Our family of 7 had a fantastic vacation in this beautiful escape on Maya Beach. The house is very well equipped with all the amenities a large family with small children would need. The beach is gorgeous and right outside the back door. The property manager was a godsend. There is a lot to do within 30 min drive due to proximity to Placencia (diving, bars, restaurants, grocery stores, bakery, airport shops). For more adventures, the major sights are within 1-3 hr drive. It was amazing! We are already talking about coming back!

We rented this house for a high school graduation trip. The house was perfect for what we needed. The house was clean.
If there is something to complain about, I would say the wifi does not work upstairs and the doors scrap the floor causing damage to the tile.
We did have a lizard friend in the house and made for a comical video of having our graduate boys getting the lizard out of the cabinet.
We do plan on going back and renting the house again.

The pool and close access to the ocean was amazing. The location was quiet and still close to anywhere we’d want to go. The house was very clean and comfortable. Note that if you are bringing small children, the safety isn’t great. The railing on the circular staircases has spaces 16+ inch spaces between the spindles. A child could easily fall between them, so we literally wove plastic tape between the spindles to keep the kids safe going up and down. Also the beach needed some cleanup attention, as it had quite a bit of trash and built up seaweed on it. Because of this our children preferred the pool.

house was clean and totally fit our needs. The bbq was nasty so didn't use it. Could use some personal flotation devices and a couple paddle boards . Only seen 1 cockroach which is awesome considering the country. Named him Harry. We will rent this house again next year!

We had a wonderful time at Casa Chachalaca. The place was clean and well-maintained. Our only small complaints are the dryer and dishwasher. The dryer took about 4 cycles on high to. Implore a load. There must be an element out. The dishwasher was not anchored to anything so when you opened the door it would fall out. Otherwise, it was a truly blissful week. I’ve never felt so little stress.

Great place for a family!
Our family of 6 just returned from Casa Chachalaca, and we had a great time! The house is perfect for families with 4 bedrooms, a large living room, and it's own pool. It's close to many great restaurants and a large grocery store. The house could use a little TLC in a few areas. The dishwasher never worked for us (it didn't turn on), the drinking water system leaked one night, and there were a few little things (light in the master shower was burned out, etc). And I'd echo what earlier reviews mentioned that the outdoor furniture leaves a LOT to be desired. There are 2 plastic lounge chairs on the beach, and a few wood chairs on the patio (2 had broken parts), but the hammock in the photos wasn't there (we purchased one ourselves there). Given that people want to spend most of their time outdoors while there, Vacasa could invest a little in their outdoor seating/gathering options. Overall we really liked the house, but you can tell that it's a rental and not someone's private home.

Great private setting
We wrapped up our Placencia vacation with four nights at Casa Chachalaca. The pictures on line do not do the home and the views justice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the privacy. The only negative was the lack of outdoor seating to take relax on.

Wonderful place
We were visiting at the start of the Coronavirus outbreak in the US, so travel was starting to slow and the Peninsula was fairly quiet. Beaches and restaurants were pretty sparse which was amazing for us.
The house is beautiful and well equipped. Beds were small, but were OK. Would recommend taking your own pillows though. The pool is very small, but fine for soaking. We were not sure it was properly chlorinated as we could not smell any chemical and the water was murky, so we mostly stayed out of it.
We had noticed many comments about the outdoor seating options being very limited and uncomfortable. That is the one thing we would also change about the home. It has an amazingly beautiful view, and comfortable and plentiful seating would definitely enhance the outdoor experience. There are a couple of small wooden chairs that are pretty uncomfortable and hard to get in and out of and two plastic chairs that are both broken in several places, so outdoor seating is pretty limited.
Other than that, the place is wonderful. Vero was extremely helpful to us in scheduling flights and tours and making sure everything was great at the house. It is right next door to the Green Parrot resort and we spent quite a lot of time there because we had a friend staying their. Their food is wonderful and their staff is amazing. Leo was extremely helpful to us with a variety of things.

Wonderful place!
Very nice place to stay. Great beach except for the garbage that gets washed up in the tide seems to collect on the beach and not get picked up.
Pool was nice, but not sure it gets chemical added on a regular basis as it did not smell clean and chlorinated.
House is lovely and has everything you need. Beds are all full size, so a bit small and would suggest taking your own pillows.
Outdoor space is truly beautiful and could only be made better by more comfortable outdoor seating. Chairs provided are uncomfortable and in very poor condition.
Green Parrot next door was amazing. Helpful and kind staff. Leo is wonderful and provided us a ton of help and advice!

This was the perfect vacation home!
Casa Chachalaca is a beautiful home in a perfect location. It was clean, comfortable, and quiet with great ac and WiFi. We rented a golf cart, but would probably rent a car next time. It was within walking distance of markets, and restaurants. You could snorkel and swim right from the beach in front, but also had fun taking the canoe to False Caye where we found beautiful coral off the tip of the island. Leo, from the Green Parrot next door, was very helpful in setting up tours and a taxi. We did the Monkey River tour and a private snorkeling tour and would highly recommend both! We hope to return someday, and would definitely rent this vacation home!

Great family vacation
The house and location were great. It was very clean. The pool was amazing in the mornings to heat the Belizean heat. Some decent restaurants in walking distance. Placencia was a 15 minute drive. Our young kids really enjoyed the pool and beach. My only complaint is the chairs for sitting outside weren’t very comfortable. But we loved our stay here and would definitely stay again!

Comfortable Oasis in Maya Beach
So many things to love about Casa Chacalaca! The large downstairs allowed for late nights, long dinners and early mornings overlooking the pool, beach and water. The pool was sunny in the day, and shady in the afternoon (perfect if you have a little sunburn, as my family did!). The four bedrooms (one with a futon) were nicely sized and stayed relatively cool during the night (make sure the sliding door doesn't accidentally over-close for the porch bedrooms - my brother did this and it caused a gap which made his room very hot). The beds are somewhat comfortable, however I was very glad that I brought my own pillow. The bathrooms are also comfortable and with the extra half bathroom downstairs our 6 person group never had any problems. We particularly loved the third floor with the palapa - perfect for sunsets and for stargazing! There are many wonderful books in this house about Belizean culture, flora and fauna - my family loved perusing these. The kitchen was very workable and had all the pots and pans that we could need!
The location was perfect for our needs as well. We rented 2 golf carts for 6 people, and this was a great to explore the entire peninsula. This house is in close proximity to a grocery store, many restaurants, and resorts. South you will find the town of Placencia about 25 minutes away; the airport is about 15 minutes, and the resort Naia (with a great restaurant, 1981) less than 10 minutes by golf cart. Then to the north you will find resorts such as Belize Ocean Club and Hotel Placencia, no more than 10 minutes by golf cart. We loved Maya Beach Bistro, Singing Sands Resort and the Green Parrot, all lovely resorts with bars and restaurants attached. We returned to the Green Parrot multiple times to sit on their dock/palapa and chat with the wonderful Isabel.

We had flight issues and she was INCREDIBLY helpful, re-booking our flights from Belize City to Placencia without a second guess. She also provided fabulous references, as hiring Cara and her father for a traditional creole meal was so amazing, we did it for two nights!!!! We were blown away by their skill, warmth, knowledge and engaging personalities. Not to mention the food!! Omar dove into the ocean that morning and caught us fresh lobster! Talk about a dreamy vacation!!!

Only 3 negatives= lots of seaweed; a spiral staircase which would be tough with bad knees or heavy people; the beds were hard. We really enjoyed the home though and recommend it for your vacation.ps Chris & his staff were very helpful!

This is a great house, very attractive, spacious, modern and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped - we did some light cooking. AC throughout worked great. Having a full sized washer and dryer was a real bonus, as we were able to travel lighter and keep towels clean and fresh. There is not daily cleaning service, which we really did not mind. The beach is great, nice, shallow and sandy to way out. The only negatives I had were the pool was not running correctly, water was not being filtered. And if it were my house i would replace or add some nice outdoor furniture including loungers on the roof deck and better chairs and an outdoor table. In my opinion the value of the house for the money is excellent.
The area is bit of a challenge. Placencia is a 3 hour drive from the airport using paved roads, which the rental company recommended. The "coast highway" is unpaved. Restaurants are adequate but I wouldn't call them good. Same with the grocery stores. We have been going to the Akumal/Tulum area where restaurants/grocery stores are excellent and inexpensive. The best place we found to eat in Placencia was at Jaguar Lanes, although Mr Q's had just reopened nearby and is good. Owners/managers are super nice. One super positive thing is that everyone we encountered in Belize was very nice and friendly.

Perfect!
It was my Birthday , some friends and i had a short weekend to celebrate , we came across Casa Chacalaca , which was more than we had expected. The house is clean, we had more than enough linens , towels and the amenities were perfect .
It has a gorgeous Sun Roof where you are able to relax , enjoy the vista of both Sunrise and sunset perfectly. The pool is cozy and clean , the beach was so captivating during the day looking out at the glittery ocean and all too perfect, that we just sat an enjoyed every color on the horizon at Sunset . On Sunday the house manager came by with champagne which was such a great gesture , and was sweet enough to let us have a late check out. This is definitely a great option for family or friends to book , you will not regret it. We will without a doubt be back !

Casa Chachalaca
The house and surrounding property were quite nice, and the location to Placencia and shopping was perfect. However, we were there for 5 days before the beach was finally cleared of messy debris. Also the bathrooms smelled of old urine when we moved in before we cleaned them. The spiral staircase was a little difficult to negotiate, but other than these problems, We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great place for the family
We loved everything about this house! We were in Belize for our sons wedding with our whole immediate family. The house fit us and was perfectly located. The kitchen had everything we needed. The pool was a welcome relief from the hot sunny days! The only thing we wished we had was a grill. Great property! Can’t wait to go back!!

Best Vacation EVER!
This is a GREAT property in a wonderful location! Our entire family had plenty of room for family time and for alone time. We completely enjoyed the pool, being able to cook our own food and wash our clothes. The only thing missing was a nice grill and maybe a few more beach towels and lawn chairs would have been nice. Great place, and we would gladly come back again!
