Sunset House: Rustic Maine Cottage Perched High Above Fishing Village with Harbor Views

Very well and nicely appointed with thought to whatever you might need. Veronica was very responsive.

Loved the property. Especially loved the walk in showers. Seemed like all new appliances. Very comfortable. The 2 living areas are nice and we liked being mostly on the second floor for the views! Thanks

The location was lovely. Close to all our destinations on the coast. Loved the small town. The home was nice. Enjoyed the fire pit!

We enjoyed our time here. It was comfortable, quiet and peaceful. The conveniences were nice too; dishwasher, washer/ dryer, good amount of fans and a full working kitchen for cooking.

We’ve stayed in Port Clyde for several years now for our week vacation and this was the first time in this property. It has a lovely living space. The kitchen is amazing and well equipped. The deck has wonderful view. The master bedroom was spacious and very comfortable. The second bedroom is good for 2 children, but not enough space for two adults in our opinion. Despite that, we would return to this property.

Always a beautiful stay in Port Clyde. Fabulous view from the deck… everything you would possibly need!

We had a lovely stay, location and house were perfect.

The Sunset House lived up to its name. Beautiful views of the harbor and islands and well maintained. We have stayed at numerous properties through VRBO and this was probably the best equipped of any. Kitchen was very well stocked with quality products and any implement needed. Location was perfect and convenient to local attractions and provisions. Thorough and prompt communication with Veronika the manager. We'll be back!

This property is an ideal, spacious seaside cottage with views from almost every room. The kitchen was beautifully equipped and the whole house has a cozy vibe to it. We enjoyed board games, reading and most of all, hanging out on the upper deck - spectacular sunsets! The location is excellent; just a short walk down to the docks and village center. We found our stay here comfortable and relaxing - just great in every way! We would like to come back next year!

The Sunset house was the perfect place to spend our summer vacation. The views are stunning, the house was stocked as well as any rental I’ve seen, especially the kitchen. We appreciated all the little touches and the perfect balance of rustic and modern. Would highly recommend. Port Clyde is very quaint. The ice cream parlor was a nightly stop and the General Store has everything we needed.

Sunset House was a cute cottage with Maine characteristics. We especially enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the sunset over Port. Clyde.

We enjoyed our stay. View of water was great. Unfortunately the week we stayed it was very foggy. House was very clean and well kept. Neat items (baskets, pots, pictures, books) through out the house. We liked the 2 living room areas. Great place to stay.

Fire was perfect for the fall days and nights! Looking forward to visiting Port Clyde again!

Sunset House was well equipped with all needs and many extras. The weather was chilly but our group enjoyed sunshine on the deck and a cozy fire in the wood stove. We wanted peace and quiet, and at this time of year, Port Clyde was the place for it.

The place was beautiful, but not as close to the water as the pictures show. Very clean and nicely decorated. Very little flatware, only 4 towels for 4 people for a week, and very few electrical outlets.

Fab week w/ 4 adults at Sunset House. Perfect size for two couples, as long as one couple doesn't mind sleeping in twin beds. Great location to walk to town and Marshall Point Lighthouse. House had all the necessities for lots of cooking, spreading out, relaxing, playing games, and just watching the sunsets and activity in the harbor. This was my 12th year in Midcoast Maine and 8th year staying in Port Clyde and we found this house to be our favorite so far! Veronika communicates thoroughly and in a timely fashion, and check-in and check-out couldn't be easier. See you next year, Sunset House!

This is a perfect vacation home in the most magical spot. It’s walking distance to town with its cute general store, coffee shop and bar. We walked into town most mornings for coffee and to appreciate the spectacular view. The best beach is just a mile away, perfect for dogs at low tide and for swimming at high tide. The lighthouse is also a nice walk away and we went there multiple times. The house itself is well equipped. We ended up cooking more than we thought we would because it was just so lovely to eat on the patio and watch the sun set and the kitchen had everything we needed. Lots of local farms around and fresh fish right in the village. There’s kayaking as well in walking distance plus the ferry to Monhegan island. We stayed 2 weeks and wished we could stay longer! We hope to be back next year.

Sunset House had everything we needed for our week stay. The bedrooms downstairs were very comfortable as was the downstairs living area. Plenty of couch space for two teen kids to sprawl. The kitchen was well stocked with all we needed to cook, and there was a large kitchen table to gather. The accompanying porch/balcony just off the kitchen and upstairs living area provided a perfect place to view the harbor and sunsets (or to work as needed). And the location - on a quiet road but a short walk to the general store (and basketball court for teens that like to hoop) was perfect.

We had a spectacular view of July 4th fireworks from the deck. Easy work to Port Clyde for ice cream. Just enough backyard for children to run around a bit. It was a last-minute choice and the house worked out very well for us.

Within walking distance to Port Clyde general store, Monhegan ferry boat, and restaurants. Beautiful views from the deck. Plenty of comfortable seating, lots of room for entertaining although the cottage only sleeps 4. We’ve never stayed at a place which such a well equipped kitchen full of anything you might want for cooking in.

Sunset House was everything we could have asked for and more - perfect walk to town location, outstanding views, spacious yet cozy house with room to spread out and room to gather, glorious deck and spacious back yard with fire pit and corn hole! Kitchen was charming and well supplied. We loved every minute and will definitely be back!

Lovely renovated cottage sitting upon a hill, with views overlooking the cove. We visited Port Clyde for the first time over the 4th holiday period, staying 12 nights. Port Clyde is scenic, peaceful and full of delightful surprise. Several art galleries and artist studios dot the peninsula, including one featuring the works of Jamie Wyeth, as as his father and grandfather. House itself is very well appointed; we ended up having to cook more than we would normally do on vacation, and found the updated kitchen to be a wonderful resource. The property is very close to the port itself, an easy walk to restaurants, galleries, and the general store. Also situated close to the lobster co-op, where the local lobstermen are able to sell their harvest directly from the docks. All together charming visit. Veronika, the property manager, is very easy to deal with, and was proactive in alerting us to the local fireworks display - both for our enjoyment as well as for the comfort of our Corgi dog. Five-star stay.

For me, Port Clyde is a calling. The home we rented this year was perfect for us and especially for our fifteen year old grandson who loved the rusticity of it. Where else might we see an eagle and falcon within a few hours of arrival?
Lovely, clean, calm with everything we needed for the week. Thank you for the memories! c

Our experience at the Sunset Cottage was a dream! Those sunset views are stunning. The house itself is beyond charming, my daughters loved the sleep loft and spent hours playing up there. The kitchen is well outfitted - beyond my expectations. Our stay here was wonderful!

"Sunset" sits on a high-point above the charming (and active) fishing village of Port Clyde, Maine. With spectacular views across the Harbor towards one of the most photogenic spots along the highly-photogenic Penobscott Bay, one quickly understands why so many consider the rocky coast of Maine one of the country's treasures. The cottage itself is, at first glance, strangely layer out: the bedrooms (two) are on the ground floor, and the living spaces are above. But the living room, dining area, kitchen and awesome deck are elevated for that stunning view, and with the notable exception that the only bathroom is on the second floor (meaning stair climbs from your bedroom!), it all makes perfect sense. There's a sleeping loft above the bathroom, which would be great for the nimble. We stayed down below....The interior is raw and uninsulated, with exposed wiring. This could be a problem for those families with inquisitive toddlers, but it works aesthetically with the relaxed and uncomplicated nature of the cottage and the locale. Don't expect a polished hotel room. This is on the edge of rustic. I personally wouldn't want it any other way.
Linda Bean (of the LL Bean family) has done a great job at improving the food offerings in Port Clyde, while not disturbing the sense of place. the Dip Net on the pier behind the General Store (a mere 5 minutes walk from the cottage) has great food and awesome views, if the service is somewhat sporadic (college kids rarely make for attentive wait staff). There's another more local spot called the Black Harpoon with really good food, and an awesome local vibe in the bar (the dining room is sadly soulless).
A little criticism: there are no lights in the entry way of the lower floor, and the stairs (winders) can be a bit challenging at night without that light.

This house was immaculate and very roomy. Our family of four had comfortable beds with quality duvets and plush bath towels. It was well stocked and a pleasure to stay in this past week. It has a wonderful view of Port Clyde harbor and is walking distance to the village (Port Clyde General Store, boat dock, ice cream parlor, art galleries).
Our only suggestion would be more/better lighting in the family room and entrance hall.
