Santa Maria’s (21st ave) est l’une des plus belles plages de Santa Cruz avec surf, boogie board, skim boarding, pêche et idéale pour de longues promenades. The house was beautiful and in a great location. There were 5 of us staying and the house offered something for everyone. Looking out to the ocean evey morning and evening was the best. We had evrrything we needed plus some. Highly recommend.

We loved the house and the location. Perfect for our little family vacation. Easy walk to the beach and you could see the ocean and beach from home. Great beach chairs that worked as back pack and could hold cold items as well.

what a lovely little place...secret hidden gem for sure...absolutely loved the layout and the decor...instantly felt at home...tip - back into the driveway and it'll be easy peasy to pull out when you leave...the deck was amazing and the fire pit a plus...even laid out on the deck to get some sun privately...you have such great views and you are concealed from outside eyes...kitchen was large and had all the tools you'd need and more...we never used the dining room but it was spacious for large family meals for sure...its was a little oasis tucked behind a wall of greenery that was just heaven...easy walk down to the beach if you so desired...loved the mudd room and the electronic keyless entry...cant say enough great things about this property...

We loved our time at this house! The decor and furnishings were just perfect, homey, and cozy! Having a washer and dryer was a huge bonus! They thought of everything! The view out the back windows, the outside decks were beautiful! The decks could’ve used a little pressure washing but still beautiful nonetheless. Backing out of the driveway onto the main road was somewhat tricky at times but nothing can be done about that. The proximity to the beach and everything else was great! Overall, loved it and would stay here again!

I booked my family and I this VRBO for a place to all stay together for my brother’s wedding. There were 6 of us and my 4 year old niece. It was everything advertised! Beautiful views from the patio, gorgeous walk to the beach, and walking distance to a Starbucks, which we appreciated. Although, there is a coffee machine in home as well! It was a perfect place to have meals together and get ready for my brothers wedding, and not a far drive to Los Gatos. My only feedback- the pull out beds are more of a full size bed instead of a queen, so if you plan to have people sleep on them, you may want to account for one adult on the pull out bed instead of two. The couch was comfy, so I slept there while my husband took the pull out! Host was very responsive and helpful, and there are tons of board games/coloring supplies for kiddos!

Not enough room for all the stars I’d give this rental. Comfy clean and spacious; as good or better than the pictures. Every item you would ever need in the kitchen, every item you would ever need for your time on the beach. Deck area is spectacular, close to the beach great views. Parking! Yes! We felt like guests borrowing a friend’s home. Thank you Lori!!!!!

Our family stayed for just under a week at this property. We enjoyed our visit but would likely not return to this property. Great: Location, with a view of the lagoon and beach, lovely outdoor dining area and sitting area with a firepit to sit at night. Good: The host was communicative, outdoor grill, nice assortment of beach chairs, body boards, and family games were provided. Bad: Showers leaked, obvious long-term rental with a lot of deferred maintenance (e.g., bathroom stair detached, hole in wall) stained sheets and towels, debris under couches and beds, etc. The patio door looking out over the lagoon was lovely to keep open, but there was no screen, so bugs would fly in starting around 4 p.m. Ugly: Ventilation fans did not appear to work, mustiness spell permeated the rental, mold in several areas, especially bathrooms. As a result of the mustiness, we ended up leaving a day early.

Our family enjoyed our stay at Hale Kai! The layout is perfect for families with a large dining table in the middle room and the large eat-in counter kitchen (which was very well-equipped). We used the grill and the gas firepit on the deck and enjoyed the views! A super-nice surpise were the VCRs and VHS movies...my 4 year old grandson LOVED the Disney movies! A few things did detract from our visit: There were temporary street plates in front of the house on Portola Drive, which made a lot of noise at night (but who can predict the utility company schedule?), some grime on the floors when we arrived and pet odors in some of the rooms. To Lori's credit, I didn't contact her during our stay simply because we weren't there much during the day and we didn't want to have to repack our things for a cleaning crew. I did let her know upon check out though, so it could be rectified for the next visitor. The front yard, outdoor shower, beach gear and numerous amenities inside the house were a wonderful touch!

Our family enjoyed the open space within the home. The beds and couches were very comfortable. The atmosphere was relaxing and the beach was a 4 minute walk, which was perfect. We appreciated use of the beach chairs and beach toys.

This property was very well set up, comfortable and was very clean. The little one really liked the front and back yards. We all enjoyed the short walk to the beach at Corcoran Lagoon. Within walking distance to some restaurants and grocery stores. In inclement weather, there were lots of movies and books. Very easy to work with the owners, who were very responsive to our questions. Highly recommended!

We came to stay at Hale Kai just a few days after all the big storms that had hit Santa Cruz this January 2023. I was coming from the East Coast to see my son and daughter in law and meet my new granddaughter for the first time. Lori kept us up to date on how their place was doing during the storm. Hale Kai was not affected even though it is so close to the beach. I knew we were just coming to visit and spend time together. Being originally from Santa Cruz, we didn't need to do any real sight seeing. The house was darling. Made you feel like you were staying in a Sweet Hawaiian Bungalow. The house is furnished beautifully with lots of Hawaiian furniture and memorabilia. There is a fireplace that works in the living room, but we chose to spend most of our time in the family room right off the kitchen. For a rental. this house had just about everything you need to cook in style. I was very impressed by the great assortment of everything you need to make a gourmet meal. The dining table in the formal dining room easily fits 8-10 for sit down dinner or there is the sit up center bar with stools in the kitchen. The bathrooms were filled with everything one might need in case you forgot something. I would love to go back and use their back patio and gas fire area when the weather is better. There is an awesome beach and ocean view from the family room and also on the upper deck seating outside area. I can't say enough good things about Hale Kai. I look forward to staying again in the future. We had just a wonderful, relaxing time with the 4 of us. I can't wait to rock my baby girl on the front porch in the big rockers surrounding the lush hawaiian gardens the next time we come.
This is one of those precious gems that you want to keep to yourself and not share how wonderful it is, but I just can't.

We really loved this house and it’s location. You can walk to the beach. It’s a short drive to Capitola, Soquel, and other places. We brought my 88 year old Mom out for a reunion with our family, which included grand & great grandchildren. The house had plenty of outdoor room , as well as indoor. We would love to stay there again!

Beautifully updated home with Hawaiian vibe in a welcoming neighborhood! Spacious kitchen and dining areas, with comfortable family and living rooms. Plenty of room for a relaxing family vacation (4 adults and baby). Especially loved the two-tiered deck with fire pit and the beach within walking distance! We would definitely stay here again! This house has everything!! We loved our short walk to the beach and beautiful views of the deck from the back decks. It’s right off of a pretty main road it we weren’t bothered by traffic noise at all! Great place for families. The kids loved the toys and tons of VHS movies. Blast from the past.

I stayed at this house for my 5 year-old-son spring break and my older parents. The house was in great location very close to the boardwalk which my son enjoyed. Also short drive to roaring camp railroad which I also recommend. My son and I enjoyed walking to the beach to watch the sunset and she had plenty of beach toys so you dont have to worry about bringing your own. I am sure we ill come back in future!

Perfect Family House
My family and I stayed at the house for a week. It was a perfect family house! Everything was easy (booking, communication, check-in and out), and the house was clean on arrival. The house was stocked with everything we needed, and it was perfect for hosting BBQs with friends. The beach was visible from the back and very easy to get to (a short walk). I would highly recommend this house.

Big & lots of rooms. Big kitchen well stocked. Views were amazing from decks. Lots of out door space for little ones to run around. Short fun walk to the beach. Library was great & lots of games. Steep drive way beware of scraping on low cars. Overall had a wonderful time. Can't wait to come back

Great gateaway location
We enjoyed our stay at Hale Kai. It provided everything we needed for our family vacation. The location was walking distance from the beach. The house was well equipped and beach toys were welcomed bonus.
There was remodeling happening next door which made some of the mornings a bit less pleasant but still it was fun having breakfast with the view of the ocean.
We would visit Hale Kai again if opportunity arises.

Great beach house!
Everything in the listing is as great as described and all pictures are exactly what you will find when you check in! The house is updated, but still represents the great character from an older home. I loved the charm, location, and basically everything about the house. Specifics:
The layout is great! Having 2 living areas was terrific since we had our teenage kids and they needed an indoor space to hang out too. The front room couch pulls out and slept 2 kids comfortably all week.
The back living area is nice and runs alongside the kitchen counter with several seats. You can easily have breakfast with the whole family and not fee cramped at all. I loved how open those 2 rooms were.
The back deck is fantastic! You can hang out up top and see/listen to the ocean or you can light the fireplace and chat. I spent quite a bit of time out on the deck in the mornings and in the evenings. Great size and layout.
The front yard is the first thing you will stop and appreciate when you arrive. It’s definitely a well maintained area and very private. It’s like having a second back yard. Loved the outdoor shower to get rid of the sand.
The location is also fantastic. You can easily walk to the beach, very short drives to the boardwalk attractions and restaurants. You are literally short drives from beautiful rugged coastline views and towering redwoods. I already have ideas on things to go do and see next time!

Great family cottage near the beach.
We had a wonderful time with family at Lori’s house near the beach. Comfortable, well-stocked home with all you need for days at the beach. There was some construction going on next door during the day, but looks like it should be finishing up soon. Easy walk to the beach and short drive to downtown Santa Cruz, Pleasure Point or Capitola.

Perfect House for a Beach Getaway
This house has wonderful indoor/outdoor living spaces. It is comfortable and cute and very well equipped for cooking, game night, beach time and more. The two bathrooms made it great for our trip with our grandsons. The bunkroom with movies was terrific for them. The beach is very close and the views from the deck are terrific. We really enjoyed our time there.

Great location and great space
We had a great time here. Corcoran Beach was visible from the house and only a couple of minutes walk away. There were great food options within 10 minutes in any direction, and it was centrally located to most of everything else we wanted to do.
The house was very nice (and the outdoor shower was great to have), and had lots of beach toys, boogie boards, and other important supplies for the beach. While we didn’t use the back deck very much, or the fire pit at all, the upper deck with the big table and view of the beach was where I started every day and where we invariably ended up at the end of the day.
I’m not quite sure how the space would work for more than 4 people, although you could likely put two kids in each bed of the bunk bed. But anyone sleeping on the pull-out couch in the living room would have to he an early riser, since there aren’t any curtains. (Privacy isn’t an issue, but there’s nothing to keep the room dark.)
The house could have been cleaner, but nothing that would keep me from renting again.

Nice family trip
This is a cute house that is nicely decorated with a beach vibe. It is very close to a great little beach. You can see it from the deck and walk across the street to get to it. We had 4 adults and a toddler and it worked just fine for us. If it was warmer, I would have enjoyed the outside shower after a trip to the beach.

Wonderful getaway

Lovely stay
We enjoyed our short stay especially with the stress of traveling during the pandemic. The house was clean and well stocked. It was close to the the beach. We also drove over to do a relaxing hike at the nearby Henry Cowell Redwood State Park. There is also a lot of good eateries nearby. We really liked the Hawaiian food from Pono Hawaiian Kitchen. Starbucks is a block away and Trader Joe’s is a few miles away.

Family Friendly and Beautiful Backdrop
The house has everything you need for a relaxing beach stay. Our family of 4, including 2 young kids, felt right at home and enjoyed only a 5 minute walk to a great beach. The owner was very accommodating and understanding when it came to this summer's fires and allowed our family to reschedule our stay.
