The house was nice but felt a bit damp. The view is lovely. The historic cemetery road was pretty to walk. The kitchen was well equipped and the furniture was comfortable. The steep concrete stairs to the water weren't great for little kids and the proximity to a maximum security prison was a shock and put a damper on things. We should have looked into things a bit more because the prison and then the lack of a big sandy beach, decent restaurants/ice cream shops/general vacation-y things to do was disappointing. We did enjoy a day at the waterpark though!

Very nice property, the house had everything we needed, really nice view from the beautiful porch. I would highly recommend!
6.0 / 10.0
The property's location offers undeniably breathtaking views from the deck, which is a major plus. The newly renovated master bedroom and bathroom are also a highlight, providing a luxurious retreat. However, the rest of the house feels dated and could benefit from a professional cleaning service.
Unfortunately, the property's proximity to a maximum security prison is a significant oversight in the listing. While there haven't been escapes in decades, it's a jarring surprise for unsuspecting guests. It would be helpful to disclose this information upfront.
The house itself has an old house smell, which can't be avoided, and could use some updates. The electric system felt a bit off, and the overall cleanliness was subpar. We found hair under the pillows and heavy dust on the baseboards and less frequented places throughout.
Despite these drawbacks, we managed to enjoy our stay thanks to the beautiful lake views. This property has the potential to be exceptional with some improvements. For those seeking a lakehouse near local attractions, this could still be a good option. I had higher expectations for the price but we still had a great time. Just be aware of the unexpected neighbor and prepare for a property that needs some TLC.

No lightbulbs to replace those that burned out during our stay. TV in the master bedroom does not work. Internet SSID was incorrect. But overall we enjoyed staying there. Kitchen well-stocked with utensils, gadgets, etc. Also parking was not adequate for 3 cars. Corps has not cleared trees and brush, blocking much of the view of the lake. Interesting historical house!

Our family really enjoyed this property. The property is in a quiet location, the view from the back porch is unbelievable. They had everything you could possibly need in the house.

Charming older home with great lake view. Loved the sunsets on the lake. Only wish we could have accessed the lake. Too many tree limbs and trunks to safely get to the waters edge. Lots of area places to visit and enjoy. Waterpark was a hit for us.

House was very nice. Had extra things to do like bags and poker chips. Wood for fire. Hosts were very responsive to questions. Good location near marina, stores and restaurants. Lots of wildlife. Saw eagle, fox, deer. We enjoyed our stay.

We enjoyed this beautiful property while visiting nearby family to watch the solar eclipse. We especially loved the historic architecture of the home. Communications with the hosts were great and check in and listing accuracy were all good.

Cute property, right on the water! Kitchen has everything you need and more! Lots of space/ privacy for 2 or 3 small families. My children enjoyed the games and played lots of hide and seek inside. We brought kyacks and launched from the house. We saw deer, turkeys, and the bald eagle on many walks. Responsive host! Enjoy your trip!

We really enjoyed our time at the Lake House. The evening sunsets were amazing and we had deer walk by in the yard everyday. The location worked very well for us commuting to Princeton each day. It was a convenient 10 min drive to gas and groceries. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The owner was easy to communicate with and checked in to see how everything was going. We hope to come back and stay again soon.

The property is lovely inside and out! The kitchen and baths are well stocked; the porch is perfect for cocktails with a view of the lake! Games in the comfortable den were fun on a rainy night and the marina right down the road has free launch for boating. A great place for enjoying Lake Barkley with friends!

Really loved our stay. Property was just as listed, clean, plenty of room for everyone, and right on the water. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!

Breathtaking view from the porch and property faces the lake but no swimming due to the large, slippery rocks. However, there are a couple of locations very near this property that the children enjoyed, especially the Venture River Water Park. If mosquitoes love you as much as they love me, make sure to bring lots of repellent.
The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need, including condiments and seasoning (first time encountering this). The rooms were clean and the beds very comfortable.
The entire family, of ten, had a great time and we will definitely book again!

Charming and a little quirky lake house.
Very comfortable and clean. One of the best stocked kitchens we’ve had. With having a 4 month old grandson with us we dined at the house every day.
Beautiful views
The hosts very helpful.
The only negative would be the 44 steps to the lake and access into the water off the rocks was a bit tricky.

Everything you need is stocked for cooking or cleaning. The view is amazing and all the beds we’re comfortable. The large shower was amazing and we never ran out of hot water even after all showering after being on the lake all day. The only hick up we had was the lock on the door that stores the keys needs to be replaced. We had a great time and highly recommend this place.

The property was centrally located around Lake Barkley. House is older but has a history and charm. Very close to Hu-B's at Kuttawa for our boat rental. Fire pit was used almost daily as was the outside porch facing the lake. The kitchen was used daily. Only real conflict involved the cable TV repair. Overall experience was great.

Check in process was really easy. Location of the property was great and fairly close to all the things we had planned for the weekend. Absolutely loved the front porch that overlooks the lake.

The house is extremely interesting, and we especially loved looking at the architecture. Make sure you see the picture hanging in the dining room of the original house before the additions were added.
The wrap around porch is amazing! Plenty of seating for everyone.
The only drawback is the second downstairs bedroom with the bunkbeds. It is very small, and it is like a furnace in the room even with the window air conditioning unit by the back door. We had to use the room because we had 9 people, and the kids who stayed in that room were miserable. I’m sure it’s fine when it’s not the middle of the summer, but just know that it’s is almost unusable if it’s hot out.
Aside from that one issue, we enjoyed our stay. .

Perfect Family Home
Great family time. Plenty of room for 9 of us.
Very homey and cozy. Everything you could possibly need in kitchen. Owner responded quickly with any questions. Beautiful view, fire pit awesome, kids swam and fished in the lake. Plenty of yard for badminton and croquet or any yard games.

Excellence in Eddyville
Absolutely fantastic... Beautiful lake front property on Lake Barkley in Eddyville with lovely views. The home has Historical significance with many period architecture features to enjoy and best yet thoroughly updated throughout.
The interior was thoughtfully appointed and well decorated. Furniture and Beds were super comfy. The kitchen was well equipped and organized. A/C worked amazing.
The large comfy wrap around porch has beautiful views, exterior sound system, and overlooks an impressive pristine yard (perfect for corn hole, tossing the football, or roasting marsh mellows by the fire pit). We fished off the shore and caught a dozen+, before releasing them back.
The pics on the web are accurate, a good representation, and can be relied on. The house easily accommodated (6) Adults (2 Parents & 4 twenty five year olds). Everybody was comfortable and loved every minute. Kuttawa Marina was nearby and had great new Tri-toons for rent. Check out the live music at Hu-B's. Also, Nashville Broadway day-trip is only 1 1/2 hrs away.
Beth & Jaime were the perfect host, providing great directions, information, and always responsive communication.
All in all, I can't say enough about the lovely lake home, great value, and wonderful hosts. We will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our stay.
The View from the awesome lake side porch can't be beat. We even watched bald eagles soar looking for food on several occasions. The house was clean and the house had a lot of character that you can expect from a pre-civil war home. The minor inconveniences were worth staying in such a house. As constructive criticism: the vrbo app was confusing as far as receiving the code for checkin and checkout; the porch has a lot of cobwebs; The description of the house could use a few more details as to the bedroom and bathroom locations. Other than that it is a great place to stay with a lot of extras to support almost any activity of choice.

Awesome place
This place is amazing. Being able to stay at a place so close to the lake to where you can actually fish off the bank, and in a house with a lot of history no less. We might make this a yearly trip.

So peaceful we forgot what day it was
The home is a lovely blend of older home charm and modern comfort. Our family of 6 adults had plenty of room to be together or for quiet time alone.
We enjoyed swimming, fishing and kayaking in the lake. The area offered horseback riding, antique stores, parks, cavern tours and yummy local restaurants. Our favorite place though was relaxing on the porch.
The hosts responded quickly to our questions and needs.
I would love to return.

Lovely home. Minor issue - upstairs bedrooms not vacuumed. Not enough toilet paper and on-going ant issue at dining room table and upstairs bathroom. Also, screen porch with holes in the screen and animals on the screened porch area.

The porch and view make this home!
The owners were very nice to work with but the home was not as clean and well kept as I would have hoped. The house smelled musty and damp. The porch overlooking the River is amazing and the history of the home is incredible. Good space for kids to play.

Family Retreat
Growing up my family had taken vacations to Kentucky Lake. We decided to rent a house this year and start the tradition back up. Myself, my wife, our two year old, my parents, and then my sister and nephews (5 and 11) stayed in the house. We had a blast. The accommodations were just perfect for our size with the four bedrooms and three baths. We probably could have fit a couple more people without any issue.
The location was exactly what we wanted. Every morning we ate breakfast on the wrap around porch, and in the evenings the kids could run around in the yard and have a campfire. My two year old son in particular was just captivated by all of the boats that went by on Lake Barkley. It was a short(ish) 20-30 minute drive to Kentucky Dam Village or to to the Land Between the Lakes and a ten minute drive back up to Eddyville so it was pretty easy to go out and explore the area.
Overall we had a great time. I'd recommend the house to anyone looking for a getaway on the lake.
