Le Loft à Back River Bend offre un charme unique et des vues imprenables sur la rivière. Les meubles rustiques confortables, les hôtes réactifs et les attractions à proximité telles que le parc d'État de Reid en font un séjour délicieux !

It was wonderful! I called it the "Shipwright's loft".
For me it was the quintessential Maine experience. Staying above a shipyard workshop (Comfortably), enjoying the most phenomenal lobster in the world, plenty of things to do while I wasn't learning timber framing.
And that view!! Absolutely beautiful!

I didn't have a problem with the stay but the place had an infestation with carpenter ants I didn't count how many I killed but in the seven I am sure it was at 1east 20 probably more

We arrived at 9:30 and there were no sheets or towels. It is in the listing it said they were provided. The place was dirty, full of dog hair on the blanket thrown over the bed, cob webs, a lot, in the bathroom and bathroom, huge ants everywhere. It said coin operated washing machine. We contacted the manager and she said it was 12 minutes away! The water smelled so bad of sulfur that it made me sick when I took a shower. The toilet was stained so badly it needed replaced. All of the furnishings looked like they picked them up along the road. The bed was so lumpy and squeaked very time you moved. When I texted her my complaints when my granddaughter and I left she wrote back and said the place is the way it is so that anyone can afford it! What the hell does that mean. I was able to find another apartment that was delightful and well taken care of, presentable furniture and clean. I had to pay $600. The decision she made was to give me back my pet deposit of $50 because I made it clear that I didn’t bring my dog and the cleaning fee of $50. I want all of the money back. We were there Sat night and Sunday leaving Monday at three. I have stayed many places in Maine over the years and never had to leave one of them because so many things were wrong.
Please tell what the next step should be.

The Loft at Back River Bend is a unique and charming space. The high ceilings and wall of windows overlooking the bend in the river provide always-moving beautiful views.
The Loft is well appointed with a rustic feeling and very comfortable furnishings; overall this is a Wow!
And the hosts were always responsive and attentive. Thanks, Katie!

Loft with great views
My husband and I rented this place for a week. We really enjoyed our stay. It was quiet and surien. Reids state park was awesome and not far at all from where you are staying and comes with a pass so you don't have to pay. There is also a lobster warf and little shops near by as well. My only complaint was the bed was a little worn and not that comfortable and no washer or dryer or microwave 🤔

Great little spot to rest, work and explore the area. The loft was clean, updated, with all you need. A 15 min drive to Reid State Park - a gorgeous place to walk your dog. There are multiple cottages on the large property but they are well spaced out. Very close, 5-10 min drive, to Bath for grocery shopping: a Shaws and a Bath Natural Market. Looking forward to a return visit!

The Loft
Katie and Chris were excellent hosts and very responsive to a few needs we had in the beginning of our stay. The location is marvelous. The view from the apartment is lovely and one can observe the tidal changes in the river. The property has beautiful gardens and a warm family feel. We appreciated that there were a few good restaurants nearby despite the rural setting. And of course Reid and Popham beaches are amazing.

Views are amazing
We enjoyed our stay at the Loft. The view from the loft was amazing and the property was as described. The owner's garden was expansive and she shared some of her vegetables.
I saw a few reviews regarding the sulfur content in the water - the owner does supply a few gallons of water to get you started. We brought a Britta water filter that we used for cooking water, but it was not enough for drinkable water. I have a very sensitive nose and sometimes the faucet water caught me off guard, but after the water ran a bit, it was much better.
One thing to note - the garage under the loft had a lot of activity, so if you are a late sleeper or plan to spend the day at the loft, it can get noisy.
Thanks for sharing your home with us.

A quiet slice of Maine
One fine, quiet Maine getaway. But still so close to all your basic needs. A beautiful view of a tidal cove awaited me at every hour when I was on the property. And on clear nights, the entire Milky Way beckoned. Comfortable queen bed after that. A fine, relaxed low-key vacation for a return visitor to the area. If you so desire, kayak and canoe rentals beckon. But I just used the available Maine state park pass to go to Reid and Popham beaches, each with their own distinctive character. Hope for a return engagement next summer, as there are other dwellings on the property to explore!

Great getaway in Georgetown
The loft was cosy and the river view was amazing, even better than what we expected. Katie was very nice and helpful. They even provide a pass to access Reid State park and Popham beach which was a nice bonus, we used it 4 times during our stay. As others have stated before, the water smells bad, but it's not that big a deal. They even provide a few gallons of bottled water to get you started. All in all we were satisfied and would recommend it.

Great location and wonderful setting
We've just returned home from our week in Georgetown at one of the lovely cottages in this peninsula. On our way up we received a surprise text from Katie letting us know the cottage was ready and we could check-in a little earlier if we had wanted to. When we did arrive the cottage was exactly as we had expected and the views were fantastic. On our first walk in the grounds we met Katie who was very welcoming, provided several suggestions for food, and asked to let her know if there was anything we needed.
We have 2 toy poodles and were really happy that they could come along for a reasonable fee (Some owners on here asked that we list them as 2 extra people!!! Seriously? They are like 30lbs combined and don't shed). They had a blast and the surrounding towns were always so welcoming of the dogs. Practically every shop has a water bowl out for them and that just made the trip so great. Everyone was friendly and very considerate of the dogs (Even the little children asked if they could pet them).
We went several times to the Five Islands Lobster Co to enjoy the amazing views, and sat out eating a variety of delicious food with the dogs. We would definitely recommend this to anyone staying. The staff are really nice and everyone is just having a good time.
Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to go back. The area is wonderful, cottage is an excellent price and well situated, and the food is simply delicious. Thank you Katie for hosting us and our boys.

Great view nice location ok accomodations
Up over a walkway over a roof to a storage room which you go thru to enter your space. The loft is good size with a kitchen/living area bedroom and tiny bathroom hard to sit straight forward on toilet because of how close sink unit is. Windows looking out to river are great. We were told an exhaust fan would help run the air thru the loft but it did not work. Internet was extremely finicky. Could not figure out how to get tv to work. Water "full of minerals" ( salt is a mineral) be sure to use bottled for drinking coffee brushing teeth. We used the loft for sleeping, bed was comfy, having breakfast, making lunches for our kayaking trips and it was fine late in evening to sit quietly and read some evenings did wish for a screened in outdoor space as weather was quite warm while we were there. All in all I think we got what we paid for.

Great spot for a cozy, serene vacation
The loft we stayed in, with its breathtaking views, made for a peaceful and relaxing vacation. The place was very comfortable and everything we needed was there for us to enjoy a cozy stay. Since the loft does not have a balcony or dock facing the water, there is ample space outside to sit and enjoy the fresh air.
Upon our arrival, we unloaded our belongings and drove back in town to get food. The few gallons of water provided to start us off were a nice addition.
The surrounding towns we took time to discover during our stay were little gems (Bath, Brunswick, Phippsburg, Bailey and Orr's islands, Harpswell, to name a few). Reid State Park and Popham Beach were great places to spend a lazy afternoon. Long stretches of sand and water, a bit too cool to swim but a very comfortable place to take in the sun, breeze and the sound of the waves while reading. Thanks to Sam and Ruth for providing a pass to the parks/beaches. It was well worth it!!
Although we had brought our bicycles, we did not get much use for them since the only trail we found was a short one in Brunswick. Even if the area is bike friendly, since we were not familiar with the area, we didn't venture out on the roads.
A day-trip to Portland, Maine was also quite enjoyable. Maine is THE place to have seafood and we enjoyed it every day of our stay. A great place to get fresh live or steamed lobster is a mere 20-minute drive away, at the Five Islands Lobster Co which we visited on a few occasions.
Overall, the Loft, with its great views, is a perfect place to stay if you want to explore and discover the surrounding areas.

The best vacation
This was the very first time for us in Maine and we decided to bring our dog (a pug) Tchad.
We looked for places where we were all going to be comfortable and drove from Montreal to the new adventure.
There are no words to explain the beauty of the location. It is as the name says it, "breathtaking".
The inside of the loft was exactly as indicated in the ad, but there are no pictures that could captured the views and the beauty of the place.
It is peaceful and yet nature is so alive!
We loved being so close to the beach.
Both Karen and Same were there and made us feel very comfortable. They are very good hosts.
We definitely recommend the place and it is a certainty that we will return a week is not enough time to enjoy everything that the peninsula has to offer.

A great place for boaters.
I can't say enough good things about the owners Sam & Ruth. The loft was clean & well maintained. Great views over looking Back River. Sam helped me launch and recover my boat. They let me store my boat after I left for Swans Island. Sam and Ruth had excellent knowledge of the local waters and the local area. Sam & Ruth are great people to deal with. Hope to visit them next year for another month.

Tranquil nest
The loft is truly a unique spot. The perfect location for a quiet place to relax, and a great base to explore Mid -Coast Maine. Ruth and Sam carved out a great place on the Back river, secluded yet close to everything.

A Cozy Honeymoon Week
My husband and I recently stayed here for our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for a better week! The lofty was cozy and quiet. The view is amazing. I loved getting up in the mornings and having a cup of coffee or wandering the grounds to take photos. We brought our kayaks and would explore the river where it was easy to spot seals and bald eagles and other water birds. Sam and Ruth were very helpful with anything we needed and suggestions for places to eat. Definitely a great place to get away from it all. Brunswick and Bath were also not too far away to go into town for visiting and eating. There is a great restaurant on the island called the Osprey that Sam suggested that we were fortunate enough to get to eat at on our first weekend before they closed for the season. Reid State Park on the island is also a beautiful spot to visit. A day trip up the coast is full of things to do and see. We also took the Maine Eastern Train and it was a fun beautiful afternoon trip.

Oh, we had such a lovely time!
We came for a week over Labor Day, and had a wonderful, relaxing, laid-back vacation that we both really needed. We had coffee or wine on the floating dock and just watched the tide turn, or went walking in the morning along the trails. There is a seal in the river, who comes up to watch, and eagles, a great blue heron and lots of ravens and crows and coyotes, all living right there. There were very few mosquitoes, just down in the marsh itself, and while there were some biting flies at Reid, the pass was also good for Popham Beach, which is only 20 minutes away, and that was perfect for a lazy beach day. We found that we went to Bath for our town needs rather than Georgetown (many closer food places including Five Islands close or limit hours after Labor Day, so Bath worked out much better). There is a cheap IGA for basics, and other places where you can get higher end goodies if you want. We really enjoyed the Bath Maritime Museum's river cruises--we got on the last wildlife cruise of the season, and saw lots of bald eagles, and then did one of the lighthouse cruises...and saw more eagles, seals, and even a sturgeon. We should have left more time for the museum, but we'll have to do that next time. Anyway--the property was very comfortable, clean and quiet. There is another guesthouse that seemed at first to be quite close from the front window--it turned out that we could hear them occasionally but it wasn't at all annoying. If you have a dog, there are two flights of stairs connected by a ramp every time they have to go out and the dog may have to learn to use the open stairs. One mild surprise is that I somehow thought there would be water down in the boathouse, but the water is out front--the boathouse is a repair and building area, but extremely well sound-insulated and quiet. There is lots of hot water for showers; the bed is comfortable. You will want spring water for ice cubes, cooking, drinking and brushing your teeth as the tap water is quite salty; Ruth and Sam start you out with a couple of gallons in the fridge. Get more at the IGA! And while you're there, go to the quirky old books shop, Remy's if you need anything mundane, the ice cream store, and get some ginger cardamom gelato to eat in the riverside park. Oh, and there really is only one dog beach during this time--it's right next to Fort Popham, not to be confused with Popham Beach. Double check anywhere you plan to take your dog--access varies widely. A great stay!

A perfect--and perfectly beautiful--spot
The Loft is cozy and comfortable, with a beautiful view out the huge livingroom window. In any direction, kayaking on the river was quiet and lovely. The nature trail provided a lively walk and I enjoyed contemplating the river from a granite bench placed carefully on a promontory. Just a few minutes in the car and we were in Bath. The restaurants are excellent, and the farmer's market a real treat. The botanic gardens in Boothbay are not too far away and are breathtaking--even in late August!

Bruce and I had a great weeklong stay in the apartment. We had ample space, used the kitchen, and sat outside some evenings in the gazebo. The location was excellent for exploring Maine.

Peaceful week in Georgetown
My husband and I spent the last week of June 2012 at The Loft. It is a small apartment above a working boathouse. The pros of this place are many: the hosts are lovely & hospitable people; the apartment is comfortable with a cozy living area and a compact but functional kitchen; the site is pretty and the location is great (near Boothbay Harbor, Bath, beautiful Reed State Park and stunning Popham Beach); a state park pass is included with the rental; and the view out the large picture windows is absolutely breathtaking. There are a couple of drawbacks: the bed sags in the middle (we improved this by putting one of the bed pillows between mattress and box spring); the well water is hard (hosts gave us some bottled drinking water -- plan to bring/buy extra); the water pressure in the shower is low; and the boathouse downstairs can be a bit noisy with occasional gas fumes wafting up. Despite these minor drawbacks, we had a great week here and would definitely recommend the place -- especially for the price, which is a total bargain for the region. Oh, if anyone in your party has an issue climbing stairs, this isn't a great choice for you. The owners also rent a few nice-looking small cabins in the same price range.

Picturesque Five Islands
For the long Memorial Day weekend, my husband, Ken, and I packed up our new Chevy Volt with food and gear, a Corgi and a Cockatiel and headed to mid-coast Maine to the island of Georgetown. The Plein Air Painters of Maine were painting Saturday at the Five Islands wharf. What a great excuse to get away to Maine for a long holiday weekend.
The small, charming fishing village, Five Islands, is known as “the prettiest harbor in Maine” and truly is a picturesque spot for painting, paddling or eating lobsters ‘ in the rough’. The village’s working wharf is used by the local lobstermen to sell their catch and bait their traps. In the distance, across Sheepscot Bay, the Hendricks Head Lighthouse can be seen. The scenery was exceptional for out-door painting. But typical Maine weather greeted me upon my early morning arrival at Five Island wharf: the air was thick with fog. A lovely gray palette was worked up for the occasion
We stayed four nights at Back River Bend in a converted sail loft perched at treetop level. The height afforded us panoramic views of the river and marshes as well as sounds of a boat yard. There, Ken, a radio fanatic, enjoyed tinkering with frequencies while I painted afar in the fields and on the wharfs of Georgetown.
We enjoyed our stay, very much.

The Loft
I had one of the best vacations I’ve had in YEARS! You have a lovely home and I’m sure it was a great place to raise your children. They are very fortunate to have grown up in such a beautiful, pristine place. I will go back to school next week telling my little kids that I saw not one, but TWO bald eagles in two days’ time! Up until this week, the highpoint of my summer had been catching a foul ball at Fenway on the 4th of July – but TWO EAGLES! THAT is certainly competition for the title!!! And, the view from The Loft is a true gem; waking up each morning to the view of the bend in the river – you just can’t put a price on that!

A Week at the Loft
My daughter and I picked this vacation spot to spend some time together, visit friends in Maine and get some much needed rest and relaxation. The Loft was more than we had hoped. The space was truly a sail loft transformed. The view from the expansive windows was beautiful. The Loft was fully equipped and spotless upon our arrival. Many of the items we needed to get our vacation going were already stocked for us. Sam and Ruth, the owners, were friendly and accommodating. The Loft is located close to many wonderful restaurants, a beautiful beach and the charming town of Bath. We definitely look forward to returning to the Loft in the future.

Backband River Cottages perfect!
The cottage was very cozy and comfortable. Nice, well stocked kitchen and the view from the screened in porch was fabulous. We stayed in one of the two bedroom cottages, the bedrooms were a nice size. The stairs to the bedrooms are a little steep (not good for kids that wander...) and the mattresses are a little on the old side. That was our only complaint. Ruth and Sam were very attentive and helpful and gracious. My cell phone did not work at the cottage (Virgin Mobile) but my husband's did (AT&T).
