Rien.

Based on earlier reviews, I was worried about the road leading to the finca. I needn’t have been - it has been regraded in the months preceding our arrival and was the smoothest gravel road we encountered anywhere in Costa Rica. At least for now.
As for the rest, we loved the balcony on the back of our cabin so much that on our second day we just hung out on it all afternoon watching the birds and wildlife. The sound of the stream below in the forest was wonderful at night.
We enjoyed the simplicity of just taking our breakfast and dinners in the covered outdoor dining area. The food was satisfying “home-style” cooking. Loved the various fresh fruit juices served with the meals. All the staff who interacted with us were welcoming and friendly and genuinely made us feel at home our entire three night stay.
Going on the cacao tour and doing the chocolate-making workshop really gave us a thorough appreciation for the full “tree to bar” process. The workshop is well worth the extra price. In addition to the education you end up with about a pound of chocolate.
The number of clearly identified parking spaces seems too small. Arriving back in the evening from visiting Tenorio, they were all full and it wasn’t clear what we should do. We ended up parking in a nearby grassy area and nobody complained, but we worried at first that we might get scolded for parking where we shouldn’t.

Tolle Anlage, tolle Unterkunft, richtig schöner Empfang.

Keine A/C.
Der Hot Tub ist toll!
Sonorischer dauernd wiederkehrender Ton... keine Ahnung was es ist/war. Wir hatten den Betreiber gefragt....

The whole place is so nice and authentic, the meals are always very typical and good (no menu, the cooks decide everyday's meals), the room is clean, surrounded by nature, the commun areas are beautiful, the hot tub is just wonderful - we had a very romantic moment there after sunset. The cacao plantations are gorgeous. The staff is very friendly and the Cacao Tour is so interesting. The whole experience feels like you're completely isolated from the world in a wonderful place.
The road to go to the farm is very difficult especially when it rains, but it's part of the charm of the place. The staff is very very friendly but speaks very limited english.

Owner and staff are attentive. Morning walk of the cacao plantation is very informative and educational. Very recommended to take the chocolate course (trainer's English not always clear, but we manage to make 1/2 kg chocolate per person to bring back home). Recommended to stay 2 nights, and walk around the property (there is a 2 hours walk in the plantation and forest where you can spot beautiful flora and fauna). Love the free chocolate drink at check-in. Fire place for night star watching is just priceless.
If you drive there from Tenorio (Rio Celeste) don't follow Google maps or the road sign for Finca La Amistad, as the road may require 4wd in bad weather. Prices for dinner are not that clear (seems it's an all in menu with drinks, but then the latters are counted separetly).

Wonderful
Bathroom are not very large although you have to take in mind that this is like a nice cottage into the jungle. This is my sole comment regarding the property, the rest of the accommodation is perfect.

Peaceful, beautiful landscape. Super clean and path well lit. Food and drinks were amazing. Staff was incredibly kind and friendly. My daughter has dairy allergies (among others) and they accommodated her menu, she ate well and loved the food and fruit.
I can’t think of anything.

Very beautiful wooden cabin which gave you the feeling of being in nature. The cacao farm location was beautiful with the possibility to do an hour hike on the property of the lodge. The ladies in the kitchen prepared a great breakfast and dinner with fresh and varying juices.
Nothing.

the cacao tour was made by the manager: clear and interesting. the small cabin was very nice and clean and we had a sloth for neighbor :). The chocolate is amazing! Staff was very friendly and helpful. we also made the chocolate workshop: the young but experimented animator helped us to make our own kilo of chocolate. One word to say: Go!

Bad internet, narrow timeframe opening hours in restaurant, for example 18h30-19h30 in evening

Really great stay. Hard working and friendly staff. The lodge was surrounded by nature so it was amazing hearing the nature sounds through the night. A walk through their farm & rain Forrest is a good way to spend a couple of hours, we managed to spot several wild animals. The lodge had insect screens and mosquito nets to protect from unwanted visitors.
The dinner wasn’t amazing value at $15pp so we visited a local restaurant (El mirador) on our second night.

An incredible place for resting, learning about cocoa and drinking and eating it.
The rooms are awesome with a lot of space, well equiped and quiet. All of them has a terrace with chairs and hammocks where rest and watch the beatiful environment.
The meals are very good, breakfast is gallo pinto and lunch and dinner is cooked on wood fire. We dinner there, because is a bit far from bars or restaurants, but worth it.
We did the cocoa tour in the morning and it was very interesting, because they harvest all they need to make the chocolate.
The staff is very helpful and kind, and offer you options to buy chocolate and deliver it whenever you need.

We loved the location of this hotel. You sleep at beautiful wooden cabins next to cacao trees, right into nature (we had a sloth in the tree behind our terrace). It's such a peaceful place with very friendly and helpfull staff.
There's a free cacao tour included and it's so interesting! Thank you Raquel!

Finca Amistad Cacao Lodge was simply amazing. The kids and I loved our experience making chocolate from scratch, learning about the whole process of growing and producing cocoa. I would strongly recommend doing the tour and making your own chocolate. We loved the wooden cabins in the finca- we really felt transported to another world. What made our stay even more special was the lovely staff whose passion for the place really comes through. They managed to share their knowledge so expertly and sucessfully created such a warm environment making our food from scratch, welcoming us with smiles and delicate attentions from the very start. The finca is ideally located, very close to El Rio Celeste which is one of the many gems Costa Rica has to offer. Special thanks to Angelica for being so warm and friendly, to Miguel for his patience and kindness, to Raquel, Julian and David for sharing their knowledge with us and to Simon for his help. A truly unforgettable experience!
We liked everything

I felt completely spoiled by the experience!! The staff at the farm were positive, friendly and went above to answer questions and provide support.
They provided a wonderful new year’s eve celebration with a band playing traditional music and serving traditional foods family style with an ambience of welcoming charm. The tour was extremely informative and the property hosted such a variety of vegetation that it is host to natural habitat for much wildlife such as sloths, toucans and macaws.
The individual cabins are perfectly manufactured and maintained with privacy and a beautiful veranda out front with a deck in the rear overlooking the jungle. Our back deck had a sloth snoozing in the trees.
I would highly recommend this property for anyone interested in a Costa Rican farm experience! The drive in is worth the experience!!
A fantastic taste of Costa Rica!!
Nothing. It was an amazing experience with a true welcoming of guests into the look at farm life and cacao manufacturing.

Even though most of them did not speak much english and our spanish was poor, they did everything to make us feel welcome. They greeted us with a hot or cold chocolate drink, chocolate, and caramelized cocoa beans. They guided us to our room. Breakfast was very filling and accompanied by chocolate drinks. We were lucky that for dinner they had a special Christmas meal for their workers which they shared with us. The tour was very interesting with more chocolate samples. They even gave us a chocolate bar upon departure.
There was no air conditioning. The area is very hot and humid, but there is a ceiling fan. Luckily we brought head lamps and flash lights because there are not a lot of lights at night. We had a 4x4 so we had no problem arriving there. Some of the roads in the area are difficult to navigate without a 4x4.

Finca Amistad is a MUST VISIT! The staff is very friendly and offered us hot chocolate/coffee upon our arrival. The cacao farm is really cool, and you can take a tour, make your own chocolate, etc. The rooms are ADORABLE. We visited for our honeymoon, and the staff were so sweet to us! Loved the hammock and forest views from our room!
We ate dinner and breakfast. Both delicious!
The road to get to the property is not great, but any car should be able to make it.
