My parents came to visit us for a couple of weeks here in Haiku and needed a spacious place to stay.
We were lucky enough to find Steve and Jette’s beautiful cabin tucked away in the Haiku forest.
To say the cabin and property is beautiful and peaceful is an understatement. Steve and Jette were also amazing hosts and it was easy to communicate with them whenever we needed.
If you are looking to find peace and tranquility then I suggest spending your time here, we will definitely be coming back.

This is a great place to "get away from it all". Very peaceful and secluded. It is a little piece of jungle paradise.
The hosts, Jette and Steve, are very nice people and very accomodating.
I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Property was beautiful with all the amenities you need for a great time. If you are considering staying here remember that you are in the jungle and you will are sharing it with the local critters. My group loved this but your mileage may vary.

The place is wonderfull just like in the pictures. From the entrance to the place, its all about the nature and surroundings. We wanted a week away from the city and we got what we wanted. Steve and Jette were amazing host, always there for what we need or would need. They are really caring from beginning to end.
Thank you Steve and Jette for that wonderfull week.

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect vacation…Maui Chalet was a huge factor! Remote but accessible and not far from the main road. We arrived with no planned itinerary but a few thoughts on what we might like to see. It was difficult to leave the lanai each day to journey out for the day’s adventure. Who wants to leave that breeze and tranquility? The home is well appointed. Kitchen was a good size. We did suggest a sealed bread box to store chips and such. The shower was great! And, the hot tub relaxing and enjoyable. We hope that someday the other jets will be replaced but it was still wonderful.
I haven’t slept as well in years as I did last week. The beds were comfortable, the large screened windows were open with that wonderful breeze and the night sounds of the “jungle” were just what was needed.
Our hosts were very quick to respond to our questions with great suggestions. We enjoyed meeting Jette and chatting for a bit. Her husband made and gifted us a beautiful hologram when we left. It’s very special!
We can’t say enough about how much the chalet enhanced and made our trip so special for three friends just needing to get away and disconnect (the wi-fi worked great…we did watch a couple of basketball games-lol!). We hope to return soon for another visit!

Such a wonderful chalet! The hosts Steve and Jetta were incredible and so friendly, they even offered to bring tea and starfruit for my son-in-law who was feeling a little under the weather one day. The home had everything we needed to cook amazing meals and it really felt like a tropical home in paradise. The hot tub was the perfect way to relax after a day at the beach, shopping, and whale watching. The property was very private and quiet, perfect place to recharge and re-center. I would 1000% recommend this for a quiet, off the beaten path, place to spend a vacation!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Maui Chalet. The accommodations were excellent, and gave us a comfortable place where we could see the sights on the island. Plus, time in the hot tub in a rainforest shouldn't be missed!
Also, Steve and Jette were great and giving hosts. If we needed anything at all, they were right there. We felt so welcomed by them, which just made our stay that much more enjoyable.
If you're staying in Maui, you can't beat staying at the Chalet. A beautiful house, great hosts, and surrounded by authentic Hawaii. Make your Hawaii experience that much more memorable by staying here.

I've stayed at this beautiful home for over a month and had a lovely time. You'll feel at home the moment you arrive when Steve and Jette welcome you personally and give you a tour of the house explaining everything you might need to know. Jette personally cleans the place in a very professional way. You can feel that a lot of love has been put into this home. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need for cooking while in the basement there's lots of beach gear we found very useful. Washer and dryer are also located there. I've stayed at many rental places over the years but the way I've been welcomed here has never happened before. Throughout our stay Steve and Jette checked in regularly if we needed anything which was very nice. If you want to spend some time living like a local this place is for you! It's very private and secluded. There's also a hot tub which is a lovely way to spend a night stargazing. What I loved most, was the yard, which Steve takes care of personally. You'll find yourself in your own private botanical garden. Thank you Steve and Jette for a wonderful vacation and I'll be in touch with you if I'm vacationing on Maui again! Take care and Mahalo for everything! You're wonderful people!

Staying at Steve and Jette’s chalet was absolutely amazing! Not only is the surrounding area stunning, but the house is beautiful and Steve and Jette are the most wonderful hosts! We loved staying here and did not want to leave when our vacation was over. Will definitely want to stay here again when we come back to visit.

We arrived late after flying in on our first night. Steve and Jetta were there to greet us and help us find the property. We were so glad they were close by to help us with everything we needed. They are the one of the kindest and coolest couples we have ever met. We loved our stay in the tropics for our honey moon and will definitely be back. Everything about the property is as described so no surprises. You are in the tropics so there will be some bugs and geckos in and around the property but they do not bother you. That is described in the listing. If you are looking for a less touristy feel stay here, you will not regret it! Waking up to the sounds of the birds and rustling palm tree leaves is an unforgettable experience.

We had an exceptional stay at the Maui Chalet. This property offered us everything and more. Our kids (3&5) loved exploring the property for lizards and birds. Jacuzzi mornings (in the sprinkling rain was my favorite) and star gazing at night made the perfect bookends to our days. We found the beds to be extremely comfortable and had great night’s sleep. Kitchen was nicely stocked and the house was immaculately clean. We liked staying on the north shore, good central location to Road to Hana, Haleakala, Mamas fish house & Paia, and Hoopikah beach where you can watch sea turtles rest on the sand. Only about an hour drive from Kaanapali & Lahaina. The hosts are lovely and so helpful throughout our stay. There when you need them, not when you don’t. Thank you for everything Steve and Jette! We made memories of a lifetime.

My whole family agreed this house was fabulous and we all want to come back! It is even more beautiful than the photos show. It is extremely clean. The kitchen is stocked nicely with everything we needed. The house is gorgeous and relaxing. Walking the grounds with Jette was one of the best experiences my wife had as she taught her all the rare treasures she is growing on the property. The proximity to Paia and the road to Hana were perfect for us. It’s on the fun side of Maui. Beautiful weather for 9 out of the 10 days we were there.
We hope to be back soon!

Steve and Jette were wonderful hosts! We spent a week in what my sons referred to as the "jungle house" and enjoyed it immensely. The house was quiet, clean and comfortable. We used it as a jumping off point for day trips. It's a few minutes away from Twin Falls, and if you're heading to Hana you'll have a head start over everyone else. We also, however, just enjoyed cooking on the grill and relaxing in the evenings. We'd book again.

This place totally made our vacation!
I am a high school science teacher and have been to Maui numerous times (we got married on Maui many moons ago). Usually, we would book a condo or some other resort location that had a kitchen (we like the option to cook our own meals if we don't feel like eating out). This time, I wanted the family to enjoy the island without so many people around; kind of like a trip back in time when it wasn't such a popular tourist destination. This place was exactly what I was looking for. A lot of privacy with no one around to run into. The property was huge, full of lush vegetation (including pineapples and coconuts). The owners were fantastic. Jette brought us some fresh tropical mangos, a variety we had never tasted before. Steve opened up his home to me and my daughter (they are on the adjacent lot) to teach us how to make holograms. I mean, how cool is that?! My youngest daughter absolutely loved the experience and made her own hologram. She also couldn't stop talking about how great the location was and how glad she was that we booked this place. The only downside was the mosquitos. My older daughter had gotten bitten numerous times; however, no one else in the house had gotten bitten (both girls were staying in the same room). We're assuming it was because she's one of those people whose biochemistry really attracts mosquitos. Even on hikes (not on the property) with mosquito repellant on, she was bitten. We were able to alleviate some of the problem by going to Walmart and buying a $30 bug zapper that we plugged in upstairs. It decreased the frequency of bites the next several nights, but she was still a target. We finally moved her to the downstairs bedroom on the last couple of nights, and that eliminated the issue. This isn't the fault of the owners, of course. This location is almost like a rainforest (which we loved), which meant mosquitos were part of the territory. Steve stocked the bathroom with insect repellant for us to use. He put screens up everywhere, even under the baseboards. They even corresponded with us multiple times before we finalized the booking to make sure we were aware of wildlife in the area and were okay with it. All in all, if you are looking for an experience that is closer to nature, this is the place. One final tip: Make sure to rent a vehicle that is AWD. We we offered an upgrade from the economy model I first selected, and that made it much easier to get to the property.

A special place in a magical rain forest
We really enjoyed our stay in Scandinavian chalet. Steve and Jette are fantastic hosts. The house is located in a magical rain forest. There are pineapples, Brazilian cherries and many other fruits and flowers growing in the garden. The singing of birds in the morning, the sound of rain, and smell of the flowers made it unique experience. The house itself is very well maintained and cozy. A really special place.

Just what we needed!
This was the perfect house to kick off our first-ever trip to Hawaii! The home is spacious and SO unique. We loved spending every morning sipping coffee or tea on the front porch, overlooking the beautiful tropical grounds maintained by the hosts. Speaking of which, the hosts have to be some of the friendliest people on the island! We loved our stay here!

Private and Beautiful Getaway
Driving down the road to the Chalet with the lush tropical surroundings and then turning onto the property with its meticulously landscape gardens set the mood for a very relaxed stay. Each day when we returned from our adventures the chalet was a relaxing and quiet oasis. Steve and Jette were wonderful hosts and very attentive. We really enjoyed our time at the Chalet.

The property description was dead on and we were even more surprised with it's serene beauty after we arrived. Steve and Jette were excellent hosts; answering any questions we had and also allowing us our privacy. The peaceful location allowed for excellent conversation, beautiful home cooked meals and day trips to incredible Maui beaches. Don't miss out on exploring the up country portions of East Maui; small towns with relaxed, "local" feel. A beauty I haven't found on other Hawaii islands. Other musts: day ferry to/from Lanai with the added bonus of active whales this time of year and the sunrise/sunset drive to Mt. Haleakula. The National Park has wonderfully maintained roads; didn't prevent me from white knuckle driving but it was worth it!

The location was very secluded and gave an authentic Hawaiian experience, allowing us to live like the locals. The land was beautiful and well maintained. The owners were helpful and responsive. However, be prepared to be in the tropical rainforest without the most updated amenities. It was a unique experience being there. Overall it was okay.

Loved staying here! Super lush and the house feels like Tarzans tree house! Easy access to Hana and the high country. Hot tub was great. Only thing to consider was that the wild roosters tended to wake us up around 5am, but what are you gonna do they’re wild after all. Loved our experience, would absolutely recommend!

After flying into Maui in the late afternoon and driving in rain, we arrived at Maui Chalet shrouded in darkness and woke up the next morning feeling like in paradise. This secluded property is a nature retreat right off Hana Highway, a 20-minute drive to the layback surfer town of Paia. It contains a one-plus-acre rainforest garden full of tropical fruit and spice trees and gorgeous flowers, birds and wild creatures (mostly geckos and lizards). The owners Steve and Jette are warm and generous people who welcomed us at check-in and looked after our needs during our stay. Jette even offered us tropical fruits and made me a beautiful bouquet for my birthday. On its own, this chalet is unique in Maui as it is constructed of Arctic pine imported from Finland. Using it as a base, my family explored the Road to Hana including its numerous waterfalls and black sandy beaches of Hana, the vibrant food scene of Haiku, the surfing culture of Paia, Upcountry Maui, Haleakala National Park, the nerve-wracking Highways 340 (only for the very experienced drivers on a sunny day), the historical town of Lahaina, and countless beaches on the island. Even on a rainy day, we found it relaxing to just stay in, breathe the clean air, cook, read, or surf the Web ( yes, there is good WiFi). If you want to experience the true Maui off the beaten path, Maui Chalet is the perfect spot for you.

We stayed in Maui chalet for 6 nights. The place was well presented and we found everything we needed. Steve was helpful yet respected our privacy. It is not in the most convenient location - about 15-20 minutes drive from the nearest town, Paia, where you can find a grocery store and a few restaurants, but you will enjoy the beautiful peaceful and close-to-nature secluded setting if that’s what you are looking for in your vacation. The only gripe we have is there’s no bathroom upstairs where the master bedroom is.

Gorgeous lush retreat in rain forest
The pictures can not catch the serenity of this beautiful cosy house in a lush garden scenery. Pineapples and the most beautiful flowers grow here, surrounding a simply wonderful Jacuzzi. The house in this true tropical rainforest setting was wonderfully airy. It was a calm retreat and perfect for our family. The hosts were very kind and helpful. We enjoyed the great movie nights in the cosyness of the house. We would love to be back. What an amazing place!

Great House to Relax and Enjoy the North Shore of Maui!
My wife, daughter, daughter's fiance and I recently spent 10 days at the Maui Chalet and loved it! The grounds are gorgeous (like a botanical garden) and the house is comfortable and well-equipped. We particularly enjoyed the hot tub which is filled with rain water and has no chemicals at all. We also made good use of the kitchen to prepare a number of our meals as it is a roughly 20 minute drive to the nearest town with restaurants. There is snorkeling equipment at the house which we also used. If you just want a hotel room with a beach nearby, this is probably not the place for you, but as a base for our whale watching, snorkeling and other Maui adventures it was perfect!

Secluded, but a bit disappointing
I booked this property based on the website description, reviews and the fact that I wanted a location with privacy, as opposed to a resort hotel. The highlights were certainly how welcoming and accommodating Jette and Steve are as hosts, as well as the privacy and seclusion of the location.
There were also some lowlights - I must say that when I arrived, I was quite surprised that the house had a pervasive musty/stale smell that was a bit unpleasant and persisted. The other issue for me was that as a solo female traveler, I found that I did not feel entirely safe in the property location , given that it is somewhat isolated in the jungle and some of the neighboring properties are a bit sketchy.
As others have observed, it is definitely off the beaten path and quite a unique setting! The jungle is vibrant and teeming with a wide variety of tropical plants and birds. It's a bit of drive to the beaches, but Steve and Jette provided valuable advice on beaches, restaurants in Paia and parking. I would recommend it as retreat for couples or families, but it's not quite what I was expecting.

Perfectly Appointed, Off the Beaten Path
Steve and Jette are wonderful hosts of this perfectly appointed home outside Paia. They have thought of everything you may need to make your stay comfortable. Here are a few highlights of the house:
-The beds are very comfortable
-The layout of the house is open and spacious
-The house is well appointed but not cluttered
-The hot tub is a dream - no chlorine!
-The surrounding gardens are verdant and well tended
I can't recommend this house enough if you want to see a more authentic side of Maui away from the resorts and condos. My only qualification would be for families with small children or if you are a weaker swimmer - we found the beaches on the north shore less hospitable than the more mellow beaches in south or west Maui, so be prepared to drive a bit for more appropriate beaches. That said, we were very happy to return to this house in the evenings after a day of exploring, hiking, or in the water. My family looks forward to returning to this house for years to come.

The perfect place in paradise!
We could not have been happier with our choice to stay at this chalet for our honeymoon! The backyard view and hot tub are amazing, the amenities are comfortable and Steve and Jette are the perfect hosts. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. We highly recommend staying here and will definitely return on our next trip to Maui!

Off-The-Grid
We stayed in Kihei our first couple of days on the island then switched over to Maui Chalet the last 4 days. It was incredible and a nice change from the city. Very secluded and the hosts - Steve and Jette were extremely accommodating. We had everything we needed and more. Cell phone use was very limited to certain areas of the house but that was also a good thing. More time to relax.
