Worst house I ever rented
Worst house I ever rented
Spiders everywhere inside and out. Couldn’t even walk up to the front door without running into them. Roaches throughout the house. AC on lower level wouldn’t work. Stairs going down from the main floor were so slippery that my dog fell down a couple of times. I wouldn’t even put my dog in the outside shower it was so dirty. Half the outlets in the bathroom didn’t work. When AC ran on the main floor it created a lake in the driveway. I don’t think the owner should be able to rent this property until he or she fixes the problems.

This property met our needs very well. Beds were very comfortable, kitchen well stocked for cooking meals. Beautiful ocean views. Agency was very quick to attend to issues with the hot water (fixed same day that was reported).

Beautiful House!
Beautiful House!
The house was lovely, clean, and in excellent condition. (It’s a beach house and has been well lived-in and loved.) The red kitchen counters in the photos have been replaced with a much nicer sand color. Easy beach access, and a delightful neighborhood for walking the dog. Speaking of the dog: my miniature schnauzer is disappointed to report that the rats promised in last year’s reviews are all gone. There were no mice, either. She only had neighbors and a construction crew working on the house next door to bark at and try to chase! Hope to stay here again on my next visit to the Outer Banks.

Not at great at the pictures!
Not at great at the pictures!
Picked this place because it was pet friendly and on the beach. The place was spider and cob web ridden, the beds were not comfortable, the stains on the couches and rugs were sticky. The dishes were not clean and there was a coffee pot that smelled like death on the stove. I contacted the rental company and they asked to send cleaners, but it was too late. My family of 6 had unpacked and I had my older mother didn’t want to make a fuss so we stayed and I told the rental company that the cleaners couldn’t doanything to the stains and rugs short of shampooing or replacing, so we Stayed. Was it the worst place, no. Will I be sure to read the reviews again before I choose, yes. I would not recommend the property unless all furniture and bedding and kitchen supplies get an upgrade. We had to go out and get our own because everything looks filthy.

No Excuses for the condition of this home
No Excuses for the condition of this home
Quite frankly, the home should not be rented to anyone based on its current condition. I understand the homeowner may not live in the area and more than likely is relying on property management to ensure adequate upkeep of the property. For this reason, the property management company should be fired. I will never rent from Outer Banks Blue again based on the low standards they obviously uphold. Upon arriving at the home, large black spots were found on the couch, which we thought were slugs. Upon further inspection of the couch, the kitchen floor and countertops, we learned the spots were rat feces. These were not small minute pieces of mouse feces. In addition to the fecal stains, the furniture is heavily stained and completely worn out. The next issue we encountered was round, yellow stains on a comforter in the main level, front bedroom with twin beds. Throughout the home were cobwebs, virtually in every corner, across mirrors and lamps. Dust was in crevices of the paneled walls, ceiling fans, covering the televisions, and dressers. The ceiling fans were not turned on due to the amount of visible, thick dust on them. The paneling leading downstairs, close to the bottom of the stairs has some sort of white substance smeared on the walls. As we put groceries away, we discovered rat feces in cabinets and drawers within the kitchen. The refrigerator door has been damaged and repaired with duct tape in order to allow the guest to place condiments within the space. The drawers within the refrigerator are filthy and have a sticky substance in them. light switches do not operate lighting to enter a room. You must walk into the room and turn on a lamp. It was then we noticed a problem with lighting which would constantly flicker and/or dim when other lighting and/or appliances were in use. The disconnect box located outside the home was rusted out and had live exposed wires capable of killing anyone in contact with them. As well, maybe the problem with the lighting is due to the rat problem within the home and wires are being chewed on causing a short. When the microwave is in use, the lighting within the home is brighter. When the washer and dryer are being used the lighting will constantly flicker.

Disappointing
Disappointing
The location and size of this property was perfect for our small group. Initially we needed a dog friendly property and so I overlooked some of the things in the pictures that showed the property to be somewhat run down. The house itself needs some serious attention and an exterminator! The under side of the house and outdoor shower and all decks were virtually unable to be used given the insanely huge spiders in the outdoor shower and spiderwebs on literally every inch of all decks. Hanging out a towel to dry was an absolute NO. We could hear animals in the wall scratching and chewing. At one point during the week we had to contact the rental property manager because one of the bathrooms started to have a smell - like something died in the wall or the floor - which it probably did! The living room furniture was very dirty and stained. The house itself was also VERY dusty and not thoroughly cleaned. On the surface things looked ok but if you moved a chair or turned on a ceiling fan things took quite a different turn. The houses electrical wiring also needs some attention if you use the washing machine the entire houses lights flicker along with the cycle, which is quite annoying. After driving 10 hours we didn’t have much of a choice but to put up with all of these things but it certainly put a damper on our time away. We chose not to bring up every single issue while away as we didn’t want to have to worry about staff/workers entering the property for our entire stay. I think that this property should be retired and given some serious attention! The fact that it is being presented as a rental and the regular prices are being charged is absurd. We will most certainly return to the Outer Banks but DEFINITELY not anywhere near this property!

Family reunion rental recap
Family reunion rental recap
Size and location of home was great and the fact that it was pet friendly was one of our preferences. We paid for early check-in at 1 pm but we arrived before the cleaning crew, so I contacted Outer Banks Blue who said the extra fee would be reimbursed (hopefully it will). We knew the house looked a bit “worn” from the online photos. The LR furniture was heavily stained and in need of steam cleaning or new slip covers. Walls in bedrooms had multiple cobwebs noted, and cobwebs on rafters in LR/kitchen, dining room furniture etc. Morning after arrival Outer Banks Blue (OBB) texted to see how everything was so I reported the lack of cleanliness, and made them aware the toilet paper and towel bar in one bathroom was broken, light fixture in another bath was hanging from ceiling, and a few other minor things. They sent a maintenance person out who fixed these items. He said he would be back the following day to address cobwebs but didn’t return. The following day we identified another issue, we had a rodent or rodents in the house, overnight a package of burger buns and a mango had been partially eaten. Rat poop was noted on the floor, so I contacted OBB again, they sent a tech out who confirmed our suspicion, found evidence of openings and chewed wood under the house and he said he would be back to start treatment, traps with peanut butter, he came back two more times, but the rat was not caught, although we did not have anything else eaten in the house, and did not leave anything on the counter anymore! We had a great reunion and enjoyed spending time together, but were a bit disappointed in the lack of cleanliness and general maintenance of the home, lightbulbs in bedrooms and bathrooms were low wattage, home smelled like mildew so we purchased air fresheners for 2 BR on lower level. I’d consider renting thru OBB again, but don’t know that I’d return to this specific home without some reassurance that routine maintenance was performed going forward and that the housekeeping supervisor who came as the crew was departing did a more thorough job in her “inspection”.
