 5 assorted dogs. (This was great for us as everyone loves their dogs as family and it is hard to find places that will take young kids and dogs) I loved just being able to sit on the deck and look out at the water. As all properties there are quirks but nothing that we had not expected from other rental experiences. House was well supplied, Doug was very responsive. I thought the garage area was attached to the main living areas through some inside stairs but the only access is actually through the garage doors. Nothing you can do about it because of the location but be prepared for hiking up all the stairs to bring in and take out your stuff. Make sure to bring younger people for this part ;) It was a short walk down a trail to the beach but again if you have any physical issues parts of this trail are rough. To get around this you can easily drive your car on the beach to right in front of the house to meet up with others. We are trying to come up with dates that work for all of us so we can book again next summer.

Was the best thing ever!! Was perfect for our baby girl to get married on the beach! I so recommend this place it was a beautiful view and amazing access to the beach!

There was a generous supply of kitchen items, and the property was clean and well stocked. The basement with games was enjoyed by the kids, the beds and furniture were comfortable, and the bathrooms were generous and clean. Internet access was available, and the view was superb. We found the interesting book describing local history, but never found the section on rules, “how to,” etc. that would have been helpful. With our tech savvy family we had no tech issues, but we also had no explanations about use of the property. We found bottles of water on arrival, which were appreciated after our afternoon drive! The house met all of our needs, except ease of beach access. Drive to the beach if you have small children, aged, or disabled in your group. And bring your own beach chairs for lounging close to the ocean. We would love to stay there again!

My only complaint was that check in was listed at 4:00. We happened to get there a bit early and it still hadn’t been cleaned. Management company was very matter of fact that check wasn’t until 5. We hung out at the beach and it was ready at 5. Very clean. We had 9 adults and 2 kids and it was perfect. My whole family really enjoyed our time together. As one level mirrors the other we fixed our meals and hung out on the upper level. The kitchen is a little small but worked fine. Love the big table we could all sit at. We had fun game nights and brought our own but they had many many more there. The view is breathtaking. It’s nice to walk down a path to the beach. Since we had a physically challenged person with us we also drove 1/4 mile down the main roads and drove her onto the beach. The beds were great. It was an amazing time.

Had a party of 10 adults 5 kids. It was perfect for us. Short walk to the beach, awesome view. Close enough to civilization to not worry about a trip to the store but far enough that you only share the beach with a few people. Kids and adults loved the karaoke machine and other toys (foosball table, kites, etc.) Lots of fun!

Well equipped, well stocked. We used just about everything. The kids loved the hot tub and the foosball. We all loved the view. We had one issue with plumbing, which was corrected promptly.

We would give the location a 10. But after dropping $3000, I expect much more than less than par appliances, dripping plumping where you have to empty a large bucket, dirty surfaces, rickety deck and stairs, sliders that don’t open easily due to being dirty and not maintained. They advertise a great view. Be prepared to view through filthy windows. The pathway to the beach needs to be addressed. Very difficult to navigate safely. I know that’s something that needs to be addressed by the whole neighborhood. We had a great time despite these issues, but we won’t be back.

This place is perfect for a large family gathering. We will definitely be returning! It’s RIGHT on the beach and you can stare at the beach all day through the big windows!

With a family as big as ours finding a single property that can accommodate us was awesome. The kids enjoyed being so close to the beach. The large kitchens and dining tables were great for meals. The owner was great at answering my questions as our rental date got closer. In all honestly they only negative that we could think of was the upstairs microwave didn't work but we were more than ok since we rented both units and the kids just had to walk downstairs to warm up things. Being able to catch sunset from the hot tub... Beach.... Or balcony was great. We will definitely be returning to this spot!!

There was evidence that neither deep nor Covid-19 cleaning had been done. Dust and staines on the walls in some of the rooms, dirt on floor, and carpeted areas had not been vacuumed. The upper level lock box doesn't work. It was unlocked when we arrived and exited. The lock on the upper level slider door is hard to latch onto. Pet hairs on the futons on the upper level living room area. Listing boast of karaoke machine - it was non-operational with 2 broken microphones and a note on top which indicates the owner is aware but failed to replace/repair it. Leaking hot water heater in the garage leaving floor and carpet wet with a moldy smell. *Iron Cross - white supremacy kite in the garage in plain site. This was very offensive to my entire family! Warn and tattered futons in garage needs to be replaced. Bad smelling wash room in garage. Only access to property is via several flights of stair (not mentioned in the property description). If you have mobility issues, don't think of renting this place. Listing boasts of having two kitchens and a Jacuzzi for use. One burner on each stove top didn't work at all. While cooking for my sisters birthday gathering both electric ranges stopped working all together leaving food half cooked. There was sand in the Jacuzzi upon arrival. The Jacuzzi is also located in front of the garage with open access to anyone. The microwave on the upper level doesn't heat food. Both top bunk beds on the upper level have broken slats with red tape on them. One of the upper level bunk beds has a stain on the bottom right side. The toaster on the upper level only works if you stand there and hold the button down until bread is toasted. I mention this because we had 11 adults and 5 children to make waffles for. We discovered the dishwasher didn't work after loading it with dishes for cleaning. The refrigerator on the main level doesn't get very cold even at the highest cooling level. The light near the shower in the mater bathroom on the main level was out leaving the shower area darkened; peeling ceiling in the master shower stall. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing rental for the amount of money paid to have nothing but issues during our stay. My first and most likely my last VRBO rental. Be warned!!!

Even before we begin our stay, the owners were hard to get a hold of and there was no property manager to contact.We did not receive keys to the house before we left for our trip and had to use the keys that were in the lock box at the site .When we arrived at the property the lower unit smelled like pet odor and there was sand in the hot tub. The online listing states that the property sleeps 24 people. There is not nearly enough parking for that many people. There are only two parking spots on the property. In the master bedroom in the lower unit the sheets were very poor quality and appeared to be somewhat dirty. The view and the easy close access to the beach were wonderful. The upper unit was very nice.The owners have insisted that one of the queen size beds in the lower unit we rented has urine on it. They refused to refund our deposit and have requested that we pay an additional $300 to replace the queen size mattress. Two adults slept in that bed it and it was not urinated on by any of our party. Initially they indicated to us that it was the master bedroom that we slept in that had urine on it and then they changed and said it was the other queen bed, We were willing to work with the minor inconveniences in regards to the keys, the sheets ,the sand ,and the odor and had a very great trip with our family. It is very unfair of the owners to not refund our deposit and ask us to pay for damages that we did not do. The owners communicated to us that if we apologize they would give us our money back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rough House. It had everything that we needed to make it for an enjoyable stay. It was a perfect beach getaway for our family reunion

Loved having both units giving us 2 kitchens and plenty of space and a Beautiful view!

This house was a good place for our family reunion. Great location to the beach and close to Olympic national park. The house needs a few updates, but was adequate for what we needed.

Everything was very nice, the microwave on the first floor was broken and we had to wash the towels from previous renters, but otherwise it was great.

Before our stay, I had never had the chance to visit Moclips. If you don't decide to stay here you should at least visit this area at some point! The ocean is absolutely gorgeous and the sunsets are out of this world. The house itself looks straight out to the beach with a fantastic view and extremely easy beach access (just walking less than 30 seconds basically straight towards the water along a little path). The only hiccups that came up were finding the hot tub as we did not understand that it is shared with the house next door and is under their deck and was not completely ready to be used (winter time can be hard to manage a hot tub). Other than that - amazing trip, amazing stay, and definitely coming back to Moclips again!

We drove 2 hours to the property, looked it over and decided to drive away and not stay. It wasn't the right setting for our family of 19 to spend 4 days and 3 nights. We have 4 active young grandsons, with no yard there wasn't any place for them to play outside. There wasn't anyplace outside for the adults to sit and read or visit. The beach was too far away for the kids to walk there by themselves. With blackberries growing up around the houses it didn't look inviting or cared for. We couldn't get in to look at the inside as we hadn't received a key or the combination for the lock. We had no cell phone reception so couldn't reach the owner. We had to make a decision since the other families were driving down later from Seattle. We drove away wishing we had viewed the property in person before paying for 3 nights. I called the owner to say we decided not to stay. I didn't ask for a refund. He didn't offer any refund. He offered coupons to give to others, but I didn't feel right recommending the place to others. It was an unfortunate, expensive experience.

We celebrated my parents 60th wedding anniversary, so all the kids and grandkids made it to the "Rough House" for the celebration. The house had pretty much all the utensils and cookware we needed to make meals, etc. The beach is much nicer than the pics on Doug's page, as was the interior of the house. All in all, we are planning to return a year or two down the road.

We had 24 people at the Retreats and Reunion home last week for a much anticipated family reunion. We were absolutely thrilled with this property. The beach is a walking minute away and for much of the time we were the only ones there playing bocci ball, Frisbee, golf, and searching for shells. The facilities are wonderful: large rooms, modern kitchens and bathrooms, tables and chairs for everyone, and a washer and dryer to boot. We thought that the price split among 4 families was a great value. Thank you to the Roughs for such a great week!
