It is a well built and generally well-maintained property, spoiled by being so close to NC 105, from which truck noise and truck fumes make it impossible to enjoy the outside facilities in the middle of the day.
The pillows need replacing as they are dirty and old.

This cabin had the most well appointed kitchen I’ve ever seen in a vacation rental. My kids have food allergies so we tend to cook on vacation and I was so blessed by the numerous baking pans, measuring cups/spoons, pots of every size, cutting boards, and tons of kitchen tools. There’s plenty of cutlery, dishes and enough gadgets for a coffee drinker. I thought I’d have to mix my cookies by hand but there was a handheld mixer to use! Such a great surprise. The kitchen dish towels were very water repellent (maybe the housekeeper needs to use less fabric softener) and really didn’t dry the dishes.
There was very little hand soap in the bathrooms considering we had nine people staying for a week. That’s just not the kind of thing I think to pack on vacation. We just barely had enough.
The housekeeper left an envelope asking for a tip, which irked me considering we paid a cleaning fee and the floors weren’t clean. They were free of debris but when we wiped up something we dropped on the kitchen floor the first night, the paper towel turned dark grey.
The driveway has a blind turn and the mirror at the road for it is very difficult to see. It was quite dangerous and nerve wracking each time we had to leave the cabin. The fire pit is lovely, AC in the cabin works really well, and it’s a nice place to stay but the road noise made sitting outside less relaxing.

We were extremely dissatisfied with the cabin.
- The description states it sleeps 9 guests, it does not, it sleeps 8. Sofa is not a sofa bed. One of our guests had to sleep on the couch.
-The cabin was dirty. All the glasses and plates were dirty. When we tried loading the dishwasher to clean the glassware the dishwasher fell out of the cabinetry.
-Went to use one of the extra towels and it was stained. I have pictures.
-The extra blankets smelled moldy as if they had not been washed in months.
-The worst part though was the roaches in the kitchen. We had to buy roach traps and lay them all around the kitchen. Horrible!
-The place is very outdated. Lost power in the kitchen on the second day we were there because we plugged in a toaster in an outlet we shouldn't have! The shower on the first floor was either scalding hot or cold. I mean these are not the conditions you keep a rental property in.
-The only positive thing I can write about the cabin is the view. The view is pretty.
Needless to stay we will NEVER stay here again and hope the management company/owner updates and exterminates the place.

After much debate on which place to stay, given the pictures and description, we thought this place looked the best. We were sadly mistaken. They wait until the period in which you won’t get your $$ back for you to fill out an additional lease agreement and emails that request the full names and ages of everyone in the party. Nothing makes you feel more on eggshells then signing your life away before staying somewhere.
Upon arrival, the place wasn’t clean— crumbs on the table and kitchen, deadbolt wasn’t working on the door, 2 cockroaches in the kitchen, and as we were bringing our items in, our elderly dog fell down the steep wooden stairs to the basement. A few bumps and bruises he ended up being okay, but it worried us with a toddler and 9 year old— we reached out to the property manager asking if they had a barrier or baby gate for safety purposes and they directed us to rent or purchase one. We purchased one and left it at the property out of good faith for anyone else traveling with little ones or fur babies. No soap to wash your hands, the bathroom smelt like urine (the shower curtain was saturated in stains), and when we went to go shower after a long day of travel, the shower was completely broken and the downstairs toilet wasn’t working. Apparently the cleaners flush old soap in the toilet. 7 people and only one working toilet— not ideal. It took them over 48 hours to fix it. No offer of a refund for our inconvenience. Worst place we’ve ever stayed.

I have never traveled and stayed somewhere for Thanksgiving, so this was really exciting for our family. I have always loved Grandfather mountain and Banner Elk, so this was the perfect place when we found it. The cabin is very cozy and comforting. There was plenty of space for all of us. Other than the food and a couple other minor things, we had everything we needed to prepare our Thanksgiving dinner. It was full of household items that you would need on a regular basis (pots/pans, Pyrex, silverware, dishes, coffee pots, etc). They were plenty of towels and washcloths. The hot tub came in handy a few nights. If you were to ask me for any constructive critique's, I would say that the kitchen lighting could be a little better. Unfortunately, the lights above the island kept going in and out and the cabin sits down a small driveway next to a house ( the neighbors were very quiet with the exception of their dogs but we didn’t care because we all have dogs). Other than that I have no complaints and would definitely stay again!

Our stay was good overall, the loudness of the highway from the house was noisier than we anticipated. We did have trouble with the lights staying on and with the AC circulating properly. The code did not work upon arrival (with 3 kids and 2 dogs at 9pm) and the second code given did not work either. The cabin company was very helpful and quick to solve the issue. It was not the cleanest property (a lot of stains on downstairs carpet) but it is pet friendly. Overall we had a good time and the view was pretty!

We had an amazing stay. The cabin is easy to find (the driveway is very steep so be prepared for snow with AWD/4Wd). There is ample parking available and check in was super easy. Communication with the host is fast and thorough. The cabin is very spacious and we really appreciated that there were sufficient furnishings as well with a table that can seat a large party, comfortable living area seating, night stands and lamps in all the bedrooms, etc. The kitchen is beautifully appointed with every pot, pan or small appliance you could need. Plenty of towels, cozy beds/bedding and full laundry room, too. We cooked lots of meals together, played games (there is a nice supply of games provided), and enjoyed the hot tub. The provided binder of local attractions and restaurants was also very handy. I would absolutely choose this property again for a return trip!

The location and property were amazing! The only downside was the driveway is scary to pull out of because it’s on a wooded corner. We loved our stay and property management was excellent. Would definitely stay here again.

It’s was a quick trip as we had tickets to Grandfather Glows and the kids (teenagers) wanted to come along. It was close enough to grandfather that we didn’t worry about leaving them behind during the event. They each had their own room always a plus. Everything worked like it should. Nobody ran out of hot water. The wifi ran all their gadgets and Xboxes without any lagging. I don’t know what else to say I knew it was an older house. There was a neighbor close by we never heard or saw so we tried to do them the same courtesy.

It was our very first Wood Cabin Experience and I want to say that the view from the cabin of the mountians was awesome. Proximity to nearby Banner Elk town for grocery, eateries & local stores was a very convient factor from this cabin. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to have a good safe time in a wood cabin in the mountains without being too secluded.

Location is outstanding, home is cool! Needs to ge maintained! A/C did not work, compressor does not function! Reported with no response. Refrigerator didn't work, replacement also was non functioning. Property and Location are amazing. Ive never had these issues with one of your properties before.

The cabin was clean and comfortable.
The noise from the road was a bit more than we expected when we booked it, but after reading some of the reviews we knew to expect it.
The views made up for it. Lots of hiking trails, getting into driveway from the direction of Boone was a little tricky but better from Banner Elk direction.
Would rent this cabin again.
Thank you for your hospitality!!

Banner Elk
Upon arriving to the house we noticed a lot of ground trash, We pulled vines off the house and picked up trash before the arrival of our main guest! The refrigerator went out and it took them three days & we lost tons of food but we eventually got a new one after replacements that did not worn but they were very gracious and giving us a food credit! House was somewhat dirty with dog hair on the furniture
And the house was located on top of a very busy highway… Jacuzzi looked dirty and cover doesn’t work plus Lots of trash on the ultra slick wood deck! House really needs to be deep clean but overall we had a good stay and the location is central to everything just felt the pictures over sold the property vs price ! It’s very charming and management responded quickly and over all fun town and decent house ! Thx
* outside of the house the land can’t be used it’s so steep and the one hammock was broken which was a bummer

Stayed in banner elk for my daughters wedding with my whole family
The house was very cute. However the furniture needs some work and the dishes were all chipped. I was disappointed in the stocking of the house. 2 rolls of toilet paper for a house that sleeps 8 is clearly insufficient. And many of the things such as lights and hair dryer did not work. The peppery was beautiful but do wish there would have been some forewarning about the road noise. The hot tub was fabulous. Overall our experience was nice but we would not rent that particular house again.

The property was as described
The property was described accurately. It was clean and had beautiful views. We enjoyed our stay. The road noise was a bit much, but that was disclosed in the ad. So I can't knock them for that. Great value for the location. We enjoyed the hot tub, the views, and its location to all the activities and restaurants we wanted to visit.

Cozy Cabin in a Great Location
My husband and I took our kids skiing for the first time. We really enjoyed the views and the hot tub. Everything was nice and clean and the location is perfect!

Wonderful get away
Our family had a blast staying at this cabin. It was very roomy and the hot tub was just what we needed after snowboarding all day. My only complaint would be the driveway. We did come with an AWD SUV so the incline wasn't the issue, it is the traffic coming around the corner while you are at the bottom of the incline. Other than that it was well worth the money.

Great Ladies Weekend!
Enjoyed this rental with a group of ladies escaping before the hustle bustle of the holiday season. Great location and amenities. The management company was quick to help with challenges, door lock batteries needed to be replaced, GFI needed to be reset and was located outside the home. Would definitely rent again!

Family Vacation
The house and location were exactly as described. The views were amazing and if there wasn’t any road noise, it would have been perfect. Our family had a wonderful time and enjoyed our stay. The only suggestion I would give is the lighting in the house is very dark and extra blankets in the closet had food on them. The location is perfect though. A little more attention to detail could be used.

Wonderful Experience
The location was in a great spot, short drive to the ski resorts, Grandfather mountain, and shopping. View was perfect from the balcony. Cabin was fully functional and slept 8 with no problem. I would definitely return..

Dirty, but kid-friendly house in the mountains
The pros:
-Kid-friendly: There aren't a lot of decorations down low, the stair railings are blocked off, and the downstairs has two bedrooms with two twin-sized beds in each.
-About 15-20 minute drive to everything, including Tweetsie Railroad, Valle Crucis, etc.
-The hot tub has great forest views. It's very fun in the cold weather.
-The sheets/towels were clean.
The cons:
-This house is not very clean. The kitchen drawers are dirty inside, the wood floors were spotted and dirty when we arrived, the walls are dirty. It needs a deep clean.
-There was a welcome book on a high shelf. When we found it, it said we'd get a fine for not putting sanitizer in the hot tub before each use and that the sanitizer would be in a "designated location." We looked for the sanitizer all over the house and couldn't find it. So we contacted the property management company, waited for their reply for two hours, and when they replied, they said the book was outdated, we didn't need to use sanitizer, and that the hot tub would be serviced when we left. An updated book/instructions would be nice.
-We stayed 8 nights and were provided 2 kitchen trash bags and 1 extra roll of toilet paper in each bathroom. This may be customary, but thought we'd be provided more for such a long stay.
-The water pressure is terrible. The shower comes out in a small stream, even when it's the only water appliance on in the house. It almost doesn't work at all if there is another water source on in the house.
-The clothes washer badly needs to be cleaned. It had a ring of black mildew and a bad smell.
-The kitchen is very disorganized and not well stocked. There are a lot of random pots and pans, but no 9x13 pan and only a couple measuring spoons/cups. Overall, it was hard to find anything because there were things in random places and nothing was organized.

The view was incredible. Trees surround the place. The hot tub was great after a long hikes Right size for a family of 6. The highway noise can be loud at times but the view is worth it. Best place if you like being surrounded by nature

Noisy Cabin
We stayed at this cabin in July. The good is that it there is a lot of things you can do and visit around the area. The cabin was ok, most of the review are spot on. It has a great view of grandfather mountain. The only issue is the road noise is terrible, you can hear it all the way in the cabin. Also there is a dog barking all the time. The jacuzzi was great. If your looking for a peaceful quiet cabin this is not it. If your looking for a cabin for the view and located to close proximity to a lot of things to do and willing to hear traffic at all time this one will work.

Sugar on the Rocks, Indeed
Our first property rental, Grandfather Getaway, did not occur due to a burst water pipe with no hope to have repaired within our rental time; however, the excellent staff @ Carolina Cabin Rentals secured an alternate location, Sugar on the Rocks, for us - a beautiful home with grand views, spacious living/sleeping areas, and a wonderful kitchen!! Special thanks to Tim @ Carolina Cabin Rentals for his multiple contacts and steady pace to secure our lodging in the High Country during the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games! We highly recommend your rental agency! See you in 2022! Best regards, Linda & Family
