I am extremely glad I chose this property for my weekend trip! The house was beautiful, much larger than I had anticipated, and clean. The kitchen was well stocked, and the views from the top of the house were breathtaking. My friends and I had a laugh about the “open concept” bathroom in the house, and I will definitely stay here again if I am ever in the area.

Great place to stay for family ski weekend
Great house, the kids loved the unique architecture. 20 minutes to Sugarbush base lodge. Close enough to town that you can run in and get groceries, but far enough away that you can enjoy the scenery and have some down time.

unique and lovely stay / great glutes workout on the stairs
We had a fabulous stay in this unique property. The master bedroom has a fantastic layout/view and the ground level was cozy and inviting. There were indeed *many* stairs but they all had grippy rubber liners so they felt safe even with our two young kids. Thanks for a great stay!

Perfect for getting away from noise.
If you are looking to get away from the noise and experience the calmness of the mountains, then this is your place.
We enjoyed every day of our stay and even the challenges of being in the mountains, and Susan is just fantastic, keeping you updated with great tips.

Beautiful views in Mad River Valley
This was a wonderfully unique home only a short drive away from many beautiful destinations in the Mad River Valley (and beyond!). From the architecture to the art on the walls, this is a one-of-a-kind destination. The hosts were helpful and communicative, and the home was clean. They accommodated our young children and dog graciously, and while the stairs made for a bit of a challenge, our traveling with gates made it such that this didn't hinder our stay in the least. We would definitely recommend this home to others.

Prickly House
The house was very interesting, with fairly easy access to Warren and rte 100 for touring; and for Blueberry Lake & trails for swimming/biking. The teenagers in our group made good use of Warren Falls to rediscover what mountain swimming means!
The layout of the house requires stairs either to use the bathroom/laundry, or to access any floor. The steps leading down into the house are pretty treacherous when wet, and anyone with any kind of mobility issues would find them difficult. The semi-spiral stairs to the 3rd floor also pose a unique challenge. The common furniture is serviceable but not excessive (two couches, a small chair, and dining seating for 7). The bedding and mattresses were superior to many we have encountered on trips, and opening the windows and hearing the sound of the owls at night was amazing. Kitchen tools are pretty basic, but encourages trips to Warren Store :-) The railings and some 'high-touch' parts of the house were not as clean as we expected, so some time was spent wiping. things down.
We travel with our dog and, although she doesn't usually get on furniture, we covered both couches with our own sheets, had 'her' beach towel on the rug, and kept her out of bedrooms. Unfortunately, because other travelers don't follow that courtesy, this housie will no longer be offered as pet-friendly. Wi-Fi is available, but it cut out late Thursday and was never accessible again. Not a big deal, but annoying. Also, I would not recommend this house for families with small children...the 1st floor windows are very low with minimal screening and a severe drop outside.
On a final note, we really enjoyed the house and the area. It was great for us. Sadly, there is an additional 'tiny' house being built right next to the small parking area for this one, and more construction beside that. The workers were quiet and very nice, but I can't imagine having 'neighbors' so close in the future if that is the owner's intention.

Lovely place!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Susan’s property. It’s in a gorgeous location, the house was very neat and clean. Our favorite was waking up to the big window in the master bedroom! Susan was very responsive and a great host! We would love to return!

Quiet place in the mountains
We visited this home with my husband and our 2 children aged 9 and 12. The house was cute and quirky. Susan was easily contacted and answered all of our questions and concerns in a timely manner. We loved the welcome bottle of wine left for us! It was a nice touch. The “magic meadows” just a short hike from the house had amazing views of the mountains. We love to come to VT for thepeacefulness of the mountains and that is what this home is. The view of the mountains off the third floor balcony is breathtaking and my husband and I sat there many mornings drinking our coffee. The large window in the master bedroom was great to wake up every morning. Prickly Pond is just a short walk and our kids and dog loved swimming there. We had a great time and will definitely be back again!

Never have I experienced such irrational and unethical people.
Upon arrival, there was note on the washer that it was broken. I texted the home owner (HUGE mistake. I should have gone directly through VRBO), but I assumed rational adults can work together to solve problems. Home owner told me to use the washer, that the spin cycle was loud bcs it was uneven. This worked for 3 loads; however, it then overflowed everywhere to the point that it leaked through the ceiling. My family spent a few hours cleaning up the mess with the home’s towels. My husband took a a look at washer and secured the loose hose with pliers as home owner said this could be part of problem. I then stopped using wash until I was asked to run a load to see if it worked. It did not and I immediately stopped the wash and had to manually empty wash. I had to leave wet towels and a soaked wool runner bcs it was pouring and therefore could not dry.
Upon departure, home owner forwards an email from her cleaning lady that there was a musty smell (wet towels, naturally). There was also complaint that there was dog hair everywhere. The place is dog friendly... a lab sheds. Any homeowner who rents to pet owners should expect dog hair. If you don’t like dog hair, than DON’T rent to dog owners OR better yet, specify that hypoallergenic dogs only.
To top it, home owner tried to charge me $350 additional, when in reality, she is the one who should be paying me for leaving me with a broken laundry machine and the time it took me to clean up.
Luckily VRBO has all the evidence needed to know whose ethics are on the wrong side.

Simply magical
Loved our stay! Communications with Susan very quick and to the point. Lots on relevant information in the binder at the house. House is as described, incredible views from top floors. Comfortable bedding. Nicely stacked kitchen. Surrounding area is trully incredible, do look up Prickly Mountaint architecture, it was definately a treat and some of the house are visible from the loop. Completely fell in love with Mad River valley. Thank you Susan for opening your house to us!

Lovely winter solstice getaway
We had a delightful time together in Susan’s cozy home, with enough space to spread out when needed but mostly hanging out together by the fire and sharing home-cooked meals around the dining room table. Susan was very communicative and had our comfort & needs covered, even when the forecast dipped into the single digits. We hope to return!

Homecoming
Beautiful mountain home
My classmates and I rented this home for Norwich’s Bicentennial Celebration. The sweeping views, combined with the perfect Vermont summer weather, made for a great backdrop for the weekend. Plenty of room, with a spacious dining and kitchen area, and a great deck area for enjoying plenty of stories and memories. Located close to the bottom of the Roxbury gap and near Sugarbush Resort, we were able to attend events on campus and at the Resort with ease. Susan was a wonderful host, and was very responsive and attentive during our stay. Would absolutely stay here again, and happily recommend it to families, skiers, and people who enjoy the outdoors and stepping away to unplug once in a while.

Great place for large families
This house offers lots of space and the views are simply amazing. The house was very clean and cozy. The decor was nice and the beds were comfortable with soft sheets and extra blankets for those cool Vermont nights. I especially loved the master bedroom with the panoramic window overlooking the mountains. It was so serene and quiet compared to our home in the city.
The owner responded patiently to all my questions. She was very kind and provided all the information we needed to make our stay enjoyable. I would definitely rent this property again and I would recommend it to others visiting this area of Vermont.
Kitchen was well equipped but could have used larger pots and maybe a griddle to make cooking for 7 people easier.
The only hiccup we encountered was that the dryer wasn’t working, forcing us to hang dry our clothes which took two days to dry this way. We wouldn’t have done any laundry if we had known the dryer was broken. I also wish I had brought more than one pair of jeans since I was forced to wear dress pants until my jeans were dry :-(

Great location, views and owner
This is a repeat rental for us, because the first experience was so great! Close enough to Sugarbush to be very convenient, but far enough away to enjoy the VT experience. Beautiful setting and great house. I would highly recommend it for a family or even two families. Plenty of room!

Beautiful Location and House. Enjoyed our stay.
Stayed here with my family and our 2 aunts through New Years eve. We really enjoyed Susan's home. A uniquely designed home (which we loved), beautiful views, clean and very comfortable living area especially when we had the wood stove going! There was plenty of space for all of us. There are 4 floors as mentioned (including a loft) so obviously there are 3 sets of stairs, though our 4 year old negotiated them with ease, so it wasn't an issue for us.
The location was about a 10 or so minute drive to the Sugarbush Lincoln Mt. access and about ~15 or so minutes to Waitsfield which had a fun outdoor ice rink and the new Lawson's Brewery if your into that.
Susan seemed very nice in all my interactions with her, she was communicative and responded quickly when I had a question. I would highly recommend her place and would definitely rent here again!

A Slice of Vermont History
Thank you Susan for being a genial hostess! Susan filled me in on the history of her home, which made our visit even better! We loved this quirky house! I will say the walkway to and from the house and the numerous stairs in the house might make elderly, or those with very young children think twice. For us, it was perfect! The views are amazing! Thank you again, Susan!

Fun House
Nice house with beautiful view. Some practical tips: The description said one room had 2 queen beds but it only has 1. To sleep 10 two are on the sleeper sofa in the living room. If you are arriving late be sure to bring a flashlight as the stairs from the drive to the house are dark. Pack light as getting large suitcases up to the third floor could be a challenge. Great experience with beautiful views even when lying on the bed!

Not lost in the Vermont Woods
The Prickly Mountain House was a perfect get away. This was our first stop on our tour of New England. The view from the master bedroom was spectacular. The trees were practically on fire from every direction, juxtaposed with the deep green conifers. Beds were comfy, but we didn't want to waste any daylight. The kitchen had everything we needed. This house is a perfect place for a large group. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rock stairs getting down to the house were beautiful, but took a bit of negotiation for us 65+ folks. We had the idea to form a "fire bucket brigade" and it worked really well. Also, the Fit to be Thai'd restaurant was awesome. The duck was over the top! Susan Randall was in touch and made sure that we were comfortable. Don't pass up this unique home!! Book it now!!

The house is beautiful but in need of upgrades. The private pond is a definite plus for children.
We enjoyed our stay.
Description is accurate, house is comfortable but simple upgrades are needed: dishes, glasses, cups, bowls, knives; less decrepit chairs at the dinner table, come to mind. Also, outside needs taken care of. For example, we had to cut overgrown plants so we could go up and down entrance stairs unencumbered.
Also, when renting make sure you clarify all policies --for example, regarding laundry--to avoid lengthy and unnecessary discussions with owner afterwards.

Spacious, cozy, clean, and comfortable.
My best friend, my dog, and I stayed over memorial weekend and loved it. The beds are very comfortable, the house and bedding are clean and new, good water pressure in the showers, and modern appliances in the kitchen. It's cozy but spacious, with enough beds for 4 couples (1 bed is in the loft that overlooks the master). And while there's no tv, we did not miss it. Check out Hyde Away restaurant for a nice dinner and Shepard's Pub for awesome pot pies.

Great location for skiing multiple ski areas--rent a 4wheel drive to be safe.
Quirky, delightful house. Could use heat on the middle floor and some things added to the kitchen (only had one saucepan, sleeps 10 but only had 5 butter knives, that kind of thing.) Some of the dining room furniture is a bit rickety. Water pressure/heat were great, but toilets could use an upgrade (didn't flush well.)
Did the property overview mention there is no tv? Not a huge deal as there is WIFI, but worth a mention if people are bringing young kids and DVDs. Speaking of kids, this house has a lot of wonky stairs and the railings are not up to code, so maybe not the safest for young children. (Ours are 13 and 10 and still got a stair safety lecture from dad.) ;)
Overall a memorable stay and a great week of spring skiing!

Great house for ski vacation
House was spacious and comfy for a few days of skiing at nearby Sugarbush for our group of 5. Host Susan was responsive to all queries. My only criticism is that the kitchen could use additional basic cooking supplies (had to buy a colander for pasta dinner night).

great ski house for 2 families with children
We visited the valley to plan our son's wedding in the area. The house is the perfect location for two families with children who want to ski at Sugarbush. The views are gorgeous and the house is spacious. Susan, the owner, could not have been more helpful or gracious, checking in to make sure we arrived safely and were comfortable. She extended our check out time, without us asking, and offered continued assistance with our wedding plans. I highly recommend this property.

Peaceful Mountain Getaway!
Our Host, Susan, was very responsive from the moment we booked, to the moment we departed. She was generous enough to give us a late check out on our last day there. I was also grateful for the additional amenities at the house including, tea, coffee, and lotion (I'm from Florida, and my skin was not ready for the winter cold). The house is super cozy, very welcoming, and the view from the massive windows are stunning!

Gorgeous property
We enjoyed a weekend at Susan's home during peak foliage season and it did not disappoint. Her home is spacious and the picture window in the master provided great views of the surrounding area upon waking. Susan was an excellent host- she was responsive, easy to reach with questions about the area, and had great suggestions for local hikes. We would definitely return in the future!
