Superb breakfast, highlight of the stay. The team also prepared us dinner one evening, which we discussed rough choice in the morning and they went out to buy on that theme in the day. Providing us with an excellent evening meal, served with great style with very fresh ingredients and good presentation.

A tad difficult to find. The directions were correct, but tricky to find the driveway even on the second attempt.

Alguns aspectos de limpeza (embaixo da cama tinha alguma poeira). Na segunda noite tivemos o azar de haver alguns cortes de energia (isto depois da hora do load shedding) e ficou difícil dormir a noite com calor.

A superb place to stay. Everything about Candlewood Lodge was just perfect. Great attention to detail- beautiful garden, sunny courtyard for breakfast, stylish and comfortable bedrooms. The host, Matthieu, and all the staff made us most welcome. Matthieu gave us lots of tips on where to go and what to do, including excellent restaurant recommendations. The breakfasts were 5*, by far the best we have encountered during our 3 week stay in South Africa, absolutely delicious. We wish we had planned to stay for longer!

Fantastic location with views over the lagoon. Room very comfortable. Breakfast excellent. The housekeeper Faith was a perfect hostess.

Everything was wonderful

Faith was an amazing host, we got the loveliest welcome and she went the extra mile to make our honeymoon feel special and helped organise activities for us to do during our stay. Decor is warm, modern and clean and our breakfasts felt like a feast! Brilliant views greeted us each morning when we opened our curtains and great location in a safe area.

Travelled during winter so maybe better central heating for room, though electric blankets were provided.

The breakfast was fine dining at its very best, the creativity that went into each morning's spread was a work of art and was the best we have ever experienced in all of our years of travelling. The location is a short car ride from the central area but is more than made up by the tranquil setting and beatiful gardens.

All the staff made this a very special stay! From our welcome on arrival, to the service and attention to detail at breakfast, everyone here made sure we were welcome and got the most out of out stay. The breakfast really is very special... so much choice and the cooked food is of a very high standard. Our room was spacious and clean, with a well-equipped kitchenette.

Slightly disappointed to have paid extra for a deluxe room that didn't have a view and didn't always feel very private because it was right next to the parking area. It looks like Booking.com has now been updated so that you can more precisely specify whether you'd like to be upstairs/downstairs etc, but this wasn't possible at the time of booking.

The breakfast was amazing, they go to sooo much effort, they really provide exceptional food, the chef should be in a restaurant she is that good 😊 We would stay here again in a heartbeat and nowhere in SA beats this place! Our favourite of the trip They also keep your mini bar topped up so perfect for those of us who like a drink 🤣

The better the place, the more difficult to put it in words. This stay is, easily, in our top 5 best stays ever. The concept of “attention to every single detail” takes a totally different meaning at Candlewood. So much, that this type of service we can only compared to the one you see in places like Japan. Mathias and Urs, together with all the beutiful ladies working at the guesthouse, make this place an incredible extraordinary experience. From the impeccable and absolutely DIVINE food, to the comfortably chic and clean rooms. We feel we need to dive into more details so you can really appreciate why we fell in love with this little piece of paradise. We arrived and were greeted by Mathias, the kindest soul in the entire Knysna. We were given a free upgrade and, oh! Wow! what a view from our room and our porch. Thank you Mathias! The bedroom and bathroom were impeccable, so so so clean, beautifully decorated, so spacious and comfortable. The bed, pillows and linen were a total luxury experience (so well ironed, perfect mattress, softest pillows!). A generous fruit plate, with chocolates, Amarula and a delicious freshly made ginger lemonade was brought to us while Mathias gave us great ideas in what to see and do around Knysna. He even made restaurant reservations on the spot and thanks to him, we ate at the most memorable and incredible restaurants in our entire month in South Africa…. amazing!!! We wouldn’t have known about those places if it wasn’t for Mathias guidance and knowledge of the area. Then, when you think this is already reached the top of the top, here comes THE breakfast experience.

Simply wonderful! The hospitality, the room, the view, there are many things that make Candlewood Lodge a special place. But there was one thing that really blew our mind, it‘s the breakfast. This was one of the best breakfasts we ever had. There were so many yummy options to chose from.
