This home was splendid: well-appointed kitchen, comfortable beds, a serene patio beneath an large oak tree that harbored an amazing staghorn fern that we bonded with :). Coffee/pastries a five minute walk down the hill, groceries just another 5. A lovely place for a small reunion. Besides a family wedding, we visited The Huntington Gardens which was about a 15 minute drive, not to be missed if you like this sort of thing.

1. This was a granddaughter trip to Universal Studios and Melrose Ave. I wanted to stay in the safest neighborhood I could find. The Eagle Rock area fit the bill perfectly.
2. It has an amazing, charming front porch where I drank coffee in the mornings, watched the birds and looked at amazing vegetation. It has a wonderful back patio with so many varieties of plants. The most exceptional being a huge 70-year-old staghorn fern.
3. Even though this home is very large my Granddaughter and I felt safe and comfortable as the whole house has a very warm feel to it. In fact, it’s one of the safest neighborhoods I have experienced. It was a full moon while we were there and being on the second level bedroom it was exceptional watching the moon rise.
4.I loved the kitchen, it had all you could ask for if you wanted to create family meals. Since it was only the two of us we went to Trader Joe’s down the street and bought all the snacks we needed. Although one night we had to go to Aunt Yvette’s kitchen (Ethiopian). One of the greatest experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. Again, right down the street. In fact, there are so many different amazing restaurants right down the street.
Roger was an fabulous host and lived up to his perfect scores on VRBO. I highly recommend staying in this home as it was more than an A++ experience.

My wife and just spent a week at Roger's wonderful home in Eagle Rock. It's located in a quiet neighborhood with quick access to everything. A movie scene was being shot down not far away one of the evenings as we came home, pretty cool.
Make sure you check out the Eagle Rock Italian Bakery just a few blocks east on Colorado Blvd. Wonderful sandwiches and bakery. We actually ordered from them three times in a week!
The kitchen has everything you'll need. The backyard was secluded and welcoming with a wonderfully large tree and the hot tub set back.
We plan on returning the next time we visit family nearby.

Roger was communicative and provided all of the info that we needed for a fantastic stay. We didn't have as much time to spend in the house to enjoy all that it had to offer, but the space was well equipped for a nice dinner/hosting guests. The neighborhood was very quiet and welcoming and walkable to a variety of restaurants and cafes. Overall would recommend others to stay here.

We came to LA to see Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday show. This property is beautiful, we’ll maintained, quiet and perfect for a getaway with friends. Super clean and safe area. Walking distance to so many entertainment options and an easy ride to everything LA has to offer. The owners are super nice and responsive. We will definitely stay here again. Have no hesitation when booking this propriety you will love it!!!

My friends and I were in LA for shows at the Hollywood Bowl, but wanted an oasis away from the craziness of West Hollywood. We could hardly ask for a more ideal place than Roger's beautiful home.
It was so clean, the outdoor space was green, gorgeous and comfy (the jacuzzi was fantastic every morning big nights out dancing), the beds were great (my friend LOVED the room with the little terrace overlooking the street) and the shower was awesome.
The location is pretty cool as well...there was an excellent taco truck parked a 5 minute walk away as well as some really tasty restaurants and chill bars. It was only about a 25 minute drive to Hollywood (which is pretty close for LA) and 15 minutes to Dodger Stadium, s

We had a mix of sunshine and heavy rain during our visit. The house was cozy on the rainy days. We didn't cook, but we could see the kitchen was well stocked. There was plenty of coffee and tea in the cupboard which was great. Even if you don't cook you can eat your takeout in the lovely dining room. There were plenty of towels in the bathroom. The washer & dryer were very useful. It's nice to leave a vacation with clean clothes. Roger kept in touch the whole visit, which was so thoughtful. We love Craftsman homes and we thought the house was charming. The best spot in the house is the window seat in the living room. The neighborhood is so pretty, and also quiet. There is Trader Joe's nearby which is extremely handy. Oh, and a Target which is also handy. We ate at Cindy's and Little Beast, we recommend both. Roger is a wonderful host and his home feels like a piece of California history.

Kitchen and bath well equipped. Downstairs heat didn’t reach kitchen, which was an issue in winter. Upstairs you need to set heat higher than we do at home in order to heat bathroom upstairs. Better lighting on stairs and first floor landing would make it safer. Bedrooms and downstairs rooms well equipped and comfortable.

From day 1, Roger was a generous and helpful host. He answered my multiple questions and ensured a seamless cross-country arrival process with zero issues.
The property is true to the pictures and description. An eclectic, warm, charming and unique home. We loved looking at all the paintings, diverse art collections, musical instruments and interesting books.
The neighborhood is quiet and within a few blocks to various restaurants, cafes, gas and grocery and about a 10-12min drive to the metro rail.
We loved our stay and only wished it could have been longer.

We really enjoyed staying in Roger’s charming, comfortable craftsman house. The house and garden was a peaceful refuge from the LA bustle. I loved sitting in the back yard in the mornings having coffee under the giant old oak. It felt like being at home, but better.
It’s a nice area with a lot of old bungalows on big lots - a good place for a stroll in the evenings after the sun goes down.
Roger was a great host and easily available by text when we had questions. We hope to stay again next time we’re in town.

Disappointing compared with reviews/photos
We were very disappointed as it fell quite short of our impression from the listing and reviews at the time we booked. The listing's photography is flattering and prior reviews are generous. It was a bit rundown and grimy, with much less usable space than the listing implied. We found it uncomfortable for a number of reasons.
- IMPORTANT FOR SAFETY CONCERNS: The “adjacent rental unit” is contained within the home, separated from the rental space only by a glass door that has been covered and blocked with a table. This wouldn’t have bothered us if we hadn’t arrived on the 2nd day to windows that had been opened in the portion of the house that we rented, indicating someone had entered the unit without permission during our rental period, creeping us out. We avoided the unit as much as possible thereafter and did not feel comfortable getting into it with the owner over it during our brief stay.
-The “meditation room” shouldn't be listed separately as it is one of the three bedrooms and has no room for anything but the aerobed. There is no “kitchenette.”
- All 3 bedrooms share 1 bathroom, which also opens into one of the bedrooms. The second bathroom is not accessible from inside the home! (This was commented on in prior reviews and we apparently missed that detail.) It was also dirty and lacked climate control, and during our stay, contained someone’s laundry and a pile of unkempt laundry supplies.
- The listing indicated 2 aerobeds. Only 1 of the beds is of the quality you likely sleep on normally. The 2nd is an aerobed. The 3rd is a squeaky futon.
- There was no heat on the first floor. Cold mornings.
- The kitchen was very dirty. A cockroach crawled out the first time we turned the light on upon arrival. Dishes and glasses were dusty; we had to do a load of dishes before using them. We definitely didn't want to cook there.
- The icemaker was broken and has apparently been broken for months, referencing other reviews.
- The living room furniture is worn, low and very uncomfortable. The Smart TV is smaller than an average computer monitor.
- Household items that would normally be kept in a shed or garage were strewn about the yard, including a broken lamp, garden tools, and an animal trap. The "wine & cheese" balcony area had filthy seating and a power washer just laying on the roof, next to it. We understand quirky/older places but found the lack of junk cleanup just disrespectful.
- Given general cleanliness, we skipped the murky hot tub!

Eagle rock home is perfect for a get away
This home is clean, comfortable and walking distance to so many great restaurants. The neighborhood is lovely, and feels very safe to walk around. Easy to drive to, and get around to other great spots in LA. Roger was easy to communicate with, everything in the home was in great working order, we had no need to contact him during our stay. Will definitely come to stay in this home again when I travel to LA.

Lovely home with great yard & hottub
The house was clean, beautifully decorated, and peaceful. The back yard has two giant trees and is a lovely spot for meals or to just sit and read. It took us 2 days to discover where the downstairs bathroom was (one must take about 10 steps outdoors to get there), but the exercise going up & down the stairs the first 2 days probably did us good. The ice maker didn't work, but there was a big bowl of ice in the freezer, and when I texted the owner, he promptly brought more. I enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, both cooking and just enjoying the space. The master bedroom upstairs had a box air conditioner that worked well, but a "too-soft-for-either-of-us" bed. The other two beds upstairs were fine, and the bathroom and shower were quite luxurious. Towels and bedding were great and there were plenty of blankets and comforters (more than we needed - we came in Sept.). The house is older and the floors creak as one walks, but as an older couple, we do too! This is a great location, on a quiet street but with easy access to the freeway. While we didn't use the shady front porch, with more people it provides yet another spaces to give folks a little time apart. The lovely backyard and hottub were such a treat. I would recommend this home and happily stay here again!

We were visiting our son and daughter in law, looking for a place near them, but something that would give us our own space. We found this place at Eagle Rock and were very happy. Experience a classic craftsman in a beautiful part of LA
Our stay in Roger's lovely craftsman in Eagle Rock was really nice. It was very hot when we stayed, so thank goodness the house had good air conditioning. The house, located in a safe and quiet neighborhood, was convenient to the many college campuses we visited, as well as many good restaurants. If you want a generic, sterile house, this probably isn't the place for you. Roger's charming house is filled with character and art and artifacts of his travels. It is a testament of a life well lived. Roger himself was welcoming and helpful and made sure we had everything we needed.

Big house.
We could have stayed longer to enjoy this large house more. Kitchen, dining room, living room and outside area were excellent. Yes there is all that and they are spacious, Great master bed, second bedroom, and bathroom (great shower and double sink). 3rd bedroom was also very good (we did not use it) others have written about the blow-up bed in the 3rd bedroom - I am sure kids would like it. Only drawback was as others have written the second bathroom is on the 1st floor and approached by the outside terrace - while all 3 bedrooms are on the 2nd floor. Not ideal but we did not mind (but we were only a party of 3) Good washer and dryer. Very quite/ tranquil house. Owner was very attentive. The kitchen was not that clean when compared to a pristine high end rental unit but if you are a seasoned renter it was fine (may have also been used a lot prior to our stay.) Good location to drive to various activities -not really in a walking area. Great AC, too. Unfortunately no time to play ping pong but it looked good. Did not use the jacuzzi so no comment on that.

Cute home but not quite as advertised.
This home is very cute and in a nice location. However, one “bedroom” is a teeny room and requires blowing up a mattress to make it an actual bedroom. Also, the second bathroom is a half bath that can only be accessed through the outside. The house key was not available when we arrived, the air conditioning was off and thus took quite a bit of time to cool the house off. The home was not ideal for our family of 5 adults. It would be better suited for a smaller family with younger children.
