We had a fantastic, relaxing week in Duck. The weather was picture perfect. This property was great, very comfortable. Beautiful sunrises greeted us each morning as we had coffee on the deck. 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths were very generously appointed. The kitchen was very well stocked and we were able to cook several meals seamlessly. It felt like I was cooking at home. They had many extras such as travel cups to take your coffee for early morning beach walks and a “Welcome” basket of chocolates. The very thoughtful hosts even called to make sure we were able to get in and get settled and then offered several dinner recommendations. We will be back!

Sugar Shack is a lovely place directly on the ocean. The owners have created a space that is so welcoming and comfortable, plus it has every amenity one could ask for…the kitchen is especially outfitted with all a chef needs. Master suite has a great walk in shower and very comfy bed. The owners were so accommodating and easy to work with. Looking forward to our next visit!

My sisters and I stayed here for a few days in between Christmas and New Years and really enjoyed our stay! Right on the water and super close to downtown Duck which is also adorable. We would love to stay here again!

This house has everything you could ask for in a beach house and more. We watched dolphins jumping out of the water during the sunrise, go for a run on the conveniently located Duck Trail and boardwalk, and cook wonderful meals in the fully stocked kitchen. Highly recommend staying here.

Perfect place to stay in Duck. Location can’t be beat - oceanfront with the sound of the ocean beyond the back decks and only a few short steps to the sand. Walkable to the center of Duck Village. The home was immaculately clean and furnished with everything we could possibly need. We received a call from the owners shortly after check in to make sure everything went smoothly. We asked for recommendations for restaurants and they were spot on! We felt comfortable and completely at home during our relaxing week at the Sugar Shack. Can’t wait to return.

This was our second stay at the property. Location right on the beach can't be beat and the house has everything you need. We had our two kids with us and had a fantastic time

I can't express how nice our stay was here. Beach. Beach. Beach. The home itself was incredibly clean and had everything we needed to eat in most days. Relax on the decks. The beds are great. Bathrooms great. Even the outside shower was clean. The owners considered everything you would need to enjoy time away from home. Who wants to eat out in a stuffy restaurant when you have all you need and that view? BTW Harris Teeter always has excellent fresh food to make eating in simple. It's my 3rd trip here, and I'll keep coming back. It gets better year after year. The owners are always looking for ways to improve the property. Thank you for sharing your amazing beach front home with us.

This was the perfect spot for our family! Right on the beach, well-stocked, lots of amenities including some unexpected (and much appreciated) extra goodies! Bud & Janice are very friendly and responsive. It was a no-brainer to book again for next year.

This property has all you need and more than you’d expect in a rental, particularly in the kitchen, which is a huge time saver and relief as a family with a young child. The location next to the beach can’t be beaten, and the ocean views made up for the bad weather we unfortunately had for our stay. The owners are personable and clearly care deeply about their property and guests.

Beautiful property that is obviously a treasured home with all the features. Clean , Well stocked , and views of the ocean from both levels. We had a hard time leaving for our adventures as we were just as happy staying home.
Lovely Janice was so concerned with us getting a nice dinner after plane delayed arrival - she and Bud brainstormed nearby restaurants with descriptions for us. They also sent a list of “must see attractions”.

The house was right next to the beach. There are 3 decks. The house was spotless and was stocked with everything you could think of. It was cozy and comfortable. There were no problems whatsoever. We walked the beach, took nature hikes, went to the Wright Bros museum, walked the Duck boardwalk and ate at casual restaurants with great food. I highly recommend this place. Its a winner.

We LOVED our week long stay at Bud & Janice's Sugar Shack! It was exactly what our family of 4 needed! A perfect getaway in Duck! You can't get a better location. So scenic and so peaceful. And the beach is RIGHT THERE! The house exceeded my own high cleanliness standards. It was super clean. It felt like a home rather than a rental, which we really loved. Kitchen is fully stocked. Everything you could possibly need is there. Communication with Bud and Janice, from the start to the end, was wonderful. Our hosts even created a lovely basket of treats for our girls and our family which was a very sweet, kind and special touch! This was our first time to Duck and we will definitely come back! Thank you so much Janice and Bud :-)

Amazing location for our off season OBX trip. Steps from the beach and gorgeous view from the upper floor. Townhouse was clean, cozy, and well equipped. Owners were incredibly responsive and wow it’s just so much better to rent from an owner and not a rental company. Would love to stay here again!

This place was situated right on the beach, which was great for long walks and listening to the waves. It was also convenient to walk or bike to the town of Duck. Inside, the property was cozy and very well equipped, with great wifi. The view from the primary bedroom was fantastic.

This home is perfect for a small family looking for all the benefits of a larger home in a smaller package. The homeowners keep this property in perfect working order and make updates/upgrades every year. The property is well appointed having all the amenities you need for the beach. You can see the love and attention the owner’s give to this home that you will NEVER get renting from one of the larger rental companies. This is the third week that we have rented this home and we will be back again next year!

Perfect Place for our Family
We have stayed at the Sugar Shack for 10 seasons - we just love it! The 2 bed-2 bath is perfect for our family of 4. The house is always clean and updated. The owners are awesome to work with. The proximity to the beach is unbeatable; and the location of Duck is perfect for our early morning walks. All in all, this place is hard to beat for a small family.

As new parents with a baby, this townhome was both extremely well appointed with all the amenities you need and an excellent location just steps from the beach that allowed us to easily enjoy our trip and get our little one in for naps as needed. As someone who loves to cook, I was particularly impressed by how well stocked the kitchen was with most of the appliances and tools that you could need. I typically bring my own tools as that isn’t usually the case. It was also cozy without feeling dated as some beach houses can be. We hope to come again! :)
