Returning to the Chicagoland area after a 38-year hiatus, I along with 2 of my boys were delighted by our stay at this basement apartment in Oak Park. This experience was my first time using VRBO, and it couldn't have been more positive.
As someone who grew up in nearby Forest Park, returning to the area and experiencing it from a visitor's perspective was a unique and nostalgic experience.
The highlight of the apartment is the vast living room and dining room area, which is perfect for gatherings or simply unwinding after a day of exploring. The dining table seats eight, making it ideal for enjoying meals together. The living room features a flat-screen TV with a basic cable package, offering a cozy spot to relax and watch your favorite shows.

VERY clean, location was perfect for our family as we wanted to experience using public transportation to get to downtown. 2 minute walk to the nearest bus stop and about 20 minute walk through very nice area to the train (we did both and you can take the bus to the train station too). Neighborhood is lovely. Owner is on site and available via text if there is an issue but there never was. Unit is completely separate from rest of house. We were very pleased.

The property was wonderful and exactly as described. The kitchen was well stocked and i always appreciate owners who provide coffee filters, salt, pepper, sugar, among other kitchen staples. It makes traveling so much better to have dish detergent as well! I was especially impressed with the special makeup remover washcloths (I travel with makeup remover and cotton balls) but also seeing nice washcloths demonstrates the owner's attention to detail. Beds were very comfortable and we had plenty of space. Five stars. Highly recommend!

We loved staying here while helping our kid move into the dorms nearby! The neighborhood is great and it’s close to everything you could want. The apartment is in the basement of the house, but there are high windows letting some daylight in, it’s very spacious, and the owners are right upstairs & very helpful with whatever you need. There is one bathroom but it is conveniently located for all to use, with enough space and towel racks. We really liked all the shelves, dressers, closet space, kitchen cabinet space, etc to put our things in! We look forward to staying here again, thanks Dan and Amy!

The property location was perfect in a beautiful and safe suburb about 9 miles from downtown Chicago. The neighborhood included Frank Lloyd Wright's former home architecture studio and about 25 of the houses he designed. There was all kinds of shopping and restaurants within a mile of the property, but it was on a quiet residential street. The inside was spacious, modern, comfortable, and beautifully decorated in Frank Lloyd Wright decor and style. We had everything we needed, except a few more wash cloths, but there was a washer and dryer so we could wash anything we needed. If we ever go back to the Chicago area we'll certainly stay there again.

Having never been in the Chicago area before we were unsure where to stay. This ended up being perfect for us. The neighborhood is safe and has so many great features Frank Lloyd Wright homes, plenty of great dining options, and just about a 20 minute drive to the city. The rental was clean and easily accessible. The hosts have done a great job decorating with lots of Wright style pieces. We loved our stay and if we ever return to the Chicago area we would check this rental first.

Charming Oak Park Apartment
When we travel we embrace the philosophy of “live like a temporary local.” Our four-nights at The Prairie Apartment brought back all of the wonderful memories we have of living in Oak Park 32 years ago when we were newly married and starting our family. The apartment is situated at the basement level of a beautiful family home in the heart of charming and historic Oak Park. We walked to the Frank Lloyd House and Studio and local restaurants and coffee shops. It was only a 20-minute drive to Chicago for our day in the city, and we did some shopping, and I had a luxurious pedi/mani at the Nordstrom Spa at upscale Oak Brook shopping center (15 minutes away). The owners live upstairs, but they were very quiet, and we were well rested during our stay. Having such a large kitchen and living area was so nice. The owners have stocked the kitchen with everyday essentials. There were plenty of hangers and even dressers for storage. We especially appreciated Dan’s excellent communication. If you like architecture, history and walking in gorgeous Midwestern neighborhoods, we highly recommend this VRBO.

Easy check-in/check out. Property is in a beautiful quiet neighborhood. Felt very safe. Walking distance to many Frank Lloyd Wright homes. Highly recommend touring the area. Near the Green line which will take you all the way to downtown. Would definitely stay here again.

Winter stay.
We stayed here for over a week getting our son set up for his new job in Chicago. It was very centrally located for apartment hunting and shopping. The restaurants are all walkable if you bundle up since we were there in January. The neighborhood is beautifully maintained with gorgeous houses. The apartment felt very comfortable and super cozy with the gas fireplace especially during the snow storm. We would not hesitate to stay again, really enjoyed the apartment and Oak Park.

We were surprised to find a basement apartment that felt like a second floor apartment. That's probably because the ceilings were so high. It was spotless, the bathroom was roomie and the water hot. The kitchen was very well stocked with all kinds of cooking utensils, pots and pans. This apartment is in the heart of a wonderful neighborhood filled with 26 Frank Lloyd Wright homes. There's SO many stores and restaurants within walking or short driving distance. Yes, we WILL go back.

My family of four had a comfortable stay. The rental description was accurate and all of the amenities that you take for granted when you travel were in place. Weekend stay
This property was exactly as advertised. We stayed mostly to visit Chicago with our family for the weekend (which it is conveniently located for). But Oak Park, its history and the surrounding neighborhood are so wonderful it really added a nice change up from the days in the city. Dan the host was responsive when needed but you’d never know there was a family living upstairs.

My dad, sister, and her 2 teenage kids really enjoyed staying in this beautiful unit while they were visiting me in Oak Park. It was spacious, clean and well-supplied. And even though it's a lower-level unit, it's bright and well-lit. The location can't be beat for access to Oak Park restaurants and attractions. Thanks for a great stay!

A great base for Chicago
The apartment was great. It's very spacious and comfortable in a lovely quiet neighbourhood. We just had a short stay at the end of our trip and took an Uber into Chicago and the train back. Both were fine and we felt reasonably close to downtown Chicago.

We really enjoy being in this place. It has everything you need. My husband was skeptical of the 5 stars, "no place can be that perfect", and he was wrong! Dan and his family thought about everything a guest might need and supplied those needs.

Great place!
The rental is very nice- there are a lot of Frank Lloyd Wright style decorations, which is a great motivator to check out the house he designed just a few blocks away!
Most of our time for the trip was spent downtown. The "commute" to get there was about a 20 minute walk to the train station and about a 40 minute train ride to the Grant Park area.
The neighborhood was nice and felt safe- we often saw others walking while we were out, and we passed many nice restaurants and places to hang out along the way.
Thanks to Dan and his family for giving us a great place to stay for our trip!

My family of 4 (parents, “kids” aged 20 and 17) stayed for a week in this darling place. Hardwoods throughout, tons of space, great kitchen and bathroom. The neighborhood is so quiet and lovely. Walking distance to everything. There are 2 metro (L) lines in the town that both get you to downtown Chicago easily. The town has cute parks and a great walking tour of Frank Lloyd Wright homes. Stunning!! Dan was a dream to work with. Check in and out were a breeze and Dan was always very responsive to any question I had before arriving. Highly recommend!

Our family of 5 had never been to Chicago before, so we were really relying on information provided about the location of the property in the listing description. It was exactly as stated. Close to the train, convenient to shopping, and close to the Frank Lloyd Wright home/studio.
The owners are very accommodating, and everything we needed was in the apartment! There were even maps and brochures to different sights in Chicago--VERY helpful to us!
Parking is on site. The apartment is very clean!

Perfect Choice
This apartment was perfect for our family of 4 adults and the walk to the Green Line of the CTA that will take you into Chicago was pleasant. Oak Park has a nice downtown with numerous restaurants, supermarkets and a movie theatre.
The photos show the apartment accurately and was well stocked with all that we needed. Our family agreed that it was a terrific place from which to explore Chicago and its suburbs.

Perfect place
We are a family of 4 and this property was great. The one bathroom was a bit of an issue for us (two teenage girls) but we made it work well. Very comfortable and owners were quick to respond and very helpful. One recommendation would be for a full length mirror somewhere in the house but otherwise we had everything we needed and were very happy with this property.
