The location of this property in unbeatable. Cool, old, rustic cabin scene. The kids had a blast.

We stayed at Red Bear cabin for 8 days and had a great time. The cabin is lake-front on beautiful Lake Glenville with a great view of the lake. The cabin is a bit older...but is perfect for a lake get-away. Plenty of bedrooms and baths for our family of six. The owners have lived in the area for many years and were helpful with anything we needed...Mike even help us line up a boat rental for the week. The cabin is about 5 miles from Cashiers and close to groceries, restaurants, marina, small shops, hiking trails, etc. In summary, we had a great relaxing week at Red Bear cabin and look forward to returning next summer.

The view from this cabin is outstanding. Owner very responsive.

We made the best memories here. The setting is majestic, the house is perfect. Views to lake unmatched. The house comfortable, and it is vintage. Sort of a time piece. Board games from the 70's, VHS tapes, cassette player and tapes. Loved every minute of it, and the house is super clean too.
Mikee and Mark are the best hosts. They genuinely care. We had access to their friends' pontoon boat- the kids went tubing and had the time of their lives. Smores at the fire pit every night, grilled out day and night. Cannot recommend this place enough. Privacy, comfortable, and all around great time! Just minutes from downtown Cashiers too.
Book it!!

Lake Glenville is a beautiful lake. The location of this property is excellent..enjoyed being on the lake…however, the house is in need of an update along with the photos online. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

After being cancelled from 2 properties because of a major snow storm and being stranded in Gatlinburg we tried to rent this one for a last minute check-in. Property owner called us within 10 min of reserving stating that he had someone else in the property who couldn't leave due to the storm and wasn't sure if we could accommodate us at all but would let me know. In addition, I filtered my search for homes with hot tubs and this one was included in the search. After not seeing one in the photos I inquired if it had one and he said they had to remove it a while back. Given this and the fact that he wasn't sure he could move the other people to even accommodate us at all, I sent him a text 30 min later telling him to cancel our reservation. After being very responsive to the reservation he suddenly became very unresponsive to the cancellation request and ignored my texts...most likely because he already had our money and knew if he ignored it long enough he could take advantage of a situation where a family was trying to make the best of a ruined vacation. It was the most blatant unethical, immoral, dishonest and despicable actions I've experienced in a long time by a business owner. The very small refund they did provide in no way makes up for the fact that we never stayed in the house and cancelled within 30 min of the owner not being able to definitively confirm the reservation. I would say you should be ashamed of yourself but you clearly have no conscience.

It would be very hard to find a more beautiful place!

We love the mountains and the lake. Hard to find a place that delivers both AND is pet friendly. Red Bear Cabin delivers! It’s a fantastic location! It’s on the lake and within 25 minutes (or less) of numerous hiking trails and gorgeous waterfalls. Had beautiful lake views (as advertised). We used the kayaks and the chimnea pot. Also, just a 10-minute drive to Cashiers and roughly 30 to Highlands. Enjoyed the eclectic and vintage decor. Kitchen and bathrooms are updated (as advertised). The best stocked kitchen we’ve encountered. Owner Mike was very responsive and helpful. Already planning a return trip!

We had a wonderful Fall Break at this property. The location is wonderful, central to hiking, grocery store, beautiful lot on the lake. The cabin was very spacious and our two families could separate easily. We enjoyed the fire pits outside, the kitchen is well equipped and the cabin has charm that reminded us of our parents and grandparent's places. We arrived just in time to see the leaves changing, the waterfalls on the lake were wonderful. Very quiet. The laundry is spacious and worked well. We were asked by the owner to take our trash and recycling to the Recycling Center as we left town, which is about 4 miles away. Please know this so you can keep all your recycling separate between glass, cardboard and plastic, also so you can plan ahead. Great place to relax and enjoy North Carolina.

Stayed in red bear cottage for 6 nights with 4 adults and three teens, perfect size for this group. Right on Lake Glenville and 2.5 miles to Cashiers. Classic mountain lake cottage with beautiful views, outdoor grille and fire pit.

The cabin is cozy and situated well on Lake Glenville...very close to Cashiers. Great communication with the owner. Highly recommended.

We loved every minute of our stay in this cozy lake cabin! We did not use the downstairs...the upstairs was just perfect for our family of 5. Mike and Mark were so accommodating, giving suggestions of restaurants, and events such as the Friday music festival on the green just 5 minutes away in Cashiers. As a bonus on our last day, Mark was so kind to take us on a boat ride to tour the gorgeous lake and waterfalls. Our kids were exploring the lake daily, fishing, kayaking, all while we watched from above deck. They were thrilled to find one of many waterfalls just a short kayak away. Was so relaxing, and peaceful, and love the central location with so much to do in the area. We can't wait to return!

Spent one of our most relaxing weeks ever at this warm and cozy lakefront home. Both my husband and myself lead very busy lives and really needed this week to relax but also have a 10 yr old son and teenage daughter so always hard to find something for the whole family - well this is it!! The kids had the best vacation ever! Spent everyday on the lake - kayaking to island, and met lots of friends on the lake. Enjoyed days of hiking and the fabulous waterfalls.
Mike and Mark were wonderful hosts - enjoyed the sunset cruise which was a blast!! Great cabin, very warm and comfortable. kitchen updated, pets were welcomed . We really didn't use downstairs except for the laundry. When I had any concerns or questions Mike was always available and responded immediately. I can't say enough about how great the experience was and how beautiful the lake is. My kids are planning another vacation already to return. Hope we see Mike, Mark and Julie when they come to Siesta next year!

We rented from the 19th to the 25th of September. Since we were few we did not use the bottom half of the house. Therefore, this review mainly focuses on the top floor.
We expect to get quality for our money and boy did we get it. This house was simply beautiful and the owners were some of the greatest guys we've met.
On the outside the house looks pretty. On the inside the design is great, but what caught my eye was the decor. The ornaments, the paintings, the furniture were all wonderful and conveyed a very homey and more importantly a peaceful feeling. The house itself was just relaxing and it felt great inside when we came back from our daily activities.
There are life vests to go swimming as well as a floatie. The lake is amazing. I thoroughly recommend taking their pontoon out onto the lake and enjoying the ride. The owners know A LOT about the area and will absolutely make the ride enjoyable. Furthermore, renting the pontoon from them is cheaper than from the marina AND you get amazing stories, recollections, the history of the lake, and even get to see all the waterfalls [even the hidden ones].
The owners fixed up the Jacuzzi which is also right by the lake. Want to enjoy a glass [or four] of wine while you watch the sunset? No problem. Want to enjoy those same glasses of wine while the kids swim and you keep an eye on them? No problem. However, be careful and don't rough it up or you will break it.
There is PLENTY to do in the town and surrounding areas. Hundreds of miles of hiking trails. Bring good hiking boots and water to keep hydrated. Dozens of waterfalls to see and hike to. Take some pictures, but don't drink the water, because there could be bacteria in it. You can go white water rafting [absolutely 100% recommend it] at the Nantahala river which is just 1.5 hours drive away. Go visit the Biltmore Estates [largest privately owned home in America] which is just a bit over an hours drive away. The estate takes a WHOLE day, has complimentary wine at the winery which you can drink all day long, but most importantly its really huge, impressive, and holds a lot of history and is a testament to human ingenuity. There are 250 rooms, but only about 50 open. Still it takes a whole day, so get there early.
Anyways, to reiterate what I said. The house is absolutely worth the money. It was an awesome vacation. The owners are some of the greatest people to talk to and be around.
I definitely recommend renting their house. No questions asked.

Now our 12th time here! Love the hosts neighbors and friends. It's like all of SW Fla comes up here. Great moonlight party on the hill! We enjoyed ourselves as usual.

Tranquility at it's finest...”
March 27, 2013 for a stay in March 2013
We found this quant little place on the web as we were heading back to Fl. after visiting some family in aliquippa, Pa. We had a 6 night stay and I wanted to make it a lifetime. We had mild snow and did some hiking and site seeing. There was a Kayak there and the Kid got out there in the lake and caught 3 Large bass. Best eatn fish I had ever had. This place is so magical. The town now sells alcohol. A big plus for the wife and I. We even saw white squirrels. Our hosts the Russels made the house so warm and inviting. Much thanks to them.
We hope to return in the fall...

My after Thanksgiving weekend at the lake house was wonderful. Turkey and all the trimmings again in a beautiful setting!!! The house was cozy and the lake was absolutely beautiful at this time of year. We were even able to play golf at one of my favorite courses nearby in Cashiers (High Hampton).
I would love to come back again, and would highly recommend the lake house to anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing vacation in a beautiful natural setting.

My family spend a week at this Lakehouse on the 4th of July 2012. It met & exceeded all of our expectations, we had a wonderful family stay ! Plenty of rooms, very clean, attention to detail ! Beautiful environment, waterfalls on the Lake. Small town near by "Cashiers" had everything we need for all our supplies ! It was a lovely setting & I would highly recommend it for a Family gathering on an annual or semi annual basis.

We have rented VRBO many times in the past....this was our first bad experience. We rented the house for the 2nd week of July 2012. When we walked in the upper area was fairly well kept; however, the basement was awful. It had a very pronounced musty smell and was nothing like the main level....and the problem is that the 3rd bedroom and the bunk beds are downstairs. I later talked with the owner and he agreed that they needed to do something about that smell. The refrigerator was in bad shape...it barley kept our food cold and it had far out used its useful life. Also, when we went to use the grill that is provided....it was disgusting. I burned it on hot for 30 mins and cleaned it for about 15 mins before I cooked our food....we did not use it again. About mid-week it turned warmer and muggy and I asked where the air conditioner was at that was advertised on the website....and was told it was in the outside garage and that he forgot to put them in the windows. I don't recall that being part of the explanation on the website either....I guess that is why it says you rarely need it...because it was not there!!!! Finally, the straw that broke the camel's back was when the dock lines broke loose (on a very old dock) and we had to save our rented boat from crashing into the shore. I was quite frustrated so I e-mailed the owner and their solution was to offer us another night at this Oasis on them??? No thanks...we actually left a day early as it was such a disappointment. I think there is a reason you cannot find many pictures of the house on this site. If you are thinking about renting...make sure you ask them to e-mail you pictures of the basement and other areas.
Now...as far as the Lake goes...it is a BEAUTIFUL lake and I would encourage you to come see it....I just would not stay at this rental house.
