We LOVED this cottage! Very cozy and clean! We enjoyed the lake views and great location. We will be back and bring our littles and kayaks next time!

Great Knotty Pine and Acorn design interior. Very comfortable setting. Exterior is quiet with the Ducks swimming by the dock. Reading a book on the deck with the dog looking over the water and yard. We only wish we could have more time to stay. Next visit will be longer. The Gehde's from Green Bay Wi.

Convenient, clean & cozy. Easy booking via VRBO. Jennifer was prompt, and courteous with responses. Note...no AC installed but the area temp dropped on the first night and stayed down during our visit. Since our goal was to spend time around each Great Lake this was the perfect location for us. Many thanks to Jennifer and VRBO for the great service!

Beautiful cottage of beautiful lake. I feel the pictures didnt do the cottage justice it was much nicer than i expected. Very clean and cozy with every at home amenities i could want. Pontoon is available for rental during the stay for a very reasonable price. While out on the lake we saw bald eagles numerous times over the lake. Was a great view. Will definitely stay at acorn cottage in the future

This little lakeside cottage was perfect for our stay. Beautiful view of the lake & convenient location to many of the attractions nearby.

The rental was pretty much as described, nothing more and nothing less. The cabin is old with older/ uncomfortable furnishings. The location is nice, on a picturesque lake and very close to the Mackinaw bridge and Upper Peninsula. We’ve stayed at a fair amount of VRBOs and most have “welcome” supplies like coffee for the first morning, bathroom soap and basic cooking supplies. This one does not, with the exception of salt and pepper.

Cottage is small, half the burners on stove worked. Several burned out light bulbs, or no light bulbs. Chairs very and futon uncomfortable. Biggest issue, no rails on steep steps to lake. This should be noted for the older customers or people with disabilities. Pontoon could use a good cleaning. Overall it was less then what
I expected. We left a day early due to rain.

This place is c completely awesome. Very clean, gorgeous views, super close to Mackinawand the UP, just great. The pontoon boat was in great shape. I read that someone didn’t like this place and chose to stay in a hotel!?!? Clearly they have some screws loose, this place is top notch.

Lovely lake and location. The cottage is perfectly charming. Wonderful parks and historic sites nearby, nice little stores and towns and very good restaurants.

Enjoy our stay. Quiet & peaceful which was what we needed. Could use a railing on the first set of steps for safety reasons. Nice place.

Picturesque cabin on the lake. Antique cabin feel with convenience & comfort. Quick trip to Mackinac Island, Mackinaw City & Cheboygan. Serene nature, quiet & peaceful. Great escape.

Communication to get the code to get into the place was a bit of a hassle but overall the place is nice and your typical grandparents cabin. The walls are thin so keep that in mind if you have more than 2 people staying there. I loved the multiple outdoor sitting areas and views of the lake. Mornings were peaceful and quiet. There is a resort 3 doors down so that can get a little loud but wasn't constant. Overall a quiet lake with minimal boats, which was nice for swimming and paddle boarding. Appreciated the reasonable pontoon rental that is right on property. Recommend taking advantage of that! Also, the location is really good proximity to Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island.

Carp / Paradise Lake Vacation
Nice cottage on a nice lake central to lots of activities. Enjoyed exploring the area and traveling to a few favorite spots in the UP, close to the bridge. Found the beds to be comfortable which was a concern having Lumbar fusion surgery last summer. The gas grill also came in handy.

Tiny bedrooms, terrible beds, potpourri furnishings, old televisions, zero space to unpack
Location and setting was good, that was about it!

Location and Charm
Adorable cottage situated at the top of a little hill overlooking the lake. Great view from deck. Sturdy stairs down to dock. Lake is somewhat shallow so the swimming temp of water was always nice. There are neighbors, so sometimes there were neighbor noises. Mostly quiet, though. Very dark at night, which I loved. Bed was comfy. Very close to Mackinac City and bridge. Easy check in and out. Recommend.

The cottage needed cleaned on the outside and the boat needed cleaned as well
Had a good time but the cottage had large ants and ticks inside the cottage. We found 4 ticks in the cottage 2 in the kitchen and 2 in the bathroom

Peaceful setting but bring your bug spray!
This charming cottage is the perfect place to go to get away from it all. Only draw back is that the insects were relentless. So much so we couldn’t enjoy the outside decks. The television should be updated as it is not compatible with any current devices to get streaming services because it’s so dated. However, if you want to unplug you can’t find a better place to do it!

Loved, loved, LOVED it!!
I'm SO glad that I get to write a review after reading the previous one because it gives me the opportunity to assure anyone else considering Acorn Cottage that it is, in fact, a WONDERFUL place to stay! The house is very clean, light & super cozy. We were all very comfortable. The view of the lake from the two decks is beautiful & we spent a lot of time fishing & cruising the lake on the pontoon, which was also very clean. Not sure what the previous reviewer meant by it being on "a dirt road". The road is paved & the cottage was very easy to find. Carp Lake is close to a ton of fun activities and gorgeous natural attractions. My family & I all agreed that we'd love to return! Thanks for sharing your beautiful cottage!

Charming, nicely appointed and laid out - clean.
We had a wonderful week in Acorn Cottage. First couple of days the weather was unusually hot for the area - no breeze! We made good use of the existing fans, and were glad we brought a couple of box fans with us for this level of heat for sleeping. By Monday the weather broke and it was breezy and beautiful. We enjoyed the deck and the lake very much. Nice proximity to Sturgeon Bay and Mackinac Island - where we had great days and made memories. Highly recommend.

This place was a joke!!!!
So glad I get to leave a review. The cottage was nothing like the pictures online. Dark, dirty, everything was old and outdated. We paid in advance. ( will never do that again) 5 miles on a dirt road!! We contacted the property owner was not offered any money back. We left and went into Mackinaw City. We found a nice clean place to stay. We paid for our vacation twice but would not have spent one night here. We went back to the site only to realize that the pictures online were from 2009!! No wonder it was NOTHING like the pictures!! Plan on contacting the BBB of Michigan. BUYER BEWARE!! Please post this so the next person will not be TAKEN. Thank you!!

Great view of the lake, old cottage.
The property was a great little spot. The walk down to the water was a bit scary, with old wooden steps leading you down the hill. For some reason my husband and I thought there was a beach, but there wasn't. Lots of poison ivy around the main parts of the property, which weren't in the way but when chasing a toddler around it made it a bit stressful. The inside of the cottage is small, but quaint. It is older though, with the smell of mustyness. I didn't feel like it was totally cleaned well when we got there. Bathroom was not ventilated, so almost seemed too musty in there. Cobwebs around. Didn't have any cupboard room for our groceries we packed, so we used stools to keep them up. The bathroom and kitchen were pretty small and tricky to maneuver in with more than one person. We stayed for almost a week, and didn't have enough hand soap available, toilet paper, dishwasher packs, (we had packed some of our own that we were able to use, except handsoap) and there were not any 'blue garbage bags to use. We walked to the park across the street a few times, but there isn't much there. We also took our bikes out a few times, which was worth it. The town itself doesn't have much, but it is located close to all of the big attraction areas. Would not recommend if you have toddlers. I wouldn't mind staying again, but wouldn't make it such a long stay next time.

Beyond Relaxing!!
Wow! What an awesome place to stay. Secluded and quiet. Beautiful cottage that is decorated with cabin like feel. Comfortable beds too! Our dogs, Desi and Sparty, loved riding on the pontoon. Plus, we were able to view the eclipse from the boat!!! It was great!! Mackinac bridge is only 5 minutes away. Do yourself a favor and rent this place and leave all your worries behind.

Amazing place to stay.
My husband and I have stayed at the acorn cottage 2 times now. Both times we took a nother couple with us. The cottage is absolutely beautiful, peaceful and quiet. We had spent our morning on the lower deck or on the boat dock and watched the sun rise and fed the ducks. I love how you can sit on the couch and just look over the water and watch everything go by. Everything in the cabin is provided for you so all you have to do is bring clothes and bath necessities. The cabin brings me peace and relaxes me and definitely will be back again.

I cried the morning we left!
This cottage is the cutest, most well thought out, accommodating place that I have spent in the Carp Lake/Mackinaw City area. This place is a treasure! Thank you for the wonderful week that we had!!

Cute cottage
We loved the area and the cottage was decorated cute. It was fairly clean with a few cobwebs. It had a good furnace, hot water and water pressure, which are difficult to find in older cabins. The cottage could use more comfortable furniture. The futon couch was very uncomfortable. The beds could use some type of toppers. The reason we gave the cottage a 3 was that there are aproximately 24 steps to get down to pier with a couple of turns. Part of the wooden stairway did not have a handrail. Solar lights were along the path but most were not working. We did not use the gas grill because it was dirty and we could not find any tools to clean it.
