Delightful character and very elegant - a beautiful island of history on the edge of Guimarães. Very easy walk to the centre of the old town.
Limited Internet

Was a great location with excellent parking
Constant barking of dogs on the property, even during the night. Lack of attention to detail. Kettle/coffee facility in room would be appreciated instead of having to go to the kitchen. The bathroom badly needs upgrading. Shower over bath was dangerous as no anti slip mat. Lack of breakfast items an issue, only 1 black tea bag. Cereal jar on table almost empty.
With a bit more care and attention could be so much better

Beautiful old house with lots of parking space and the most amazing gardens and ponds right in the town and a short walk to the historical old town centre

The location was great as was the parking ,10 minutes walk up a hill from the old town. A bit of an oasis with large space around the property in the middle of town. The host was very friendly
The property was very dated and basic which is fine but the shower and bathroom were poor - the bath started filling when the sink was emptied bringing in dirt to the bath. I do not know if it was a quirk of our room. A shame really because there was so much potential

Excellent location with on site parking and within walking distance to the centre to the restaurants and the oldtown.
Very clean and spacious room in a Manor house surrounded by a beautiful garden with some domestic birds as a swan and a peacock.
The lady of the house is very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was ok with a lot of choices to choose from, but we missed an egg (boiled or scrambled) with our breakfast.

Lovely breakfast in beautiful setting , overlooking pond with swans, ducks and peacocks! Large room and bed, good parking and within walking distance of Guimarães. Kitchen available to prepare evening meal, able to eat in dining room and large hypermercado within easy walk
Bathroom a bit dated but since you stay in a historic building, this is forgivable.

A chance to stay in a lovely, traditional old building and family home in a beautiful garden, with off-street parking. Close to the historic town centre, which is all in walking distance (uphill). As everywhere in Portugal we had a really warm welcome, with a good breakfast including fruit from the garden.

The house, location, and breakfast were all fantastic.

Continental breakfast was good. Great location for getting into the town centre. Free parking. An old historic building
Rooms were a little tired and could do with a revamp. The building was cold when the heating was off.

The rooms and the ground floor area we had access to had a great old world feel about them. The hotel also left us a nice bottle of Port to try. Loved this inside of the hotel, and although there was no no air conditioning the rooms were initially cool when we had the windows open, but, and it was a big but please see what we didn’t like.
Our initial arrival at the property was great, good car parking and really great old world interiors. Once we had settled into our rooms, we did notice some dogs barking and Cockerels crowing. This initially did not bother us, until we returned home. As I stated earlier the rooms do not have air conditioning but as long as the windows were open we had a nice cool breeze. But, the cockerels started crowing around 02.30-03.00 , followed by the dogs barking anytime from 04.30, this went on , off and on all night and sometimes during the day when we returned to get changed. Also the grounds around the buildings needed a little TLC.
Also please note all payments are in cash.
The noise from the dogs and cockerel, really spoiled a quirky but nice stay.

Manor House with many original features, lots of charm, large bedroom and use of sitting room with complimentary Port and coffee. owner’s family has lived in the house for many generations. Able to explore surrounding gardens, swans and ducks to watch during breakfast. short level walk to historic town centre.
some updating needed ie decorating, squeaky mattress, make sure you have contacted the owner to advise of time of arrival as she is not always at the property. some animal noises can be heard from time to time. cash only.

It was a lovely historic building with beautiful gardens. The host was very friendly, the breakfast good and our dog was very well accepted
We couldn't get internet in our room, we had to access from the common loungeroom.

Fenced in property off the street with a large, free parking area. Easy 10 min walk to the main center. Lovely, but a bit unkempt gardens and a pool with swans, ducks, and birds to watch from the breakfast room. Bed comfortable, room large. Very good, well presented breakfast. Saw only the owner and her husband who were friendly, but spoke limited English.
The owners had 2 large dogs ( kept outside)that barked a lot and were a bit intimidating. Neat historic building but a slight dank feel. Power went out one night, but was quickly restored. Water slow to drain from tub/shower. Payment required in cash.

The rooms are on the ground floor of a charming old Portuguese mansion surrounded by beautiful gardens and in walking distance from the historic town center. The lady of the house is lovely and provides a wonderful breakfast in the mornings.
The house has a bit of a musty smell which is probably down to the lack of adequate heating as well as the age of the building ...

Very welcoming and helpful staff. Breakfast was plentiful, tasty and beautifully presented. This felt like staying in a grand house or stately home.

A fantastic oasis in Guimaraes . I recomend it to anyone travelling to this area . A short walk to the historical area and the host was very informative of the history of the Casa and local places to visit

You are allowed to stay in a house full of history and charme, it is a bit of country life with animals and orange trees in walking distance to the centre of the town. Very good breakfast included.
I could have a nice hot shower in the evening, my husband wanted to have a shower in the morning, but the water was cold.
This historic building is surrounded by a regular town (streets, shopping center, IBIS hotel), so the environment is ok, but the house and garden is just awesome!

Breakfast was amazing and the property was really nice. We enjoyed the animals despite the swans being quite mean.
Feels a bit worn down. Heat was not sufficient for the room.

the location is nice.
pretty authentic place with a history.
the breakfast table was beautifully served
super pet friendly.
we like to drink coffee in the morning at the garden, lounge in the sun
It was a little chilly and damp, but it was electric heating at the room. I think it’s normal for the stone old building.

House was amazing, it could have been a museum. Thick stone walls, old wood furniture, a lot of tiny details that made the difference.
Location was really good, 8-10 minutes walk to the historical center.
Being late autumn, it was quite cold. We arrived at 9 PM from the city and there were 16 degrees in the room. We turned on the heater, but it took a while to get even remotely warm. I assume that in the summer it would be an opposite experience, with the cold stone walls keeping the summer heat out.
Weird smell from the bathroom.
Breakfast was on the light side.

Casa Dos Pombais cannot be compared to any other hotel. It is an old granite stone palace with a few spacy guest rooms in the ground floor and surrounded by a little park with fruit trees, roses, flowers, evergreen rare trees, a pond, several animals (swans, ducks, poultry, dogs and cats). The palace has an old-style living room (with WiFi) and breakfast saloon. The palace is owned by the same family for several generations and filled with many family belongings. All towels were carefully embroided with Casa Dos Pombais. The served breakfast was good.
Remember to call or mail in advance when you will arrive. Instead of annoying waiting after a non-announced arrival, you may simply park your car in the courtyard, leave a message with your name, and take the 10-minutes walk to the nice town centre until you can have your room. Good restaurants in the town centre and also one nearby (closed Mondays).
Be careful to close the window when you go to sleep in order to prevent disturbing noise from the animals during the very early morning.
Payment was in cash only.

Breakfast was fabulous - continental with everything you could wish for - Room was very big with antique furniture
so if you like the modern look this is not for you.. Location was great, like a farm house complete with swans and ducks etc in the middle of a built up area - but quiet at night apartment from the dogs barking on the odd occasion.
The shower could do with updating, however, this is an old property so you have to take that into account when booking. Bear in mind the owner only takes cash.

A wonderful house - almost a palace, with a delightful air of slightly faded grandeur; a beautiful garden with lots of marvellous ducks and swans! And Guimaraes - a hidden gem
Fresh orange juice for breakfast, and the electrics could use a bit of modernisation

A beautiful old house with beautiful garden with geese and swans.
Nobody was at the property when we came (10 am). There was no notice that guests have to call or write the property before arrival.
Wi-Fi reception can be bad depends on the room.
