Ozona Waterfront Mermaid House

Cute waterfront home in the adorable town of Ozona. Close to downtown Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs sponge docks.. Plenty to do and see. Close to the Pinellas Trail, breweries, and fantastic restaurants.

Cute little house. Nice hanging around space. Nice size kitchen you can move around in. The end room is all windows and a lovely place to sit and that’s where the dining room table is as well. There’s a little air conditioner that I would suggest you keep on if you wanted to stay cool in that room in tge heat of summer. Great neighborhood for walking. You are .2 miles from a few places to eat and 10-15 min drive (straight shot) to Honeymoon Island which is beautiful!
Things to keep in mind. The house backs up to water, a bayou right off the Gulf and at low tide it does not smell great (rotting vegetation) so if you are a person that gets bothered by smells just know the backyard does not smell delicious all the time. There are a couple of Kayaks, but they were not functioning. This was not an issue for us, but if you’re interested, just make sure they are in working order before you go. It was nice to have a gas grill so we did grill out one night.

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful cottage home. Our parents and son live in Florida, and the house had plenty of room for them to come visit, eat comfortably on the air conditioned lanai, and fish off the open and amazing dock. The house had everything we needed for our stay, including a washer and dryer. Kitchen was well equipped. We did use the grill, ran out of propane, and the host was very response to help us get a replacement right away so our cooking was uninterrupted! Living room and beds were very comfortable Great location- at night we walked 8 minutes up the quaint tree lined street to listen to live music outside and grab a beer. It was perfect!

Clean, well stocked and maintained. Beautiful on the water in a very quite neighborhood. Coffee in the mornings in the sunroom looking at the peaceful water view. It was a perfect getaway close to everything! Thank you for sharing your little peice of paradise....

We enjoyed our week at The Mermaid House. The house is exactly as described, very clean, and comfortable. My son enjoyed catching some catfish (and a crab!) off the dock. Ozona is a cute area with several restaurants in walking distance. Bring your bikes if you can to take advantage of the Pinellas Trail. Thank you!

5 stars - if you have the opportunity to stay here, just book it! Location is great (Ozona is special!), sitting on the dock watching the dolphins, birds, in the sun, with a glass of wine - well, that's what vacation is about! Restaurants in walking distance, bike trail in 2 minutes, near Honeymoon Island, Dunedin...hosts are great - the neighbors we met were great - seriously, if you are in doubt, just book it. You'll be glad!

What an adorable, comfortable place, and a wonderful neighborhood. The hosts added several 'extras' that really made us feel at home. We greatly enjoyed our holiday stay here (they even set out a countertop tree for the occasion!) and we are considering a return trip next year!

The property was spacious, clean & packed with all the amenities we needed for our 6 night stay. The neighbors are all so friendly & helpful. Quiet neighborhood. Great place for walking to other streets to view sunset. Walking distance to little downtown area. Loved Molly Goodheads. So close to the Pinellas Recreational Trail. We biked from The Mermaid House to Dunedin, had a great lunch at Carvor's Fish House, walked around checking out the shops & then rode bikes over the Dunedin Causeway to Honeymoon Island State Park. This home is very centrally located to all that we wished to see & do. Simply ran out of time. Amber & Greg very responsive & were great hosts.

The Mermaid House in Ozona has everything you need: peace, location, amenities... You're close to great places to eat and hang out; my wife and I really enjoyed our time here. I would recommend to anyone wanting to unwind and enjoy the old Florida charm of Ozona.

We came from Indiana for beach wedding.
The cozy house and quaint neighborhood was perfect for us. The property was accurately described and completely furnished.
My husband caught a tarpon, snook and some catfish off the backyard dock. We were delighted when two manatee come up the canal while we were sitting to enjoy our morning coffee.
We would definitely stay here again.

Very laid-back neighborhood with enough things to do taking the car as well as nearby.
The small center with bars and restaurants is within walking distance, just 0.5 mile. The house is comfortable and cozy.
The bed in the main bedroom could use a new mattress.
Check in and check out procedure is very easy. We met the owner, nice guy.

The mermaid house was perfect. It was very clean and exactly how the listing describes. The backyard is great to spend time in. You have the dock you can sit on over the water to enjoy the sunset. There is plenty of space for you and the family. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again on our next trip to Florida. Thank you Amber for the great experience.

Great location
Stayed 9 nights along with our dogs. House is very quiet and in a quaint laid back neighborhood. Easy access to Honeymoon Island State Park with excellent beach and easy parking and beach access. Enclosed lanai with AC really nice to hang out in and enjoy the view of the backyard area. Would stay here again should we return to the area. Hosts are very responsive to any needs. 4 star vs. 5 star because I reserve 5 star for more luxury type accomodations, but doesn't mean this isn't a very good choice for the price.

We had a wonderful stay. Nice quiet neighborhood, easy access to bike trail and Honeymoon Island. Home was comfortable and had everything we needed. We enjoyed sitting on the dock and watching the jumping fish. Would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful Vacation Home!
We absolutely loved our stay at the Mermaid House! The only problem was that our stay was way to short! Loved the cute decor and quiet neighborhood. Neighbors were really nice and chatted with us! Everything was completely furnished with all your needs! Will definately stay again and try to get a longer reservation next time! I can see why this place is always booked! Fabulous February in Florida
The Mermaid House is a gem. Agree with all the past previous positive reviews. The perfect place to spend a week and work remotely. Tasteless decorated. Loved how quiet neighborhood was. Loved hearing the birds. Loved how close it was to Bike trail. Loved the quaintness of Ozona and restaurant suggestion Loved the proximity to Steve’s Produce. Loved that we brought our life vest for kayak adventure. One of best rentals ever!

Observations
Pre-rental
Communications were all clear, concise, and courteous. Amber was quick to respond and the arrangements went smoothly. Arrival details were clear. House rules were clearly spelled out and very reasonable.
First Impressions
Area is attractive, both the general surroundings and the immediate neighborhood. Plenty of convenient shopping, and lots of great restaurants, particularly if you’re a fan of seafood or microbreweries. .
As can be seen in the description, the house isn’t all that large (at least compared to our own home – 2600 ft2). But the layout is open and well organized, so it seems spacious. Furnishings, appliances, and kitchenware are all first rate and 100% working.
All the equipment and supplies were as described.
As noted in the description, this is styled as “The Mermaid House”. If you’re a mermaid fan you’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven! From the full size mermaid trunk and tail in the garden, to the mermaid drawer pulls, Amber has gone overboard. The theme is supplemented with general coastal decorations. We actually have one bathroom in our home with similar decorations but we’re nowhere near Amber’s league!
If you’re a boater, be prepared to be jealous of the neighbors’ boats! Though if you bring your own there is a full dock, including a hoist to get the craft out of the water.
Wife and son were also delighted.
Things to be aware of:
We had one puzzle upon arrival. My wife and son arrived ahead of me due to complicated travel arrangements and complained that there was just one bathroom.. Later we discovered that the second bathroom was there… but accessed from the garage. Facilities were clean and fresh, just oddly located.
Summing it up: We were disappointed about only one thing… we learned that the unit had been rented for the full 2023 season already and we couldn’t come back right away! Thanks to Amber for a great experience.

Magic at the Mermaid House
We enjoyed our stay at the Mermaid House. Easy walk to downtown Ozona, and not far from the Pinellas Trail (I brought my own folding bike). Large enough house that my wife's parents could visit a couple of days; while her parents used the main bedroom and bath, we switched to the nicely updated shower and facilities accessible through the garage. Also notable: I had a zoom business meeting where one colleague gasped "is that a dock in your background?!?". Why, yes; yes it is.
Entering and exiting Ozona is most convenient using the traffic light on Tampa Road. We like the Cool Gelato shop in nearby downtown Palm Harbor. A short drive to US19 put us at Olive Garden, a favorite of her parents. Tampa Road has a small Winn-Dixie for groceries. We rarely missed a sunset on the Dunedin Causeway, because I like sunsets and the Causeway view is fabulous and convenient. We all enjoyed watching the manatees at Craig Park in Tarpon Springs one fine afternoon.
