not much to do

We only stayed one night at Hacienda Sassenberg but we loved it here. Heiko was very friendly and helpful. the kids loved all the animals and we loved the views. comfy beds and spacious room. We also had dinner onsite which was delicious (but not cheap, $20 for a main course with drinks). Excellent breakfast!

the pool was too cold for us to swim in...

My room had very poor internet connection for WiFi and no local telephone service.

The property is beautiful and the hosts are very friendly and helpful. Our cottage was impeccable and very comfy!

Great hosts, many animals and super horse riding

The place is in a beautiful spot and there is lots to do in the area, especially if you are into horses - the hacienda's speciality. The room is very large, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Coffee was a welcome touch. The bathroom... is enormous, possibly the largest bathroom I've ever been in. Top class shower too. Breakfast was excellent. It was at a shared table at a specified time with the hosts and other guests which is unusual and we didnt mind, but again, would have been nice to have told us in advance. The pool was great. Refreshing.

The welcome was a little rushed and very little information was forthcoming, after dropping the bags we went to the main house to ask questions, but there was a sign on the veranda saying no entry. Now, we did book this last minute so I feel the rushed intro was understandable, the host may have had plans. However I think more communication would have been great, and that sign.. a little unnecessary, especially if things (no go areas) are made clear at checkin. Buy supplies (bottled water, beer, snacks etc.) in advance of arrival, otherwise you will have to drive back down to the village to purchase them. A bottle of water on arrival would have been appreciated, given the location. The place is a bit of a rescue centre for dogs. There are at least 8 dogs in varying shapes and sizes and they have the run of the property. That's admirable but it wasn't advertised and it should have been. Nothing against dogs but if there is going to be 4 lying on your porch or two drinking water from the pool while you swim it would be good to give a heads up on this situation. Again: communication.
