We spent a week at the Big Red House (BRH) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Brie and the BRH team were very helpful and responsive with lots of proactive communications. The location was fantastic. Easy access to downtown St. John’s (~15 minute drive) and proximity to many of the East Coast Trails - with two sections within easy walking distance. The House itself was amazing. The large treed lot provides complete privacy and the views from the second floor are awe inspiring. We found the house was inviting and comfortable with all the amenities and equipment one would need for an enjoyable stay. We loved our stay and will be back at some point soon… Newfoundland is just too beautiful and the people are soooo friendly.

The location of this property is amazing! It is perfectly located to overlook the water and feel surrounded by forest and nature while being close to everything. My family had a great stay while exploring and visiting family in town. Highly recommend this rental!

The Big Red House vacation was one of the best vacations we have ever had. Its close proximity to the city and the East Coast Trail was a huge bonus. The BRH was everything it is advertised as and more. I would highly recommend this property and we plan on coming back next year!!!

Wow! What an incredible stay at the Red Big House! From the moment we walked through the door, we felt right at home. The space was beautifully designed, clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The attention to detail was exceptional, from the welcome package to the amenities provided. The host was amazing, always available and willing to assist with anything we needed. The location was perfect, too, with stunning views and easy access to nearby attractions. Thank you for making our stay memorable and unforgettable. We will definitely be recommending the Big Red House to all of our friends and family!

We had a fantastic stay at the BRH. All the family came up to celebrate Loretta, the matriarch of the Manning's family. The house was so spacious and fully equipped. Like really, fully equipped from laundry accessibility to every pot and pans you could need, it was there. :) We were pleasantly surprised that there were so many toys for our grand-children. The view from the master bedroom was just stunning. We enjoyed to see the full moon too! We loved our stay at the BRH but we have to mention that Brie and her team went above and beyond to ensure that the place was scent free. This made our stay very safe. Thank you! This was the perfect spot for a group with kids: spacious, tons of windows, large property with tons of space for kiddos to play. Surrounded by trees and lulled to sleep by the sounds of the ocean - you could easily forget you're only 15 minutes from everything (downtown, Signal Hill, the Rooms, Bannerman Park, Avalon Mall, etc.) and minutes to beautiful Middle Cove Beach. Also: great accoustics for music/sing-a-longs.

What a great house and tremdous host. I went there with family as my Grandparents had grown up in the area.
Brie wrote us ahead of time with suggested restaurants and the house was spotless and perfect ...what a super home and we were priviledged to be their guests.
My family had an awesome experience and Brie and the Big Red House made it even better. Thank you !

We really enjoyed our stay ar the Big Red House. It was a great location, private and yet close to everything we wanted to see on our vacation. It is a large house, which was great for our large family to spread out, and relax.

We travelled to St. John’s for the first time and needed a large enough place to accommodate 8 adults. This place delivered! It is beautiful and spacious and has everything you would ever need. The location in Torbay did not prove to be a challenge to get into St. John’s for most of our activities and in fact showed us another beautiful part of Newfoundland. It is the perfect retreat after a full day of sightseeing and I highly recommend a rest in the hammock!

Staying at the Big Red House was a highlight of our trip to Newfoundland in August. It is close to St. John’s and the attractions of the Avalon Peninsula. The house was spacious and clean, with all of the amenities you could wish for - perfect for a family getaway. The view of the ocean from the master bedroom is spectacular. Beautiful sunrises! I only hope I can bring the family back for another visit.

This was a fabulous home to rent. Can't give enough compliments! Extremely clean, very spacious, bright with so many windows, amazing view, kitchen was delightful with every available option for cooking, the deck and ground were wonderful and well kept. There were * books *games* barbeque*basketball* the list goes on!
This home made our vacation such a pleasure!

Brie's house is beautiful, extremely well equipped, pleasant and with a lot of thoughtful details (little helping notes, sleeping masks in the master bedroom, etc.) . We had a lot of space, and the view from upstairs (master bed room, especially) is breath taking. Thank you, Brie!

A wonderful house and home!
We loved the house and all the little personal touches that the family did for us. And when the water heater broke, it was fixed that very afternoon. The only problem for us was that it was at the end of a road in a subdivision of Torbay, though higher up and isolated from its neighbors. We had thought that it was more isolated and further from civilization, and closer to the ocean. But we would wholeheartedly recommend this house for its design, cosiness, cleanliness, quaintness, wonderful views of the ocean, and proximity to The East Coast Trail. Thank you, Brie and family! One suggestion: blinds in the windows in the master bedroom. :)

The Big Red House was a 10/10
The BRH is set on a beautiful property with amazing views. Centrally located to beaches, swimming holes, restaurants, St. John’s, Signal Hill and much more. The house is easy to navigate with any direction you might need clearly displayed. The BRH has everything you could need; the hosts thought of it all! Would recommend this property to anyone looking to visit!

Family Reunion in Newfoundland
We had a family reunion in Newfoundland and found the Big Red House through VRBO. It was awesome in all aspects from the views, to the space and the location. We went to other homes that family members had booked through VRBO and none compared to the BRH. The property manager was great. We had frequent communications and she was very timely in her responses. The master bedroom was beautiful. If our kids were younger they would have enjoyed the bunk beds and the tunnel connecting the rooms. Overall, this was a great experience in a beautiful county. Thank you.

This property has a terrific location - you have nature at your doorstep but it's close enough to St. John's that you can get into the city pretty easily. The house itself is also very nice. Lots of space, well maintained grounds, and wonderful views in every direction. In addition, Brie was a pleasure to deal with. As some other reviewers have noted, there are no window coverings in the master bedroom so be prepared to wake up with the sun.

This house was perfect for our stay, room enough for 2 families with children.
The kids loved the bunks and secret crawl space. Games and toys plus outside space and close to a beautiful trail.
The grownups loved the huge, open entertainment space and beautiful scenery.

Superb rental
Terrific home, all amenities, easy commute to restaurants, sites of interest, grocery stores etc. Very modern. And I agree with some of the other reviews re the need to install blinds in the master bedroom with all the windows; early wake-up on holidays :) A few minor suggestions re kitchen: need set of stainless steel bowls for mixing, serving (salads, for example, only 1 small bowl); bigger-sized mugs for coffee; and a large (Pyrex) casserole dish. We would rate the Big Red House (Salt Box) at 10/10

Wonderful location, great house.
We had one couple, that stayed in the master bedroom, which was amazing, and three adults who each had their own room. Each smaller room had a bunk style bed also, they are up a ladder.
The house was amazing. Beautiful view, property, and amenities. Great kitchen, well stocked with everything you might need. Bathrooms and laundry room were great.
Location was easy to get to. Far enough away from St John's to be nice. It is close to the airport.
Make sure you do the walk to Torbay Point, it is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The owners of the house are wonderful and very helpful before we even got there and stayed in touch all of the time.
The house feels new and modern and very comfortable.
We would come back to this house on a moments notice if we could and certainly were sad to leave.

Beautiful House & Property
The Big Red House was awesome for our family.....lots of room, lots of beds for everyone, very spacious and comfortable. It was just an awesome home and the view was fantastic. Being from eastern Newfoundland made it even more appealing to all our family.
Now, I would like to address a couple of things, although it wouldn't be a deterrent to me from renting the Big Red House again:
First, I would suggest having a binder set aside (as in a hotel or condo) with all pertinent information such as: how to operate the heating controls (ie) thermostats, lighting controls, TV controls or other media available. Also, garbage, recycling or other things that could have been easier to follow if located in one location, as the binder. Written notes on individual light switches, was a little difficult to read. It was very small print (hard to see for a man of my age)..
The only thing I sort of disliked was no curtains or shade in the master bedroom. The sun in the morning, although beautiful, had me waking up around 6 am every morning (senior citizen). The other bedrooms did have curtains or other hangings.
So, I hope my feedback doesn't appear to be too critical as it is not meant to be like that. The house was awesome and thank you so much for letting our family stay at your home.

Lots of space and amazing views!
We really enjoyed our stay, there was loads of room for the kids to run around. The master suite was very comfortable and is the obvious star of the house. The other 3 bedrooms are quite small, and the beds are not comfortable. Great for kids, but adults may find the beds hard. The ensuite bathroom is luxurious, but the second bathroom is very small, especially the shower. We had to continually wash our towels as there was only one set per room. The open concept downstairs has plenty of room for get togethers, kids play, cooking and bbqing. The kitchen was very well equipped. There is no cable TV, we had to stream shows, but you probably do not want to spend time watching TV anyway! The property is lovely, very quiet and private, treed, with a big backyard, BBQ and hammock. A great place to relax and unwind, while still being close to shopping and city amenities. The host provides absolutely excellent communication and service and made our stay that much better.
