Very atmospheric place, nice garden, spacious, comfortable and clean rooms, delicious breakfast. 2 min to the beach, literally 5 steps to Lulu dive center. Lovely and friendly dogs who greets you and are watching the place.
Highly recommended!
Thank you Simona&Mustafa!
And thank you to all the stuff, spacial thanks to Yussuf for nice chatting and showing us around.

I loved the central area, hammocks, and separate rooms and the feeling of being in a forest. Location, easy walk to restaurants, market and diving. My room was spacious and very traditional. Staff were able to arrange a taxi to my next destination. It felt very chilled and relaxed.
Unfortunately, as I was diving, I had to be up and out. I arrived at the meal area, and nothing was ready or set up. I had to wait 20 minutes, and consequently, once the food was served, I had to take it with me.

I liked old style. It felt like a home. I also loved its garden. If you request something from the staff, they are ready to help.
It would be better with a AC but it's already been stated before booking.

Casa Umoja was exactly as described, I recognized the place thanks to the pictures published. the breakfast was rich in fruits and eggs were kindly prepared every morning. we enjoyed a very spacious room with 2 large beds (160cm each ) , with very good mattresses, and each under a very useful fan. The room was also equipped with air conditioning.
We had a large terrace (table and two chairs) where we could sit for a while in the beautiful lush garden.

I really loved my stay at Casa Umoja. The owners are wonderful and the husband is Zanzibari himself. Between the couple they speak an abundance of languages. The breakfast is included and it’s amazing-An assortment of fruit, bread, tea, coffee, omelette and more. It’s a great way to start your day while looking at the layers of rugged leaves and smooth sand. Some things to note: there is not A/C. At first this was a small issue to me, but this is typical here in Zanzibar and much of the world. I adjusted. The hot water is not always on during the mid-day. In short, this is not an all inclusive resort with resort amenities, but it’s also 1/5 the price. The service is similar to a mid-luxury hotel! The owners organized so much for me and a staff member even walked me to the doctor and waited with me when I wasn’t feeling well! I mean really grade A service! So I would stay again and in fact I went back up to Nungwi to be at Casa Umoja! Totally recommend for a peaceful vacation!

Great location, Simona and Mustafa are wonderful people, who supported us with everything! Very calm atmosphere, like a small village, good family place indeed ! Good restaurants around as well.
Washrooms a bit old and probably require some maintenance and renovation. Breakfast good , maybe different options every day would be perfect, as it is the same. But staff is super friendly, and will accommodate all
your requests.

perfect location just two minutes’ walk from beach and short walk to lots of eating places; safe and quiet walled garden, perfect for relaxing
a bit tired and jaded so for same price our hotel in Stone Town seemed much better value with far more facilities and a pool; would have been nice to have been able to make tea or coffee when we wanted but didn’t appear to be possible

I really loved the relaxed and chilled vibe in casa Umoja. While Nungwe feels like a beach resort, casa Umoja gives you more of the travelling/escape it all feeling (though due to the central location you are bound to hear some of resorts' noise.
It is super close to the beach. Staff is really cool. There is enough space at the property to have your privacy if you want it, and at the same time, there is a central spot where it is easy to connect with other travellers. Oh, and it is lush and green, really beautiful. Breakfast is same same every day, a bit of everything and it is quite generous (comparing to other places in this price range).
There is a nice yoga shala at the property.
I was actually ok with all facilities, I think it matched the price range. If you want more fancy, freshly renovated place, be prepared to pay more

I fell absolutely in love with this beautiful garden paradise and cannot stop thinking about coming back. Casa Umoja feels like an oasis of tranquility in the midst of the busy Nungwi, while being located only a few meters from the beach. The palm trees, the sounds of birds, the hammocks. I loved my little bungalow, the bed was comfortable and the room was big enough. There is a large Yoga room, the whole hotel has a beautiful beachy/bamboo design, there is a grocery store for You to buy water and the place has a lovely community feel. Plus, they have 4 dogs (sweet adorable little angels), do I need to say more? <3 <3 <3 Cannot wait to see you soon!
Breakfast could have a bit more variety, but was delicious nevertheless and freshly made.

For me, this accommodation was more of an African home than a hotel, whereby "home" is meant in an absolutely positive way! There are bungalows and rooms, all different and furnished with attention to detail. The garden is a small jungle, colorful plants, relaxation areas everywhere, such as XXL hammocks and swings. The open meeting point in the main building invites you to joint encounters and long, interesting conversations. All the staff are friendly and helpful and Simona and Mustafa are the "soul" of Casa Umoja! I can hardly wait for my next vacation there, 1000% recommendation!
That my holidays there are to short 😉
Nothing was bad or negative

it was a lovely space, cool and nicely decorated. the rooms were nicely did shed and there were not of plants and open spaces. it was very quiet as it was not fully booked so it made it a peaceful retreat.
There is a building site just opposite it wasn’t very noisy but did block the quickest way to the beach. the rooms are very dark, great for sleep but not for reading or even getting dressed. the WiFi service wasn’t great but all the bars and restaurants have WiFi too.

The setting in the nice garden is lovely, it is not on the seafront as it says on booking.com, it's in the 3rd row of houses, but it is 2 min to the beach. There are 2 nice garden swings. It was also good to be able to use a bicycle to ride to the ATM which is rather far away.
But: it is rather neglected. The room wasn't swept when I came, but the bathroom was clean. The room was large but with 3 big beds there wasn't much free space. The veranda is nice, but: The veranda too wasn't clean and strangely enough, on 2 days, when I came back from the beach there were small leftovers of food on the veranda table. a bit of fish bones and a bit of cabbage, as if someone had eaten there while I was away. The Yoga platform - with a natural palm leaf roof and open air is really lovely to use, if it just was clean.. I didn't mind sweeping the floor of the dust that falls from the natural roof, but the bird droppings and other sticky stuff there need to be wahsed of, and this didn't seem to be done ever, not for weeks at least. Also, the staff left dirty plates and left overs up there - that's what the guy at breakfast told me, when I asked about it. They had forgotten to take it away. It was still there in the evening. Also the floor of the breakfast place just underneath the yoga platform hasn't been washed in weeks. So it was just a bit grubby. I have played less for better kept places. The staff is friendly but the young gays doing the breakfast mostly sit around and don't pick up garbage from the garden, don't clean. The main house seems to be kept in order well.

The spacious room, the private veranda at our bungalow. The beach is easily accessible and very close.
The pillows and there is no kettle in the room. It’s hard to find the place.

The owners are amazing, they are really welcoming and friendly!! The night when I was staying with them there was a full moon party ( the biggest party in the island happened every month), I decided that I’m not going but then I arrived to the place in the evening, hotel was full of friends, at first they asked me if I want them to be quiet and move the party far from my room, it was very nice of them. They invited me to stay with them. It was an amazing evening! Theirs friends were amazing the same as the owners! I had an amazing time! They are very respectful and polite, also extremely funny and crazy - in the very good meaning of this word! Definitely stay for another nights to spend more time with them 😊
If you are scared of an ants it’s not place for you, you can find a lot of them under the shower. The second thing is that my shower was broke, water was coming only to the wall
