Historic Fishtown Shanty-Renovated and Remodeled
"The Otherside" offre l'expérience très unique de séjourner dans un chalet magnifiquement rénové, une fois un bidonville de Fishtown.

Ce chalet confortable, bien meublé et lambrissé, avec 2 chambres et 2 salles de bains, construit à l'origine au début des années 1900 et rénové par les frères Carlson vers 2000, a une longue histoire que les clients peuvent découvrir lorsqu'ils nous rendent visite pendant une semaine. If you love Fishtown and its surrounding wonders, you will love staying at The Other Side. Steeped in the village’s history, yet fully updated with all modern conveniences, the home is welcoming and beautifully quaint.
We enjoyed watching the fishing boats from the pier and the salmon attempting a jump up the dam.
Van’s beach is just steps away… no better place to catch the sunset.
We can’t wait to return to this gem of a place.

The home is amazing and feels very comfortable. Being right in the heart of Fishtown is a great experience, though expect to be in some other folks pictures while sitting in the dock! All in all, a fantastic place to stay.

This place was just amazing. Well appointed. We decorated. It was actually much nicer than described! And located in the heart of Leland's famous fishtown and just a few steps (literally) from the beach. We loved it!!

We've been vacationing in Northern Michigan for 11 years and this is one of our favorite rentals. It was absolutely charming and very comfortable and clean for us (a family of 4 with teens). We had loads of fun catching (MANY) fish off the dock and watching the sunsets at the beach. It was such a unique place to stay. Walking distance to the grocery and stores. I was a bit worried about having so many tourists on the other side of the river, but it was not a bother at all!

What a cool and unique place. The location couldn’t be better. We really enjoyed seeing all of the boats and watching sunsets from the upper deck. Can’t think of anything I would change. Highly recommend booking…I’ve never seen anything like it!

The cottage was beautiful and the location was unbeatable. So many little details that made this rental stand out. The new deck furniture was lovely! We took home pockets full of Petoskey stones as well as lots of great memories.

Stayed here with some friends for a long weekend - had a great time, and this property was a perfect home base. The house was clean and comfortable, and the Fishtown location was fantastic! We would definitely stay here again.

I can’t recommend The Shanty enough! It was so unique and clean. The location can’t be beat! I loved to hear the boats and anglers come and go. Our stay was perfect. I can’t wait to book it again!!!

The pictures online do not do this property justice! It was perfect for a weekend getaway with my husband. The cabin had everything we needed and more. Check in and check out were seamless.

The charm of Leland in the Fall at this place was like something out of this world! The home is so charming, cozy and perfectly appointed it is hard to leave! When you do, behind the home is a beautiful beach and in front is the picturesque Leland river. We arrived on a rainy night, had delicious chowder at the cove. Other days we visited wineries, hiked trails and took in the fall vibes. We stayed in and cooked because it was so fun to be in our property overlooking Leland. Dog-friendly, and our two had the best time on walks through town and on the beach. Mary Lou was wonderful!

Check out at 10am was a bit early for us. We felt rushed in the morning. It would have been nice to check out at noon after all the local shops were open. This way we could have shopped before leaving Fish Town. We will be back for sure.

This place is amazing and well stocked! You can walk to restaurants for every meal if you’d like to but it also has everything you need to stay right there and cook. I wouldn’t recommend making a lot plans if you book this incredible shanty because you won’t want to leave!

Our stay over Labor Day 2023 was fantastic! The property is incredibly unique and fun. Location is great with lots to do. The beach is just steps away and the sunsets were gorgeous!
Plenty of space for our family of 4. Kitchen was well stocked for anything you may need to cook and beds were comfortable!

We have been coming to this area for over 20 years. I love Leland, and being able to stay in the heart of Fish Town was fabulous. The property was exactly as expected. We loved walking everywhere in town. Also to be able to walk out the door and take a path to the beach is divine. Love places that allow pets. We had our year old golden retriever along, he loved it too. Really appreciate Mary Lou's concern for us as the winds blew and the water rolled. We stayed safe and dry.

Leland is such an amazing place anyway. The river through Fishtown is iconic and one of the top 10 gems of all of Michigan. But to get to stay right on the river is more than anyone could ever ask for. I saw all the tourists, wedding parties taking pictures, and fisherman all along the opposite dock. Meanwhile, I could step out the door in bare feet and fish all I wanted. I watched football from an upstairs bedroom with the window open to Fishtown and all the activities. When it gets cool, I turn on woodburning stove (with an electric button) and enjoy the warmth. A short walk out the front door takes you step across beach grass to the beach and Lake Michigan. Walking into town across the spillway to the Cove restaurant or other shops is steps away. Its such an amazing place! It is a little rustic, which is quite fine with me. But its like a modern retreat amidst such beauty and many activities to do.

We love this property so much that we've been coming here once or twice a year for multiple years now. Our kids think it's our summer cabin and our dog settles in quickly. Mary Lou is the best and we appreciate her wonderful communication.

The accommodations were great! The host was more than accommodating, very friendly, and I will definitely rent this location again. Sit on the deck and watch steelhead and salmon swim up the river. A quick walk to the shops in Fishtown, literally across the river. Looking for a getaway, with the nostalgic feel of northern Michigan or something reminiscent of New England, this is the place.

This is a great cottage to stay right on one of the docks in fishtown. Van’s beach is just steps away and we enjoyed walking our dogs on the quiet beach finding petoskey stones. The cottage was cute, clean, and in a prime spot. We would definitely consider staying here again.

Very comfortable renovated fishing shanty. Perfect for our family of five with young kids. Enjoyed being in the heart of Fishtown, so close to the beach, shops, restaurants, boat trips and friendly Leland inhabitants. Sunset views and fishing from the deck. A wonderful vacation!
